- I was so happy to receive this hat in the mail. It is amazing!
If you're an indy fan, and really, who isn't? And you want a Fedora, this might be THE edition to get.
This is a special edition 40th Anniversary Streets of Cairo "Poet" hat, with all the bells and whistles to replicate the infamous hat from Raiders, including "the turn", the bulge and the "IJ" initials.
Herbert Johnson made the original hat for Raiders of The Lost Ark, as well as the Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade, but if was never made the same again after the Raiders.
For more information on the hat, here's a great little write up from Herbert Johnson

If you're interested in getting this hat, it might still be on sale at herbertjohnson...

I asked Mel at Herbert Johnson if they were making hats for the current film, she said she can’t comment due to NDA. Very interesting reply.
yeah wonder if she knew or not. They were made by Adventurebilt for the last one.
That would be a great bookend to the series if they did.
@@sgtpepper1138 I agree, my gut feeling…it’s Herbert Johnson.
@@billb89 Since they have an NDA and all, yeah.
They probably sent in their hats to be considered. But who knows if their specific company was picked to be used in the film. I’m guessing they have to sign an NDA if they submitted hats to be considered (not so much that they were the ones that were chosen) if that makes sense
That Herbert Johnson is the crown jewel of any Indiana Jones collection.
Congrats! I have a Crusade Herbert Johnson poet and I wear it a lot, even in the warm sun! It's weathering very nicely and it's very comfortable! I brought it through 4 US states : Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Florida, and it's still great!
i've worn my everyman hat on trips around the us and to kenya. This one I might just weather up for display. We shall see...
did you get one from Watsons hat shop
Congratz my friend I ordered mine a few months ago and they told me I was far up on the list so I won't see mine till early next year but enjoy the hat my friend looks great on you!
Thanks. It's a neat hat, I'm sure you'll be happy when you receive it. I'm glad I got mine.
And I learned something new about the streets of cairo hat. the "bulge" on the right hand side. Very specific and they included it on this edition.
Fullers earth weathering next!
Great unboxing and impressions video! Your lighting and production with some B-roll is very good. Keep it up! I have the same hat, enjoy and wear it well!
Thanks Preston!
Indiana Jones is my hero way back in the '80s with my dad took me to the drive-in to go watch Indiana Jones that's all I wanted to be when I was a kid we used to go to the store and is a grocery store and they had Halloween stuff there and they have that Indiana Jones hat I used to beg my dad to buy it for me my dad is cheap but I think the hat was maybe $35 $45 but that was I think 1982 1983 that was a lot of money back then but I didn't have that money back then I was like 9 10 years old I enjoyed your video
In my experience, its gonna be a three season hat. Too hot for the summer and then you can switch to a cotton or linen one to keep the head cool.
Great review and a most awesome hat. Fortune and Glory!
"Good? Yeah? Good?" Yes, Marius, very very good :) Fist bumps from Canada
Thanks
That's an amazing hat! Just watched Harrison Ford talk about the new movie coming up! At the moment I'll be seeing it in my Akubra Federation IV from the Hattery or Hatsdirect! Great Australian company with amazing hats!
Wear it at every opportunity, you need to give the hat life. After all. it is stunning.
It's really just the cardboard box which is the special edition, the hat itself is just the Cairo poet but repackaging often helps a slump in sales.
My understanding is that IJ creases have an offset while the original poet hats don't.
Love the content and the hat. As a kid I always wanted his hat...still do actually !
Guess we never really grow up. Keep up the good work, subbed !
appreciate it. And yes, we never really grow too old for "toys"

Cheers mate!
At least I know what I'm looking forward to I'm getting one myself but I'm getting the Last Crusade version
Nice fedora. Not sure what scene shape you like but most have a similar look. There is a scene in the making of raiders of the lost ark when in the raven bar scene, you actually see Harrison shaping the fedora. Its when Caren Allen messed up her lines and Harrison was behind her.. I have a 12yr old penman raiders and that scene brought my fedora to life. My bash is pretty spot on. Since Harrison did the shaping most have a similar look from the temple, raven bar, Well of Souls, to the truck chase. The streets of cario was thought to be the very same fedora used in the swing into the river scene. Great fedora, great video.
Perfect! I wish I had one!
thanks, it's great hat :) they also have the new Destiny hat now
The Temple of Doom poster. A most brilliant treasure. 🍷
Got a Herbert Johnson Raiders Poet last year. Love it. Wasn't cheap but it was worth it.
Nice. it's a great hat.
i have the "Adventure Built" version. beaver felt. Perfect Indy hat🥰
Fantastic Lid! You should post that in the Indiana Jones groups on social media! they would love to see your hat!
