This work was born as a project of the Superior Conservatory of Music of Castilla La Mancha coordinated and supervised by José Miguel Fayos Jordán, Head of the Composition Department of CSMCLM.
This center is the first Higher Center in Spain to teach the specialty of Conducting (Wind Band Itinerary). Within the curriculum, students study, among other subjects, Instrumentation and Orchestration and that is where this project comes from: a collaborative proposal among all the students that represent the first promotion of Directors officially qualified in Band Management in Spain where they intermingle the pedagogy, the practice, the creativity, the repertoire and a professional vision of the published work.
The proposal consists of the complete orchestration of "Pictures of an exhibition" from Moussorgsky's original piano and not from Ravel's orchestration, which is how this work is usually treated when it is transcribed for the band. This differential fact, transcription versus orchestration, is what makes this work present a completely new sound proposal of the original work.
This brings us to a totally new concept of the work in which we can also see movements eliminated by Ravel in his version for Orchestra. Therefore, this is a unique project that unites the pedagogical, creative, practical and professional vision of the European band movement. The last step, has culminated with the edition of this original work by the GTEMúsica publishing house that helps to leave an editorial testimony of a work of this magnitude.
