  • All but two of 51 Democratic senators support a measure endorsing the two-state solution as part of a national security funding package that includes military aid to Israel. Walter Isaacson spoke with New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman about these developments, and about what Friedman calls a failure of leadership by the Israeli prime minister.

No. It's the trifecta - Biden too - with Hunter's laptop - that ties into him too. Hunter setting up meetings for people to meet the "Big Guy"? That makes Brandon involved in taking bribes. You also have to remember this is the elite of the elite class. The chances of any of these people going to jail are slim. Remember - They may hate Trump but would they really want to send someone to jail that would create a precedent for something they may do one day? Also - Don't be surprised if Netanyahu is granted in the asylum here in the US and his room board and lots of security are funded by us - the American taxpayers!

Many of those who claimed, and were perceived to be, "a friend of Israel" over the past 20 years, only ended up making the situation worse for Israel, because they naively equated support of Israel with support of Netanyahu, rather than any sort of engineered path to peace. And that path would have precluded the rapid expansion of settlements, and hopefully their dismantling. But instead, we got ever greater resentment of Israel by Palestinians, and the stupidest of "manifest destiny" from settlers.

Everywhere I look on this continent, I see "NIMBY-ism". Citizens reject this or that being near their home, be it a manufacturing facility, a homeless shelter, a nuclear facility, a highway, a supervised injection site, or any of a host of other things. Heck, in my city, Chinese residents approached city hall to block building a funeral home too close to their neighbourhood, because it would bring "bad luck". So why aren't ordinary Gazans absolutely fuming and livid that Hamas has a) invited this dreadful response from Israel by their actions on Oct. 7, and b) situated their actions and facilities where high civilian casualties would be an expected and automatic outcome of the anticipated Israeli response? Hamas will not be "destroyed" with bombs and arrests. It will be destroyed by Gazans recognizing that only misery will follow if Hamas continues to have any power whatsoever. Bombings just serve to entrench a naive view that Hamas is Gaza's "defender".

Before 1948, was there a state or country called Israel ? Israel itself what does it mean ? It means the descendants of the 12 children of Yacoob, who is known as Israel. While the children of Israel were enslaved in Egypt, that land was occupied by its original inhabitants, the cananites whose blood modern day Palestinians still carry in their veins. Palestinians didn’t drop from the sky, they did not immigrate to Palestine from Saudi Arabia or some other Arab country , Palestine is their historical home. That is not your case, many of you immigrated to Palestine from Europe, especially Eastern Europe and North America. Before Netanyahu all the leaders of Israel were born outside of it! Netanyahu himself, Netanyahu isn’t his real last name, he is the son of a polish man, Benzion Mileikowsky. North America originally belongs to Native Americans, so should everyone leave America and give it back to Native Americans who owned it thousands of years ago? Are European Russian or Polish Je..ws really the descendants of these 12 tribes? And even if you were, that doesn’t give you the right to kick people of their land and then use the Bible to justify your theft of Palestinian land, you destroyed more than 500 Palestinian villages, massacred countless thousands of them in order to create your country. One correction. There's no evidence that rape was part of Hamas' plan. I can't think of why they would do it, what benefit for Palestine would that bring? And the family of a victim who the NYT said was raped on Oct 7 asked them to retract that because there's no evidence. Look more into the case of Gal Abdush. Rape almost certainly happened on October 7th and I condemn all rapists and hope for a full independent investigation in which all perpetrators are brought to justice. Saying that Hamas intentionally raped people is excuse for genocide.

From the river to the sea is the mantra of Israel's right wing Likud party. It was co-opted by Hamas, and the reason Hamas was born in the first place. It calls for the Israel to be free, from the river to the sea, so Hamas was formed to directly counter that ideology, and the reason they openly call for Israel's annihilation. The only difference is the Israeli version is tongue in cheek, and Hamas is open about it. And while I won't say there was no rape, Israel has been caught in many lies since 10.07, including bombing women and children. Many hostages were on Israeli TV and said they saw no rape. There was one woman, and somehow now there's more. So again, not refuting it, but it's very suspicious and needs investigating. If there was, I still chalk it up to imprisoning Gaza for half a century and killing Palestinians at will for 75 years, as well as the many violations of the cease fire since 2008 that Israel committed. That's not an excuse, but I can understand the motivation. You cannot keep your boot on the neck of an entire people for 75 years without driving some of them to unspeakable acts of violence and terror.

