    I like batch sewing, but one thing I will say is that it really works best when you’re using just 1-2 colors of thread. Otherwise I find constantly having to change the thread just slows me down.

    I like batch making in stage of preparation of pattern, pressing, darts, hems, long seams, sawing buttons etc. With tricky elements like cuffs, collars, vents etc is just easier to take time and go slowly.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  3 роки тому

      A good suggestion, indeed! I do like to do hems all at once because then I can set my coverstitch machine, but you are right - when it is tricky, better go slow and take your time! Thank you for sharing!

    YESSSSSS!!! So many helpful tips!! I absolutely LOVE your simplistic style to pattern making!!
    Though I’ve sewn for MANY years, I’m currently studying pattern making (the hard way as I say) and enjoy watching your videos!
    I hope to “marry” simplified and technical sewing skills together to create easy sewing designs!
    Thank you for sharing your style!! 😘🥰

    i sewed two quilts at the same time, my design so it was helpful to do at the same time because they are identical quilts, rather having to put down explicit notes to remember details.

    Batch sewing is definitely a good idea, but for me I still feel I need to complete one garment for fit and alteration issues before cutting out multiples. Can see applying it to tops and especially like you did for young children's clothes. Thank you and as you said it is also good advice to apply to a lot of areas of your life.

    Great topic! I batch sew when I sew dresses for charity. I even "chain sew" the decorative ribbon on the pockets. When I sew for myself, I typically sew one garment at a time. Space is an issue and the thought of organizing all those pieces makes me dizzy! If I like a garment, I will usually sew another right away with a different sleeve length or neckline.

    When I do my test sewing projects I pull out my bin of DAV thrift store sheets that I buy as my muslin fabric. It's cute and can still be worn as an actually garment instead of using muslin fabric. I save my muslin fabric for my linings or slips.

    Batch sewing is great, for me the downside is keeping it organized!!!! If you choose to batch sew make a plan and find a rhythm. Sometimes we get in a hurry with batch sewing and it takes on a life of its own.

    Hi Lisa ??? I am so inspired by your sewing ability and techniques and you make everything simple. I love those blouses /dresses with stripes that have the stripes going in several different directions would you do a tutorial on that?

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  3 роки тому

      Hello there, Renee! Oh, those geometric models are great. It is really easy - you can work with what you already have. Take your favorite pattern - just use any of the blouse/dress patterns, instead of working with half of front or half of the back pattern piece you will need to work with a full front and full back pattern piece, mark how you want the geometric pattern to go, cut apart and add seam allowances and ta-da!

    Yes to all of this. I’ve fallen into these traps most recently with cutting out two coat patterns from a coat I never tested. Yikes. Now I feel obligated to finish but thy don’t look great on me. A lot of time invested . It’s heartbreaking and you can end up feeling very defeated rather than very competent. Lol

    I have a question and I don’t know if you already have a video on this. Let’s say you alter the front and back bodice armcye. How do you alter the sleeve to compensate for the change of the bodice. I hope you understand what I mean. 🥰 thank you so much

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  3 роки тому +1

      Great question - I don't have a video on this, but a quick answer is that whatever you adjust on a bodice has to be reflected on the sleeve, as you mentioned. It is hard to explain in writing only, hmmm...

    • @auntmayme8119
      @auntmayme8119 3 роки тому

      I’d like to add to what Alisa said. I have armhole problems because I have sloping shoulders and a forward neck which throws my shoulder ball more forward. (“Hunched” is the word. So what I have to do is cut a portion off the front shoulder seam, about 1/2”, and add it to the back shoulder seam. Then with the sleeve, I move the dot/notch forward the same amount. This rotates the sleeve in the armscye to take care of my shoulder ball being moved forward. You have to ease in the fullness in the front, but it does work.

    If I was going to make a top?
    how do you know how much fabric I would need to make my top. I’m plus size person.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  3 роки тому

      Erin, hi! Great question - 1) if you are using a ready made pattern (from store) then it would say it on the back according to your size 2) if you are drafting your own pattern - draft the pattern first, that will tell you how much fabric you will need. Take your measuring tape and measure on the floor the "rectangle" within which your pattern pieces fall. You can also take an existing piece of fabric you have - lay it out and then put your pattern pieces on top of it for a better visual. Keep in mind and don't forget that some pattern pieces are cut on the fold. You can also take your pattern to the store, during not so busy hours and put it right on top of the fabric bolt. That's how I do it if I am not sure! Hope this helps!
