I love Chris Simms. I usually never let the media or anyone sway my perception about anyone or anything without doing my own research first. But all I ever heard was listen to this take by Sims and everything I heard was negative and I stayed away from his material. A couple of months ago I saw him and someone else do a special about the WR's in this draft. I was blown away by Simm's football IQ. And I saw what the deal was. He goes against the narrative and that's why he gets all the hate. I love him looking at players through a different lens. He misses sometimes but everyone does. There isn't a GM out there that's ever been perfect. I absolutely love the way he analyzes players. I don't always agree but he certainly brings up some compelling points on why he thinks this or that player will be a stud, average, or a bust
Did he say no one he's talked to has MHJ as the #1 WR? That seems so unlikely it makes it hard to take anything he says as serious but hey as we know Simms is know to be wrong around draft time.

His athleticism isn’t good enough to run in the NFL so he will have to adapt his game. He choked under pressure in college with 4.8 yards per attempt and 48% completion rate. This is a huge red flag. I think you can scheme around an anxious QB but never overcome it completely and it caps his potential. I think at best, Maye can become a good but not great QB that will be limited by how good the talent around him is. A 10-20 ranked QB in the NFL at best. McCarthy has a cannon and can fit it into tight windows at every level. His athleticism is excellent with an elite 3 cone. He excels in pressure situations with essentially no drop in YPA and a 63% completion rate. He showed up consistently in big spots (3rd and long) and in big games. He seems to have that rare IT factor that seems to be an integral part of every elite NFL QB ever. Just a better NFL prospect with a higher floor and a higher ceiling.

The proposed Patriots trad would be complete disaster if thy missed out on one of the top 4 QBs, and their choice of 3/4. the 24 1st would likely be in the teens or later, and the Patriots would likely end up around ten in 2024, so they never come out of th trade and the opportunity with an elite talent.
I don’t think Penix is any worse than Maye as a prospect. In fact, he might be better for the Patriots since he could start right away. So, I don’t believe it would be awful if they missed on Maye.
A QB needy team passing on a QB at 3 just to pick one at 11 just seems so odd to me. Doesn't mean it won't happen, and every draft is different, just feels like you'd just take your highest graded QB at 3 and not gamble.
Patriots need a lot of help. If they have McCarthy, Maye, and Penix ranked similarly on their board, it makes sense to trade 3 for 11, 23, and a future pick. They draft a similar QB on their board at 11 and get another first round talent to address a weakness. It only makes no sense if they value one guy significantly more, like the Vikings do with McCarthy in this mock. In that case, they take their guy at 3.

Even the best contested catch WRs in the NFL are only around 50% consistently. NFL CBs are longer and faster than in college and that athleticism combined with the NFL defensive schemes make separation more difficult. WR in college making a lot of contested catches can be a red flag. Do they have enough agility and quickness to run the whole route tree and create separation or are they a vertical guy with a limited tree that is only useful as a jump ball / red zone threat? Odunze lacks agility and lateral quickness. The best WRs in the NFL create separation in their routes and can still win the contested catches when necessary.
I think the upper body KOC was referring to was Michael Penix, though I thought that the change he made at his Pro Day was positive and he was accurate on his shorter throws that he struggled with before. KOC wants to draft Maye he thinks he can fix his mechanics.
I’m hopeful that we somehow end up with McCarthy instead of Maye as I think he has a higher floor and a higher ceiling. I won’t be mad if the Vikings end up with Maye but think he is a much riskier NFL prospect.

Lots of teams will take best available player regardless of if it is a 'need'. Also, what team isn't looking for a lockdown corner? And, if they stand at 22 hoping that a guy falls to them because of positional needs, they also have to assume no other team looking for a CB is going to trade in front of them.

I think Maye has similar value to Penix and more than Nix as a prospect. But it really depends on whether a team is okay drafting a guy that should redshirt. Also, the scheme and coach preference matter. All three guys have red flags but it wouldn’t surprise me if the order was shuffled. It also wouldn’t surprise me if someone looked at Maye and fooled themself into believing he is Josh Allen. I’ll be okay if the Vikings end up drafting Maye at 11 or a slight trade up but wouldn’t be thrilled if they traded up to 3, like in this mock, and chose him instead of McCarthy. I think that would end up being a costly mistake.

