I recently moved to Albuquerque from Ohio and I am not in favor of my rheumatologist, nut have been nervous to look for another. I know i need to advocate for myself. Thanks for everything you share. It is helping me have more courage.
Hi Elaine! As someone who has had esophagus problems for years due to scleroderma just diagnosed, consider this: the test is a breeze,I've had it more than a few times and you will probably be heavily sedated. But here's what I always consider: do the benefits out weigh the risks? Because any medical procedure has risks! But... bleeding from somewhere in your gut is also risky! You mentioned that your anemia was better? So is this the optimal time to do this test or do you do it later if you begin to be anemic again? This is a question for you and your Doctor. In my case sometimes I think my doctor is more concerned about what looks good on paper than what may be best for me! Doctors always worry in this day and age about litigation. But you said you like and trust this lady so maybe you should ask her if this is the best time to do this. Then, go with your gut( ha ha!) As an R.N. of many years I think sometimes people are afraid to question
Trust your gut (hee, hee)…that wasn’t lost on me. Thank you for the very good insights! And your insights were spot on. My doctor said since everything has been stable for a year, it doesn’t need to be done at this time. If my iron levels and hemoglobin drop again, then we will have to go forward. I also learned much more about the about the capsule endoscopy (smart pill) and learned it’s smaller than Cellcept so I feel a bit more confident should I need to go forward. I truly appreciate your insights and comment! Sending you extra spoons! Hugs! ❤️
Hi - I hope everything went well for you at the gastro if you already went. If not yet, I am sending you supportive thoughts. I am next, actually: I have recurring nighttime GERD, and so... yeah. If it helps, I kind of feel like swallowing a pill should be less distressing than a colonoscopy, or maybe less invasive? i would be very interested in what you have to say if you do end up getting it done. I hope your gastro will be kind, understanding, and in a good mood. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I unfortunately get your medical anxiety issues: because I met so many internists and rhumatologists who said I was healthy before my current internist actually diagnosed my Lupus, I can barely find myself trusting the professionals that see me. Honestly, I live in Canada, and many of my doctors tell me that they do not know anything about Lupus, and I am often *thrown* on all sides, with many doctors saying that the other doctors make mistakes on their diagnoses with me. Result: I am nervous every single time I have to get a test done, or see a doctor, new or not. Treat yourself to something fun or good the day before, and be kind to yourself. As sick people, our struggles are on another level, and we often need a little extra something to heal our bruised little hearts. Wishing you luck, and as usual, sending you my extra spoons!
Thank you so much for your well wishes and thoughtful comment. It went well and my doctor was so kind. I’m sorry you feel that anxiety too. It’s so hard to forget past medical trauma even when finding a good doctor. I love your idea of getting a reward. I totally subscribe to that theory as well. I hope you are blessed with a little extra energy today. Hugs! ❤️
