Dear Future Wifey S2, E203: Knowing My Why (LaTerria, Armani, & LaDarrion)

  • This is the most personal conversation one can have as Laterras allows the audience to share an intimate sitdown with his children. “Why” comes from within you. It is a feeling that compels you to do the work you want to do even if it requires short-term sacrifice. "Knowing My Why" is the most transparent episode because it's delivered from the hearts of those closest to Laterras.

Praise&Glory to our Lord Jesus Christ MI GOD!! It's makes me see Laterras ìin Whole way. blessing to mi soul to see the Leadership he exudes over his children and man enough to admit his shortcomings. The only time mi data got a whipping was when she sneaked and drank a whole 12pk of 🥤 juicy juices. 😅 No parent is perfect, No child is perfect, No marriage is perfect. But the common denominator here is that all 3 need God,Son& Holy Spirit as a foundation. Periodt!... your data is so BEAUTIFUL, she looks jus like you. Your sons are wise young men. You have done well. No matter if dem stray; will come back to the Word of God you have instilled in dem. We ave to do what is required of us and leave the rest to God. Just like planting a seed and watch the plant or 🌸 grow❤

Mr. Whitfield this is a gift your openness and sharing with your family. Thank you.

This is such a vulnerable space to have created with your kids. It is something of a marvel really.
Being in your daughter’s shoes, I would be so broken and unburdened to hear my father acknowledge and apologize for his cheating and what that did to me and the family at large. It’s incredible how many of us walk around with dad wounds that hurt even in our adulthood.
Your sons are so full of wisdom. Armani, sir!!!! Let’s just pass the offering basket because you were preaching so good. May God keep you and uphold you as you commit yourself to saving yourself for marriage and being faithful in your marriage. And all that at 17??? Wow!
I love how you teach your kids about Christ practically - that gifting them when they are so ‘undeserving’. What a teaching on how we are not saved by works, and thus we can never earn His grace.
    ‘If you know your why
You’ll be more intentional with your who
    Discerning about your what
    Patient with your when
    And submitted to your where’
(I was expecting you to repeat this powerful phrase but you just went right on 😅. I replayed that part so I could catch it and sit with it).
Your unconventional fatherhood is healing. I wish more fathers and parents in general would learn to apologize to their kids for things that they did that impacted them negatively.
Such a wonderful family you’ve built. Way to leave a legacy!
(Also, how lucky am I today? This timing works for some of us on the other side of the world 😊)

Ladarrian’s speech pattern and expressive language reminds me of my younger brother who was on 2 different ADHD meds for years. You can tell the speech is there, they just have trouble getting it to come out how they want. Speech therapy helped so much and he was more confident speaking in school and church afterwards. He seems like such a sweet kid.❤️

I was and am still very transparent with my daughter. After two divorces, I gave my life to Christ and built a personal relationship with God. I was committed and sacrificed a lot raising her alone. I thought this was the best way to teach her about celibacy, however, my daughter’s transparency shared that I never showed her “how to have a relationship” It felt like a low blow but she married at 25 as a virgin and has learned that no matter what I was or was not able to teach her Marriage is developed by the union. She gets it after 5yrs of marriage, motherhood and as a business owner 😊I really love your Podcasts! Giving me courage to finally start my own

WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! To hear your son say, "The bible says sex outside of marriage is sin against your body" made me take pause. I RARELY if ever hear anyone in Christian circles reference that scripture when speaking about abstinence. People know it's there but are mum. I listen to bishops, preachers and whatever else title people claim say they have a different interpretation when it comes to the unmarried having sex and the bible. Some are quite learned in the scriptures and are adept about justifying unmarried sex.... to that I say... carry on. However, kudos to you sir for your honesty in this area and teaching your young men the Word. It's not just for the girls but for the boys as well.

