Did American cities stopped growing after the year 1940? This looks so small, maybe 15-20.000 people tops.
@tsnovak20 American cities grew after 1940, but mostly as suburban sprawl. Durham and Raleigh specifically didn't see massive growth until the 70s and 80s, so their urban cores remain quite small.
Durham may not have much of a skyline but it has pretty reasonable street level density for its size.
