As a professional 3D artist I recommend looking into creating an ID map for your 3D renders. That will make selecting your objects in photoshop way easier, faster and cleaner.
Basically just apply a flat color shader to each group of objects. Then render that out and use that to make your selections in photoshop.

@@Nicomedia1 it doesn't have to be an EXR. You can just save it out as a jpg or whatever. An ID layer should take to no more than 5 to 10 seconds to render out.

i was wondering for a while that when we photobash too much will the art still be considered as a paint ?
Doesn’t matter what it’s considered tbh. If it looks great at the end and solves a visual problem, then that’s great! :)
it is just labeling but what you preferring is probably photo composite which doesn't have many manually painted elements but rather retouches and blend photos together.
In a working environment where you are required to come up with artworks fast (or at decent speed), they only care about the final product, not how you get there. If it's an artistic integrity/moral thing, then idk, it's up to you. It still requires basic composition/design skills by the end of the day.
As an artist from a traditional art background, I see where you're coming from. But once I started creating concept art, I found I just do not have the time to get the level of detail needed by painting alone. Most projects I work on require several working images and there is nothing worse than spending forever on them to get half thrown out.

Is there a way to paint over a "graybox" untextured 3D environment that only have shapes and lightning on them? What kind of brush/layer modes to use and how can we add texture and environment to the image and make it look like a digital painted one?

I prefer art of traditional and digital concept of painted form with artistic techniques, I feel that doing it this way is like scamming myself and others, I also don't deny this because I know it's the future, but I feel like everything I've studied is going to shit, no skills.
