- Join us as we hike Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon and Spooky Gulch in Grand Staircase Escalante, Utah. We drove on Hole in the Rock Road to Peek-A-Boo Canyon and Spooky Gulch trailhead. We recommend going clockwise and start by going up Peek-A-Boo Canyon and out through Spooky Gulch. The entrance into Peek-A-Boo Canyon is intimidating and you have to climb up about a 12 foot wall into the canyon. After you are past the first part of the hike it is pretty easy and very beautiful. You then follow the cairns across the open desert for about a half a mile to Spooky Gulch. Spooky Gulch was hard. There was a boulder fall and you have to go down boulder fall and a rope. The tricky part is there is really no foot hold and you can't see the bottom. I am guessing it is about a 12 feet drop. (I can't imagine having to try to climb up the boulders and rope if you go the other way). After you get to the bottom of gulch you continue to the end. As you continue through the gulch it gets narrower and narrower. I do not recommend doing this hike if you are claustrophobic.

The skies so blue.
Absolutely stunning scenery.
I would struggle with 1 arm the hike but you guys managed so well. It's like another world.
The rock colour is so beautiful 😍
Thank you. It was definitely a fun hike.
These slot canyons look beautiful but definitely claustrophobic! What a cool place to hike!! 😄
The slot canyons were really neat and fun to hike.
Great job! Spooky is tight. At the narrowest section, consider dropping your core lower and you might find a few extra inches width. There is another way to drop down into spooky that is less intimidating and avoids the rope section. It is easily missed. At one point prior to your drop down, there is an earlier smaller drop that involves a bit of crawling under a boulder that is much easier.
I had no idea about the smaller drop. I think I would of like to go that way vs the rope section.
I love the names of these canyons. I love the beauty of this place. The water erosion and wind over time just creates the most amazing canyons to explore. This is my kind of hiking. I love scrambling across the rocks. It does remind me of that 127 Hours though 😂.
I was a little worried about getting stuck. At least we didn’t have to cut are arms off😊
I’m planning my trip to Utah now. This video is extremely informative. Thank you so much!
Have a fun trip! It is a beautiful area.
Its a lot of hike but you finally made it! Love to explore nature at its best. keep exploring and sharing guys
Thank you!
Some of those passage ways were so narrow! I would be so worried about getting stuck I don't think I would be brave enough to try it. Seems like incredible scenery there though - so that's always a plus. Great adventure!
I was scared a few times about getting stuck. Luckily we made it.
This was very helpful. We parked at Upper Dry Fork Trail head. Unfortunately Alltrails doesn't have this route. You save 2.5 miles on dirt roads, you don't have to worry about getting to the upper parking lot (saves another 0.4 hiking). You get to do all three slots.
I am glad it was helpful. I hope you had a great hike!
Wha a stunning scenery guys, this looks and feels spectacular!
Thank you.
Amazing you guys! Stay safe gave fun in the wonder nature
Thank you!
Wow, those canyons look great. A place where I too would love to hike.
Thank you.
nope....nope..... nope.... LOL. but good for you! I'm glad I could enjoy this hike by watching you do it!
😂 Thanks for watching!
Great video! I’m glad we missed it on our last trip. My GF would not have been as brave as you.
Thank you.
wow that was QUITE the hike! Great job to both of you I dont think I'd get through it! Well not sure I would FIT through some of the gaps there lol! Hope you had some plans if something went wrong! Very impressed! Clamouring through the rocks and hanging on for dear life!
It was a fun hike after we made it through! It was beautiful.
No rope when I did it a couple of years ago; heading back soon, tons of fun.
No way! I had a hard enough time with a rope. I couldn’t imagine doing it without one. Have a fun hike.
