I'm glad you liked that Kaientai match. It's one of those random matches I remember watching live, and I loved how Cole and The King marked out over the Posse's finishing moves. Perfect 5 minute TV match.
I think I saw that one live because the line about the King cracking funnies over their moves feel very familiar. Even if I did not, I have seen enough King that I am pretty sure I know how it went. 🤣
Though it may seem weird looking at their record, I always felt the Mean Street Posse was undervalued and underused. The gimmick was great for the comedy aspect, being thugs from Greenwich. With the odds significantly stacked in their favor, they could work as effective enforcers, while failing whenever the odds weren't so favorable. The Kaientai match in particular showed how to get good use from them.
The MSP vs. Stooges match set a cable viewership record for a wrestling match at the time and is still in the top-5 to this day (where, with pop culture so fragmented these days, it will likely remain forever).
Great video Hawk. I know that's kind of Brian Zane's territory but I like you are unique take on a lot of the stuff. All of the videos have several laugh out loud moments for me
How about a British Bull Dog 99 return run video? No chance he had more than 30 matches. It was an awful run but atleast we'll get to hear Michael Coles "dog poop" line.
People can say what they want about the Mean Street Posse (mainly Pete Gas and Rodney), but you can't deny that they didn't try to make a go at professional wrestling. Both Pete and Rodney were eventually sent down to Memphis Championship Wrestling (which was WWF's developmental territory at the time) to learn how to properly work, whereas they could've easily just phoned it in for a quick and easy paycheck.
Didn't one get sent to Puerto Rico though? Isn't that where wwf sent ppl they wanted to leave but because of contracts they couldn't release them without paying the whole contract? To make them miserable so they quit? I wonder if it was Rodney as he and Shane ain't friends no more.
@@savagecatgt It was Pete Gas actually. But you're right. Back then before OVW became their primary developmental territory, they sent a lot guys down they didn't want anymore to IWA Puerto Rico. Tiger Ali Singh was sent down there after realizing he wasn't worth the money he was being paid.
Fun fact: Joey Abs was friends with the Hardys going back to their OMEGA days. He's kinda the unknown/forgotten piece of the Matt/Lita/Edge drama because he had long been retired from wrestling and not many know nor remember the girl they both were dating on and off.

According to him, Joey Abs, from the Mean Street Posse, told the WWE that Matt did it and Abs was at one point a close friend of Matt's but things fell apart after Joey got cut from WWE, got onto drugs I think, and Matt started dating one of his exes after Lita. That's the reason why Matt Hardy was released. Whether or not you think he actually did it is one thing. It's hard not to see WWE's position in something like that though.

The fact Shane built himself and the posse from the rough and mean streets of Greenwich Connecticut is hilarious as hell to me

The vignettes by the posse about Shane being a badass were hilarious.
Privileged private school kids acting like hard men on road. The mean street posse were ahead of their time. Lmfao
