I have a 5 gallon bucket in my shower and when I turn the shower water on to warm it up I use the 5 gallon bucket and then I use that water to water my plants outside
I do that in the kitchen with a milk jug when I need hot water. Pour water into jug until it comes out hot. Use the jug water for my plants.
@@judithmoore1176 awesome. Didn't think of that!
Great idea!!! I'm going to do that.
@@judithmoore1176 I do that too when I am going to use my dishwasher for my BETA fish water.
Widowed 1 yr ago. Raising teenage grandchild. Less than $900. a month. Period. I find so many money saving ideas on your videos. Thank you!
I learned this savings tip from a UA-cam couple but don't recall the channel. He did the math and personal research on all of their household electric items. He figured out the low level wattage each item used just for being plugged into the electrical socket was costing them almost $100 a year. Long story short, they unplugged items until they needed to use them. I have followed their example. Blessings to you.
@@krissyp7219 Might be Under the Median!
@@cherylT321 Yes, I think you are right. While I haven't been able to find that one electricity saving show I watched, I'm pretty sure you figured it out for me. Good job!
@@krissyp7219 👍
thats the you tube channel. inremeber seeing that video myself. nad being blown away. by his math skills. im terrible in math but its an rye opener.
I found out by accident that hydrogen peroxide is a fast grout cleaner. After I clean the floor then I drop a few drops and the grout and it does the work for you. I have a brush to push the liquid down the grout. It is the best discovery and a lot cheaper than tile cleaner. I have been doing this for a couple of years without any problem and people are amazed that my tile grout is so clean.
Thanks for the tip! I have some that needs cleaning.
I put my peroxide in a spray bottle with Dawn, and yes, it does a great job on grout!
How do you mop up the dirty water? I have a something that just pushes the dirty water in the grout and not strong enough to suck up the dirty water.
I'll be using your idea. I clean houses as a side job & sure could save time!
Will that work on a gross toilet
Oh, and instead of watering down shampoo, I just make sure my hair is really wet before applying a small amount of shampoo & spread it all over my head before lathering it up. Alternately I would dilute just the amount you want to use rather than the contents of the bottle, because germs & fungus can grow even in liquid soap or shampoo.
Yes. that's true!
A few years ago, the school sent my kids home with energy saving packets filled with light bulbs and water saving adapters for the showers and sinks. I had 3 kids in school at the time, so I got 3 sets. I am down to my last set of light bulbs!
Toothpaste tip / when you think you almost out cut the tube in half & open it up & you easily have enough for another 2 or 3 days
I use flannel cloth, cut into 4x4 pieces, and use for toilet paper (#1 only). Just toss into a container and wash with the laundry once a week. Saves tons of money.
🤢☠️
When young and broke, my clothes were washed beneath me as I showered. We called it twist and shout time! It worked wonderfully. You are not cheap, you are creative;)
I have a shut off on my shower head, I turn it on get wet, then off and lather, then on to rinse off, then get my hair wet , turn it off while I lather my hair, then on to rinse. I save so much in my propane by not heating water that just runs down the drain. I seek out sales on meats/seafood and stock up then, for 4-6 months worth of food. Fish and seafood are at a great price just before lent, and eggs before Easter, and chicken in fall, between Halloween and Christmas, as well as turkey.
To conserve water and/or save money on your water bill, do as prepper princess and plug your drain and use it to flush your toilets. The same applies to baths. Keep your bath water for flushing the toilet too.
For emergency preparedness, always keep several 18L water dispenser jugs filled for drinking water and then rotate them, so you always have back ups if shtf
There is a meme somewhere that says 'Dentistry is not expensive. Neglect is expensive!' No truer words have ever been said.
Rain water barrel is cheap and a must have for gardeners.
I live in a hard water area too - just leave vinegar in the sink overnight, either in the sink or soak a cloth in vinegar and lay it over the ring to saturate it overnight. it will dissolve the limescale. Distilled vinegar is cheap to buy. It will save you from scratching your sink with sandpaper.
Thank you. I knew there was a remedy but didn’t remember it. I love thé taste of hard water but it makes a mess. Isn’t it supposed to be good for us due to the minerals ?
I started using a bidet when I was living in Singapore, when I got back home I got one and put on my toilet, and it does SAVE on toilet paper big time!