Cowboys have safeties. I think Cowboys need another pass rusher. I think they messed up not moving Micah to Mike on early downs. Plus Micah rushes from the middle as good as he does from the outside. Zimmerman will figure that out the way he attacks A gaps with his LBs. Cowboys were so thin at LB they needed to move him around. Micah 5th year option was listed at D end at $21,000,000. LB was $23,000,000 so they saved $2 million. I just don’t understand how LBs price is more than DE. Unless 3-4 OLB drive up LB prices. I don’t know if they do the option the same as franchise tag. I think I’m pretty good with these QBs & RBs. The way college has changed so much Shaduer Sanders is the only one I say will translate best for NFL in 2025. Celeb has the tools. I like Jayden Daniels. Him and Burrow are similar cause they have elite receivers. Burrow had 2 all time WRs. Burrow is playing with one in the league. Jefferson was slept on a bit but I’d give the edge in the league cause he’s had a good QB but not Joe Burrow. Nabers & the other guy that’s rated high as the other group. Nabers would have been a RB 15-20 years ago. He’s blazing fast and turns into a RB after he catches the ball. I like him most from the duo. Getting back to Jayden he didn’t miss those guys and had the arm to hit them deep down the field. They lost 2 games cause of no defense and they lost to (2) lost teams and 1 playoff team. Jayden is going to be a player. He’s thin but doesn’t matter as much as back in the day with the rules. Plus Jayden can fuckin run!
Unless Cowboys go O line in the 1st they have to go O line in 2nd I wouldn’t like it but if someone fell that was worth it I’d want fresh legs at RB. They can get a damn good receiver like the McConkey in the 3rd maybe. He’s a day one starter for me. They need something besides Lamb. #9 the returner needs to be used more but not in situations where’s he’s only doing trick plays. Turpin I’m talking about. And don’t sleep on Tolbert. McCarthy is a 2nd/3rd rounder. And Penix is more of a 3rd/4th rounder. McCarthy will have some success due to the receivers they have and the head coach being the OC, but nowhere near warranting a 1st round selection.

With the Colts, Ballard saying they need to protect AR could still fit with Bowers, given his blocking capabilities and the way that TEs can be a safety valve for a QB
The Steelers aren't going to draft a guy that is strictly a left tackle..... They want to move Jones to his natural left tackle position. If they draft a tackle at 20 it is going to be a guy who can play either side, preferably with more experience on the right.

If Odunze is there the Bears need to take him at nine. They are so weak after the top two and Allen misses a third of the games over the last two seasons. Also they only have him for one more year without an extension (and DJ only two more). The Bears will not get a chance to draft this high for a long time if all goes well. If they are draft Latu (who I personally think is the best edge in this draft) they can move down to get him. This would be a horrible pick.

According to their conversations it doesn’t seem the front office is very high on Guyton. He’s not ready to start at LT. I think they’ll trade back if Barton, JPJ or any of the other first round tackles aren’t available. I’d love Dejean but letting Tyron go put us in a position where we have to draft by need rather than BPA which is always a recipe for disaster.
I think drafting a QB that high after paying Jones will be a tough sell to ownership. I wouldn’t want to be the GM explaining this decision as it could result in walking papers. I think the FO is tied to Jones, for better or worse, and will try to get him some help.

No way do they let either one fall that far and not pull the trigger. Fashanu does not fit Arthur Smith’s run heavy scheme and they want to move Jones back to left tackle. 💯 they’d move up if Odunze falls outside top 10 and zero chance they let Fuaga go one spot ahead of them! The proposed Patriots trad would be complete disaster if thy missed out on one of the top 4 QBs, and their choice of 3/4. the 24 1st would likely be in the teens or later, and the Patriots would likely end up around ten in 2024, so they never come out of th trade and the opportunity with an elite talent.
I don’t think Penix is any worse than Maye as a prospect. In fact, he might be better for the Patriots since he could start right away. So, I don’t believe it would be awful if they missed on Maye.

Patriots need a lot of help. If they have McCarthy, Maye, and Penix ranked similarly on their board, it makes sense to trade 3 for 11, 23, and a future pick. They draft a similar QB on their board at 11 and get another first round talent to address a weakness.
It only makes no sense if they value one guy significantly more, like the Vikings do with McCarthy in this mock. In that case, they take their guy at 3.

