I love Chris Simms' work. People that say he's a hot take artist have never actually watched his shows. Dude's passion for football is off the charts and he's always super tolerant of different opinions.
That's what I thought and stayed away from his content. He simply just goes against the narrative on certain things. But like he said, he's not perfect. I think Harrison will be much better than Thomas, but I love the insight as to why he thinks that way and technically he's right about the physical traits. But you have to put it out on the NFL field and I think Harrison does that. But yeah, I love Simms thinking. He was sure wrong about Zach Wilson🤣 Maybe Wilson is better if he goes and sits at a place like Green Bay. High Douglas put him in a terrible situation running around for his life and expected to be the savior of the Jets
I like that he isn’t afraid to go against the grain. For example, I think Malik Washington is a top ten WR in this draft. I have seen nothing on his tape or at the combine that has made me think otherwise. The worst case scenario for him is that he is a solid WR 3 and it will be fun to see if I’m right. If I’m not who cares it just makes the discussion more interesting instead of just talking about the same guys over and over again
@rhizvo108 call8ng someone a hot take artist is a question of motivation. Just because a guy is different doesn't make him a hot take artist. I don't beleive for 1 second that simms sits down to make his rankings and thinks about what will get clicks.
You have to love Simms for the work he puts in, his views and the ownership he takes of his takes. I think his biggest weakness in terms of content is that he doesn't have another analyst to bounce his ideas off of in his own podcast. The analysis is better when he sits with people with different viewpoints like you guys or Connor Rogers.
Couldn't agree more! I've been listening to Simms since his BR days and not having a solid counterpoint doesn't let him review his thoughts during the process. For example, he talks a lot about explosive athletes (especially WR) but how many TDs scored are counted as explosive? Route running matters, I do believe it can be taught/coached but (for example) how much has DK Metcalf improved his route tree?
@@swimmia3Agree. Also considering that the NFL is nowadays an 2 high safety league so the chances of deep throws are getting lesser, which impacts the value of deep threats.
This is a really good point and I hadn't thought about it. I know he talks ball with his dad constantly, but the problem is they see the game too similarly, and that's not really part of the show anymore anyway.

I kind of agree with him about Marvin Harrison Jr. He is great in a lot of ways, but the speed and acceleration was underwhelming based on what I had heard.
Yes, I don't want Ohio state during the season so I hadn't seen him until after I heard all the hype. Expectations were probably too high. To clarify, I don't necessarily agree that I would take Odunzie and BT above him. I am not certain he will be able to run away from NFL CBs though.
Love Simms and also think he's wrong. That's the fun part of draft season... Personally when I see physically gifted college athletes that don't dominate in college, that concerns me. Makes me wonder what the disconnect is and I would rather bet on good athletes that have the drive to be great.
Great episode/discourse. People get way too into their takes, and magnify others misses entirely too much. Draft discourse could be a lot better if more analysts humbled and reminded themselves nothing is certain and no player rises to the top no matter what. Situation/injuries/outside life circumstances can all impact someone’s trajectory regardless of how their actual skillset translates to the league.
I have followed Simms because of Florio since 2019, and being a Chiefs fan WE lucked out w\Mahomes but Veach got lucky too since Mahomes did not go to "other" schools. Simms has missed plenty, but the hits are always focused on...and he did play the position plus his Dad is Philzy.
Saying Cooper might be better at safety than corner isn't a bad take, but comparing him to Weddle is wild. Is there no other safety since 2007 to compare him to, like Antoine Winfield Jr? I suspect he didn't get the pro comparison from just the film or athletic numbers...
I really miss Todd McShay in this draft process. These three I watch the overwhelming majority of the time: Chris on his Podcast and PFF Love (Mel Kiper) as well.
Finally, someone who sees AJB in BTJ. They way he fights for inaccurate throws and quickly dukes or throws guys off him after making contested catches. Not his fault LSU rarely scripted full route trees for their team. They played to Jayden's downfield strengths, can't blame the team, and can't blame Brian for doing what the team asked him to do within that.
Simms misses all the time. In 2020, Jacob Eason was his #5 QB in the draft. 2019 - Drew Lock was his #2 - and Dwayne Haskins was his number 3 in that draft. He’s Bad.
There is some jameson williams similarities to brian thomas jr which is why I believe chris is high on him and when you watch marvin he's a taller ceedee lamb. Marvin top 15 pick thomas top 25 pick.

What these guys will never address when it comes to being wrong about draft evaluation is that its not about batting 1.000 because its simply not possible; what it is about is not being easily wrong/wrong in a big way. Nope… Harrison is the bigger WR, who’s shown better jump ball/contested ability than nabers. He also runs faster than odunzie, and he ran 4.47 or so. None of these WR’s are special prospects with great size and speed.
I think Simms is making the same mistake with MHJ as he did with Will Anderson last year. Both he criticized for not being ultra athletes but Anderson proved that he doesn’t need that to be great and I think MHJ will too.
Cant wait for Tyree Wilson to get 10 sacks and dominate against the run this year coming off the bench. He should be fully recovered from his ankle injury and actually have an offseason... assholes
It’s annoying that Steve always flexes his model’s hit rate. Like yeah maybe the 80th percentile guys have a high hit rate but if those guys are mainly the prospects that are also top 100 on the consensus big board then ofc the hit rate is high. More interesting would be to know which percentage of the “model guys” that aren’t high on the consensus and which percentage of the “non-model guys” that are high on the consensus end up being hits.