It's good to watch people like you. I might not agree with everything that you do, but I can glean out what works for me. One of the best decisions I ever made was that when I got a new fridge, I kept the old one for storage and this has allowed me to buy when something is on sale. For example, last week smoked and cooked ham was on sale for $2.49 so I got two, one to package and freeze, the second to freeze for making sandwiches when warm weather is here and I eat a lot of sandwiches/wraps.
Back in my hippie days we put a brick in the toilet to save water, back in the late 60's/70's. Yes, while growing up, we always watered down our shampoo when we were lucky enough to have shampoo. We cut the side of the toothpaste open to get the last drop.....
I have a bar soap hack my dad taught me. Open all the bars of soap when you buy them to dry out and they last way longer.
My Mother believed and did the same thing. “The older it gets the longer it lasts.”
@@monarene44 wash cloth
My grandma would buy scented soaps ( probably Avon, back in the day) and take the paper off and stick them in the drawers to scent her clothes and harden the soap😉
With a basic knowledge of electricity, my boyfriend got our oven working again by changing the oven igniter. It saved at least $200, maybe more. The only cost was the part. Our propane BBQ went out. We found another better one on the side of the road. Cleaned it up. It works! It is amazing what you can find for free on the side of the road, particularly on the day before or on trash pickup day.
Expecially when you drive thru the rich subdivisions Christmas Day or day after, it’s how I furnished my home lol with curio cabinets and roll top desk, and head boards for our beds, and a hydraulic jack still in the box 😁 what’s trash or junk to them was a treasure to me
I have been encouraged by PP's sharing the joy of frugality (and giving). My version of the toothpaste tube tool is to use my toothbrush as a press, perpendicular to the bottom of toothpaste tube, towards the top. It's not like it's a life or death money-saving thing, but these little things add up to being not-in-debt, being able to save, and being able to share generously. I do volunteer tax prep and find that those who give are the most joyful---not because they started with more, but because their hearts are generous and free.
After consulting UA-cam, I was able to fix my dryer for $15 and install my own hot water heater, which I bought used for a small price. I had no idea how to do those things before.
I’ve done that too lol. 4 years ago my gas heater kept shutting off. I looked up on UA-cam and saw an HVAC tech and he showed where these little rods are, that have to be clean, in order for them to work. They get buildup on them. I learned to clean them and it worked perfect. I’ve done it for the last 4 years and saved a ton of money in calling someone out. It also always happened on a holiday or at night! So a huge win! I changed out a hot water heater too by myself. It took me all day but saved a lot of money.
Diluting products is not always safe when you do it ahead of time and let it sit around. The products are formulated to stop germs from growing because of their strength. Diluting should be done at the time of use. It’s also not a good idea to keep a plastic container going for years. It can begin to break down and leach into your products. Glass would be better.
That’s what I do with my mouth was. I fill up the cap half way with full strength mouthwash and then fill up the rest of the cap with water. That way my mouthwash stays safe.
@@MsKatalind That’s a perfect example of what I mean.
Before The dollar tree went up to 1.25, I went and bought enough liquid hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste etc to last me a year. I over estimated and still have enough into my second year.
I should buy bulk from dollar tree before it becomes the dollar fifty store
I did that too, only I bought enough for 5 years. Lol that might be enough until I die. Who knows.
Your ideas are so sensible. Thank you. I have to add that I live in New England and I use a small leaf blower to clean out the car, clear a light dusting of snow from walkway and car. Also, I use the small leaf blower to clean the cat hair from underneath furniture and then vac. it up.
When you started talking about having an electric toothbrush I was thinking "rechargeable batteries", then you said "rechargeable solar batteries"..I was like Aaah, always one step ahead of the game, I see. I mean technically if they're rechargeable batteries you're paying for the power, so solar is better..must look into that.
I cut my toothpaste open when you think it's empty, it's amazing how much is left in.