My hat is out for delivery today, been waiting for 8 months. 😀
Nice. It's a great hat :) Are you wearing or displaying?
I have a Penman hat. It is the beaver and not the everyman. Great hat and has held up well the past 8 years so far
Imagine if you started to melt as soon as you opened that box 😃
I'm glad that didn't happen. That looked uncomfortable
Only if you ordered The Major
Just ran across your channel. Great quality for a first video! Love that hat too, although I’d be tempted to wear it more than I should for the price haha.
Thank you. Wearing it will give it some nice genuine aging
Got one on order but it won't be worn much but put on display in my prop and memorabilia room
Same here, it's going on the shelf.
I’ve ordered one 100% beaver I am a hat collector I’ve never seen any Indiana movie in my whole life but maybe I will watch one
It's great hat in of itself. You got one from Herbert Johnson?
@@mariuscinematicuniverse yes definitely wanted the original maker
I got an Indiana Jones hat from..Universal Studios, or Disney world, in Florida, as part of the I.J. clothing line. It fits good, look good, but it's not a real Fedora. If you look carefully, in..Last Crusade, where "Indy" is outrunning the tanks, his hat goes flying off, and notice the silk lining.
That is a beautiful hat. You appear to have a habit of having the hat on unevenly so that the crease in the crown often looks bent because it turned oddly. I refer not to a sloop to on side but a turn that messes with the appearance from the direct front.
Awesome hat. love the video!
Thank you, appreciate it.
Nice hat Im looking for one now
It's a good one. I don't think they sell this exact edition anymore. Adventurebilt is also a good one
"It's the years, not the mileage" which is exactly backwards.
Hi ! for your information Herbert Johnson website have a new hat for the new movie : Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny !!!!
Thanks, yes I did see they have the new DoD hat. And Wested Leather also has the DoD jacket. with bullet hole repair :)
May I ask; The colour of the ribbon on your new Herbert Johnson fedora - is it black or brown/black?
Many thanks.
It's a really dark brown. Thought it was brown, then looked at it, thought it was black but in better light it is very dark brown :)
It belongs in a Museum!
I'll have to get one
The hat is great on you. To hell with display!!! Wear that baby!
The hat is a pretty well perfect rendition of the original(s)....I got a very similar one from Wested Co. in Britain...but unfortunately they put in a 'cowboy', i.e. upturned, pinch on the sides...Damn.....Perhaps I'll get used to it.
you should be able to reshape that by wetting it and shaping it?
Cool video. Cool hats. I know everyone wears their hat, "their way", which is fine. I just noticed in this video You wear the Pinch turned over near Your left eye rather than centered between your eyes. If you centered the pinch between your eyes it would bring the ribbon forward and cause the hat to get those cool bends in the brim that Indiana Jones hats are known for. Maybe you didn't realize that, or maybe it's just your style to wear it your way. Which is just fine. I'm Not trying to be a "know it all". Just trying to help out a fellow Indy Hat aficionado.
thanks, yes I didn't really place it properly, just placed it on my head there for the shot.
Red hats nice! You should wear it.
Great video, I’m a big Indiana Jones fan myself. Both hats look great. I was wondering, though it seems like with all the hats the crown, and the line in the middle of the hat seems to be off to one side is there a reason for this?
yes, its called "the turn" and it was Harrison Ford that chose to do this apparently. So it's his signature take on the hat.
That’s like the first Herbert Johnson hat that I’ve seen that has a shape like the hat in the films.
Every time I see a HJ unboxing video, that hat looks huge on the wearer. Huge and not like the hats from the film. The only hatters I’ve seen get the screen used hats’ shape right are Steele and Jones, screen capped, and Adventurebilt.
It's a great hat, they did a good job on it.
The Raiders IJ Poet Hat will set you back $518.00 US dollars, plus shipping! That's a lot of income to spend on a cosplay item!
The biggest downfall for me, is that you can’t store the damn thing in the box. There is a line of felt inside that bends the crown and brim. So you’d better have a nice play to store it. And I already have the “airplane” grey Poet as well, which is in my traveling hat storage box. Every time I take this hat out of the box, it is bent. I should have paid closer attention to what the felt looked like when I removed it from shipping.
true. I didn't think about storing it in the box. They really should have sent a hat box
Any advice on how to measure properly to avoid getting too tight like your first try you mentioned?
Have someone help you measure. And do it a few times, and maybe average it out. And it's probably better to go slightly bigger and use hat tape to make it fit than trying to stretch out a tight hat.