Just my opinion Odunze is the best receiver in this draft on making contested catches when well covered.
Even the best contested catch WRs in the NFL are only around 50% consistently. NFL CBs are longer and faster than in college and that athleticism combined with the NFL defensive schemes make separation more difficult. WR in college making a lot of contested catches can be a red flag. Do they have enough agility and quickness to run the whole route tree and create separation or are they a vertical guy with a limited tree that is only useful as a jump ball / red zone threat?
Odunze lacks agility and lateral quickness. The best WRs in the NFL create separation in their routes and can still win the contested catches when necessary.
How about as an overall WR prospect?

I think the upper body KOC was referring to was Michael Penix, though I thought that the change he made at his Pro Day was positive and he was accurate on his shorter throws that he struggled with before. KOC wants to draft Maye he thinks he can fix his mechanics.
I’m hopeful that we somehow end up with McCarthy instead of Maye as I think he has a higher floor and a higher ceiling. I won’t be mad if the Vikings end up with Maye but think he is a much riskier NFL prospect.

And, if they stand at 22 hoping that a guy falls to them because of positional needs, they also have to assume no other team looking for a CB is going to trade in front of them.

I think Maye has similar value to Penix and more than Nix as a prospect. But it really depends on whether a team is okay drafting a guy that should redshirt. Also, the scheme and coach preference matter. All three guys have red flags but it wouldn’t surprise me if the order was shuffled. It also wouldn’t surprise me if someone looked at Maye and fooled themself into believing he is Josh Allen. I’ll be okay if the Vikings end up drafting Maye at 11 or a slight trade up but wouldn’t be thrilled if they traded up to 3, like in this mock, and chose him instead of McCarthy. I think that would end up being a costly mistake.

Cowboys have safeties. I think Cowboys need another pass rusher. I think they messed up not moving Micah to Mike on early downs. Plus Micah rushes from the middle as good as he does from the outside. Zimmerman will figure that out the way he attacks A gaps with his LBs. Cowboys were so thin at LB they needed to move him around. Micah 5th year option was listed at D end at $21,000,000. LB was $23,000,000 so they saved $2 million. I just don’t understand how LBs price is more than DE. Unless 3-4 OLB drive up LB prices. I don’t know if they do the option the same as franchise tag. I think I’m pretty good with these QBs & RBs. The way college has changed so much Shaduer Sanders is the only one I say will translate best for NFL in 2025. Celeb has the tools. I like Jayden Daniels. Him and Burrow are similar cause they have elite receivers. Burrow had 2 all time WRs. Burrow is playing with one in the league. Jefferson was slept on a bit but I’d give the edge in the league cause he’s had a good QB but not Joe Burrow. Nabers & the other guy that’s rated high as the other group. Nabers would have been a RB 15-20 years ago. He’s blazing fast and turns into a RB after he catches the ball. I like him most from the duo. Getting back to Jayden he didn’t miss those guys and had the arm to hit them deep down the field. They lost 2 games cause of no defense and they lost to (2) lost teams and 1 playoff team. Jayden is going to be a player. He’s thin but doesn’t matter as much as back in the day with the rules. Plus Jayden can fuckin run!

McCarthy is a 2nd/3rd rounder. And Penix is more of a 3rd/4th rounder. McCarthy will have some success due to the receivers they have and the head coach being the OC, but nowhere near warranting a 1st round selection.

Maye to the Pats is a risk given that they’ve not got an offensive head coach. You don’t want another Mac situation where it starts out great, then the OC gets hired away to be a HC somewhere, and the young QB is left to learn a new offense again. With the Colts, Ballard saying they need to protect AR could still fit with Bowers, given his blocking capabilities and the way that TEs can be a safety valve for a QB
The Steelers aren't going to draft a guy that is strictly a left tackle..... They want to move Jones to his natural left tackle position. If they draft a tackle at 20 it is going to be a guy who can play either side, preferably with more experience on the right.

If Odunze is there the Bears need to take him at nine. They are so weak after the top two and Allen misses a third of the games over the last two seasons. Also they only have him for one more year without an extension (and DJ only two more). The Bears will not get a chance to draft this high for a long time if all goes well. If they are draft Latu (who I personally think is the best edge in this draft) they can move down to get him. This would be a horrible pick.

According to their conversations it doesn’t seem the front office is very high on Guyton. He’s not ready to start at LT. I think they’ll trade back if Barton, JPJ or any of the other first round tackles aren’t available. I’d love Dejean but letting Tyron go put us in a position where we have to draft by need rather than BPA which is always a recipe for disaster.