    • @davidgoddard5532
      @davidgoddard5532 4 місяці тому

Whatever you call it, it has been the policy of the Palestinians since 1947/8. Regarding the released hostages, they can't say publicly what they saw, especially when they have friends & relatives still being held hostage because Hamas have told them their loved ones will be killed. It will take many years for the truth of how they were treated when they were taken and while they were held. Furthermore, Hamas may never release the hostages they have raped or mistreated. They will be killed so they won't be able to testify. And of course, Hamas will say Israel killed them in the military operation to release them.
The Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank have rejected a two State solution repeatedly since 1947/8 and chose to turn the Gaza strip into an underground military installation from which to bombard Israeli civilians in their homes with tens of thousands of missiles on a weekly basis. They have bee allowed to wok in Israel, many live in Israel and prosper as doctors, surgeons etc so Israel is not an apartheid. It would be if he Palestinians were in control though! If Israel weren't Policing the West Bank, it would also be a military base that looks down on Israeli cities which would also be attacked constantly. There will be no peace, no solution until the Palestinians accept Jews have a right to live in the area, whether a one state or a two State system. They would all be better off living together in one State with fully imposed anti racist laws like we have in Europe. Voting rights? Yes but a system of power sharing perhaps like N Ireland but the international community cannot allow the Palestinians to take control and discriminate against the Jews.

@@davidgoddard5532 From the River to the Sea is as old as 1947 because that's when Zionists like Nuttyahoo's dad & grandad came up with the slogan. And don't believe everything you read in the papers about hostages or that all Palestinians are terrorists. Israel has struggled to get witnesses to "confirm" their allegations, and a few have changed their story and said they were pressured by the government. Now they're down to 1 person with no forensic evidence. Did she not go to the doctor when she was freed? Israel has been caught in so many lies it's nose is touching Italy. They actually offer no evidence and expect everyone to keep taking them at their word. There's one guy (Jeffrey Gettleman) at the NY Times that prints these stories, and he's telling the story the NY Times wants told. Israeli news only reports the claim, and they're quick to say it cannot be confirmed. Everyone else is in US media are re-writing what Gettleman claims. When you see videos from Israeli TV News with hostages themselves telling a different story you need to admit that, at the very least, Israel is not being totally honest. I'm not defending Hamas, but they are two peas in the same pod. The sooner you find that out the closer to the truth you get. And no terrorist nation has a right to exist. The Israel of the past 4 months is having a very hard time justifying their existence to the rest of the world right now. That's why we are on the verge of WWIII.

@@davidgoddard5532 You got that backwards. That was the Zionist slogan invented when Israel was drumming up support for attacking Palestine even before the 40's. Palestinians had no need for the slogan since it was already their land. The PLO first co-opted the phrase in the 60's, using it to call for the return of a free Palestine state. The slogan is from the Zionists of Nuttyahoo's dad & grandad's generation as soon as they started plotting how they could take over the land they felt they had a blood-right to. The 2nd bit was changed to Palestinians will be free.
And the horrors of the hostages are published by one journalist, Jeffrey Gettleman of the NY Times. All the other stories you read are using his as their source. Israeli TV news has done pieces on the freed hostages, and they tell a different story. Israeli media has run the accusations, but they are all quick to say there is no evidence and the claims cannot be confirmed. What has been confirmed is Israel firing on their own people on 10.07, Israel bombing hospitals without finding these terror bases underneath except one of their own caches, as well as firing on hostages waiving a white flag and the killing of over 100 journalists, some of them American born. What the facts the rest of the world are going by are that Israel attacked a defenseless nation in 1948, and have been trying to exterminate the people of that nation ever since.

