Worth noting that for the class, you don't have to pay all costs as it goes down! Maybe you already knew that but since you referred to late game it sort of didn't seem like it. Realistically, in green, you can have a land and dork down turn one, another land and then this card + its second level turn 3, and its third level turn 4, and that's assuming you don't instead ramp even more before then. It is *very* good for what it does, in edh yes but also in standard where you can get multiple out early to start stacking multiple wards and start of combat counters.