Its better to get a hat that’s a little big than one that’s too small. With a hat that’s slightly loose you can put in pads or masking tape to fine tune the fit. You can’t make a smaller hat larger
Wrap a fabric tape measure around the widest part of your head, about 1cm above the ears and about 2cm above the eyebrows. Needs to be secure but not pulled tight. That’ll give you the measurement you need.
Then just to be sure, you can cut a strip of paper or thin card to the size you’ve just measured, tape it together and try it on. If it sits comfortably around your head without slipping down or ripping, then the measurement is correct.
A little too loose is always better than a bit too tight.
How long would it take Herbert Johnson to make the hat if I was to pick it up in their actual London store?
oh, you probably have to check with them. I think it depends on many factors. This one was hand made to order so it took a while.
Dude, you left out the million dollar Question. How much was the hat? Looks great, I've been checking out their site. Getting mine soon. Have a good one.
This hat was £500, the pound was a little higher last year so it was $600 something us. This was a special 40th anniversary edition. So they made a special box, did all the special streets of Cairo shapes on the hat and included the I.J. I initials inside the hat, like in the movie. Altbought the font is different. Not sure what they were thinking there.
Great hat. And it's fun to have one made by the same company, I think. But lots of good hat options out there these days
@@mariuscinematicuniverse thanks. Yeah, I've been checking out the website, Im kinda partial to the temple hat.im only 5'9 so I think the Raiders hat may look a little too big.
same here. I do like the crusade hat because of that. but I got this primarily for the shelf :) I have the everyman hat to wear.
@@mariuscinematicuniverse I saw it, it looked fantastic. I tried to get in touch with adventure something, the Crystal Skull hat. My phone keeps giving me the unsecured website warning. Are they safe to checkout? I saw your older hat was so good you couldn't tellthwm apart for a second. David Morgan makes an adventure hat. I can't quit remember, was it patterson?
Thx for the help
Great video
Thanks
The bill in the front folks down more
the brim? yeah it can probably be shaped a little more. I'll also be doing some weathering to it
Hello! How long did you wait to have the hat?
Thanks
I ordered it in late June and it arrived in late December. So wbout 6 months, but a part of the delay was the boxes.
Looking at their website it looks this editon is available for order until the 31st
Hi, do you mind if I ask what size your hat is, and what width the brim is at the side and back and front? Thanks.
The hat is a 56cm. The brim is right about 3 inches on front and back and 2.5 inches on the sides
Thanks for the info. I’m on the waiting list for one of their fedoras and probably looking at a size of around 55cm. I’m just trying to work out what brim size I want.
Your fedora looks good.
Hi, sorry to bother you again. I forgot to ask you what is the height of your crown at the front please?
@GeordieIndy I'll have to check on that when I get back from traveling.
Indiana would say nice hat but it looks better on me kid
I tend to agree
👏🏻👌🏻
Is this the sable or deep sable?
Deep Sable
Do you have the Alden Indy boot for your collection? They are great, comfortable boots that are made in America.
I have looked at them but haven't bought a pair. Are they comfortable to wear?
@@mariuscinematicuniverse Yes, very comfortable and well made. Hope you have a nearby Alden store. The Shoe Mart is a good place to buy them online.
@@mariuscinematicuniverse Wested also makes a good version of them, if you want to order them along with the jacket.
I own the Wested boots and the leather is not bad at all but stiff and there is a few quality issues. They are just not in Aldens league. They took a bit to break in also.I never owned a pair of boots that did not require a break in time but my Aldens were confortable right out the box and of course can be resoled.
Wouldn't Henry Jones jr. have different initials on the sweatband other than IJ? Asking for a friend.
He doesn't like being called Jr so usually goes by as Indy ;) The initials are based on the actual shooting hat that Thad those initials
Te pones los sombreros torcidos, pones el pinch sobre el ojo izquierdo
I wish i had one haha
Can you still get this hat?
Not this specific edition, but they sell all the different versions of the indiana jones hat, including a streets of Cairo poet version
IT DOESN'T HAVE THE RAIDERS TURN
It does have the turn. Mayne it was just the way I put it on
The hat you have that’s a little too tight you can always send it back to the hatter and they can resize it
I might just do that. If I stretch it out it's fine, but then it always shrinks back a little.
Very nice, but please DO NOT hold it by the crown!
It's not handled like that much, but a little indy pinch at the crown can't be that bad?
I’m confused about you saying that this is as close you can get for an accurate hat because Herbert Johnson IS the ORIGINAL Indy hat for almost all the movies
Yes the original hats were made by Herbert Johnson so that's why I say this is probably as close to the original. There are some differences and it's not screen used so it's close but not an "original" hat :)
It's the years, not the mileage? You had one job. C'mon man.