I too wanted to experience and make sure my marriage was healthy for my daughters, who are for sure my "why", and it ended in my husband cheating on us and fathering a baby while we were married... I guess we make ourselves self-righteous and the marriage an idol...because God knows us He allows the dismantling of those idols and brings us back into alignment with Him. Healing is a hard process after trauma but much needed...❤

Awesome episode! It was good seeing the transparency you have with your family. Developing a solid foundation is not just between a husband and a wife: but, includes the children we are responsible for as well. Many of us grew up hearing the famous statement by our parents "stay out of grown folk business." Your daughter thought you were perfect! By you sharing your flaw concerning your divorce, I believe helped her dispel the myth of how she viewed you, which was unrealistic. It's beautiful to see that open honesty, about your mistakes and failures, have brought you and your children to a place of healing. Thanks for sharing with us 'Your Why'!

I love your relationship with all three of your children. The dialog between you and LaTerria was awesome. It’s nice to see how your father/daughter relationship evolved. My dad and I have come long ways as well, but we have a great relationship now. Armani is “my guy!” 🙌🏾 He is so mature beyond his years, has a sweet spirit, and funny too. I love the fact that he wants to wait until marriage to have sex and his reasoning from the Bible as well as his concept of marriage...this kid is amazing. He is also a great example to LaDarrion. I applaud you for being a great father and for this episode. I am still in transition after taking in my two cousins. It’s a lot! Parenting is hard, especially when you’ve been alone most of your life. I look forward to these moments where we have evolved. One day at a time, one step at a time. God bless you and thanks for this great content!

Loving the transparency of you and your Why’s and how you revealed the Grace of God in this family!! What a blessing you are to your children and to all who hear your truths on these platforms!! I’ve also considered adopting and will keep it on my radar. I also LOVE your letter to your Future Wifey!! I haven’t seen many men who articulate your heart as you do, even among men of God!!! You future wifey will be incredibly blessed as your new Why and the Glory of the Lord will shine upon that covenant!!! Blessings to you & yours Always!!!

The vulnerability you've had with your children is beautiful Laterras. By being that way you have taught your children to love you fully and completely.

This was a heartfelt interview, Thank you for being Transparent. If we don't confront our stumbles in the road we can't fix them. I can relate to being open and honest with my now (3 young adults) children after my divorce and different decisions made throughout the years. May God continue to Bless you and your family ❤ 🥰❤

Laterras, I really enjoyed this podcast with you and your family. Open communication is so important to have with our children, and giving them that "safe" space to openly communicate and express themselves. Thank you. I appreciate you.

Thank you Laterras for being LIT even with your children! I can tell you are a good father because you're going around the table to each and every one of your kids getting feedback from all of them. The positive and the negative. And that can be hard as a parent especially when it's your children. I do the same thing at night with my 2 boys during our family prayer/ family meeting. I tell them if there's anything that I can do for them or if I ever make them feel like they're not important or a priority to let me know immediately and I will fix it. ❤This episode!

This is so inspiring. Thank you for your transparency, kindness and walking it out with your kids. The number 1 mistake parents make is to assume that if we have told our kids what to do that is enough.
I'm also learning to be a better mother to my son by being a better example to him and being present. I've also learned that there's a lot of unlearning I needed to do in order to fully be present, kind and loving towards my son.
Your honesty with your daughter is so refreshing, I wished my dad was as emotionally present as he was physically present then.
You give me hope that waiting is not in vain because men and fathers like you exist. As a single mother, I've exposed my son to a similar hurt and I vowed to protect him since then.
Being a parent is not about being perfect or doing it right always. It is definitely about showing up and giving it your best and that is enough.
Thank you Laterras, I pray you find your perfect fit because you have beautiful kids and all of you deserve that❤🙏🏼

Those conversations can be tough but needed for healing to take place; after all, our kids are impacted by who we are, have been and will continue to choose to be. It's good to see that kind of setting in display, so thanks for sharing. Best wishes in all your endeavors and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

“If you know your Why you’ll be more intentional with your Who, discerning about your What, patient with your When, and submitted to your Where.” I just needed to write it out so that I can see it!!! ❤🔥🤯🙌🏽