Does uber ethnic cleansing at the minimum qualify as genocide? Is 10,000, 20,000, or 30,000 murders inadequate to declare a genocide? He also had lukewarm support for the Iran nuclear deal, calling it the "best bad deal." He has in a number of ways talked in sync with Israeli policymakers over the years, especially with regards to iran, and even here he downplays the impact of the Anti Iran policies some of which he himself was for. Iran needed the nuclear deal to grow economically; for as long as they were allowed to gain economically from the nuclear deal, they would have treaded carefully in their anti US and anti Israeli efforts; and they would have protected their Western trade relations. The end of the nuclear deal freed Iran's hands; they had nothing to lose from their newly hardened anti US/Israel stance. They understandably also wanted to punish the US and Israel for having Iran negotiate for two years and then make them walk away empty handed despite Iran's complying fully with the deal. The loss of the deal brought back the hardliners to power in Iran. That too was predicted. Rememeber, the deal was front-ended: Iran had to make the larger concessions upfront before benefits kicked in year later. Iran's animosity toward Israel grew more fierce because they know Israel's number (one) goal is get the US attack Iran rather than make a deal with and (two) to economically stifle Iran in the meantime.

One non-Jewish state with full citizenship and equal rights for all, including of course the right for Palestinians to return from around the world, is the only possible human solution for those who want to live in peace, if that is GOD'S will.
Notice I said "human solution" because the Divine solution might be other than that, but whatever it is, it won't be a solution that ends well for Zionist Israel. Her sins and crimes against humanity are too much, and she will be brought to justice and appropriately Recompensed for what she has done to the Palestinians.

I’ll give him another chance now and watch this, but based on a previous interview on this platform, I’m shocked at how little Thomas Friedman knows since his days from publishing “From Beirut to Jerusalem“, which I read twice. Sad to see. In retrospect, better book is David Shipler’s “Arab and Jew, wounded spirits in the promised land“

@DrTomMD You're right. Tom Friedman claims to want to know why Hamas did things on Oct 7th, like alleged "mass rape", etc. Anyone with a reputation as a Middle East expert -- would know that Hamas leadership a few days ago released their official written statement refuting many lies Israel repeats over & over (including refuting the lies about "mass rape", "babies in ovens", etc.). They answered Friedman's questions -- but he either pretends to not know about this report, or he's deceivingly ignoring it.

    Two points here:
One about the tunnels being extended next to hospitals and urban area. Those tunnels at one point were used to transport goods around Gaza. The tunnels were built as a reaction to the Israeli rules for limiting calories for the people of Gaza. To say how do Israelis army will react to having those tunnels next to primary activity outlets in the city. Where are they suppose to build them since Gaza is limited in space? As a matter of fact, ex prime minister Barak claimed that the tunnels built next to the hospitals were constructed by Israel army in the past. The second point is
Again and Again repeating the baseless rape that was dismissed a long time ago. Freedman wants to justify the atrocities committed by the Israeli army.
Concerning Iran and its nuclear power, I would be more concerned about the Israel weapons and how it’s being used during this atrocity more than any army including Iran and Korea.

The problem in not Natanyahu, it's that 44% of Israelis want to colonize gaza and 99% want to colonize west bank. A Palestine state has to be pried out of their hands either by war or by global peaceful boycott untill they realize occupation is too expensive to maintain!!

im not sure if this is in jest or you're being serious. PBS participated in obfuscating nearly every aspect of the "war" (ethnic cleansing) until recent weeks, it did the most damage during the first days of the conflict regurgitating IDF talking points. In fact, during the initial and most intense publicly recorded / documented / televised calls for literal ethnic cleansing of gaza by senior israeli government officials & leadership - PBS was nowhere to be found aside from the strict talking points they were required to repeat 24/7 on the airwaves. I'm not attacking you, but please consider your words against the reality on the ground. Take care

@@jbear1801 There was a clear global shock at the obvious atrocity that was the October 7th attack. With respect, there wasn't anything else TO cover in the immediate aftermath of a thousand dead civilians. That being said, as evidence began to come out of Israel's overreaction, PBS has been one of the few fair outlets toward Palestinians for easily the past 8+12 weeks. I've been watching myriad news outlets since the beginning from Israeli sources to Al Jazeera to domestic outlets within the US.

True! Only GOD can fix this ! Included among the people who don't believe in GOD are the Zionist who claim that GOD gave them the land and that the Torah is their deed.
ALLÃH is GOD! People who don't believe in GOD don't believe and don't understand that Justice, Judgment, Recompense, Reward, and Punishment, Forgiveness and Mercy are Ultimately (figuratively speaking) in the Hands of ALLÃH.
Fixing it and making it right is not just about what happens in this temporary world. The life of this world, among other things, is a test that all of us are required to take, and many of us are doomed to fail because we deny ALLÃH and we don't even try to understand.