Found 2 small file cabinets with 3 drawers each for free - the same height as your nightstands/end tables. I have them at both sides of my bed. Use them as nightstands but also store my non-hanging clothes in them (pants, sweaters, underwear, socks, etc.). They serve more than one purpose, I don’t have to have a big bulky dresser, and everyone who sees them thinks they’re cool!♥️
@PrepperPrincess. For hardwater stains, I use undiluted vinegar. For toilet bowl (anything above the water), I take a folded paper towel and place it in a bowl containing vinegar and then pat it on over and under the rim and repeat until the whole circle is covered. Leave it on for about 10 minutes or more as the vinegar breaks up the layer of hard water. For sinks or vertical surfaces (mirrors or glass doors) use undiluted vinegar mixed with dish detergent. The thickness or soapiness of the dish detergent prevents gravity from taking the mixture to the bottom. Let it soak on for 10 or more minutes. If not all came off, just a little wiping will take it off. No padding of . soaked paper towels onto vertical surfaces is necessary, the soap does that job. For a toilet bowl, about half a cup of vinegar may be enough to soak all the paper towels in a little plastic bowl and for the other jobs about 1 teaspoon of dish detergent. If your sinks and tubs are porcelain, scrub with Ajax or Comet. That is all our family ever did and 54 years later, they were still white and shiny except after about 45 years, the bottom of the kitchen sink started showing the black iron which is probably due to all the metal pots and pans scraping the bottom.
Can you do a video on the tips your realtor gave you for decorating?
Sure
Your are such an inspiration to me. I've followed your channel for years now, got divorced a couple years ago and had to figure out how to do the things my ex husband took care of. I live on a small farm in Indiana, and it's a lot to maintain, but I've learned how to take care of most thing. Maintaining vehicles, ATV, mowers along with most home improvements(thanks to UA-cam). I still have a ways to go. I'd love to learn some electrical and replace a toilet!!😃
Thanks for the videos!! This has been such a helpful channel to me as well🙂
What an amazing woman you are! Could you recruit people from your local church to help?
@@lindaschwartz5836 Thank you!💕 And no, I would never ask for help and use people's time for myself. I had the choice, to keep or sell my 10acre home when he left, and I decided to stay but I knew that meant I would have to take care of it alone. I'm lucky to still have my dad to ask for advice or if I can't figure something out, he will come and help, but I always try to do it myself and it's amazing what you learn to do yourself when you have to. My ex-husband was an amazing handyman, so it's big shoes to fill, but I'll never depend on another person again. If ever the day comes I can't take care of it myself, I will sell.
Your husband is a rat but you are a real life success story!
let a cup of boiled water and half a cup of vinegar soak in the bottom of your sink for a couple hours, wipe and rinse. Sandpaper will scratch the finish on your enamel and cause it to erode.
Bar Keepers Friend works great, too.
Rain water has much more nitrogen than tap water. House and patio plants love it.
Place napkin, or toilet paper over the ring in your sink. Drip bleach,or vinegar on to the paper. Keep wet for 30 minutes or longer. The longer the better. Another trick is to scrub brightening toothpaste into the stain an let it dry. The longer the better. Then scrub off. Repeat until stain is gone.
I like the toothpaste bottles better than the tubes, but you get a lot more toothpaste for your money from the tubes. I saw a hack somewhere about a year ago that showed how you can easily pop the lid off of those toothpaste bottles. That was a game changer for me, because I just refill them with toothpaste from the tube now.
Do you have a video on expiration dates of foods, especially oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, flour, canned foods etc? How did you learn to repair things? UA-cam? Books? Trial & Error?
I used one of your suggestions of buying a quart of milk and pouring some out into another container and then adding water to both. My daughter didn’t notice so I’ll be doing that for now on!! Easy win.
I have 2 electric toothbrushes........one for my teeth and the other I use for cleaning stains from the sink, tiles etc......when the brush head needs replacing on the teeth one, I then use it on the cleaning one
I got a bidet but I haven’t hooked it up yet. I avoid handiwork, but I shouldn’t. It’s my new years goal. I am doing everything you do from here on out. You can add peroxide to your mouthwash and it saves money and kills germs.
If you have a community College near you, most dental hygiene students look for patients to clean and x ray for around 5-10 bucks and some even do fillings and crowns. It helps your community and saves your wallet :)
Great tips! The older I get the more anxious i get about trying to do big projects alone. Thanks for the encouragement!
Tell that 6th family member to being their own towel!🤣🤣🤣
another way to make your bar soap last weeks longer is to unwrap it when you get it home. This allows the soap to 'cure' which dries it out and it lasts longer.
I am trying this out now with my stash of Ivory soap.
I have been “felting” my soap for a few years now. Google it; it has been great especially when I got the hang of it.
I mix toothpaste 50/50 with baking soda - it is neutralizes acid and it better toothpaste.
You can use less water in a toilet for Zero cost , by placing one or more bricks where they won't interfere with flushing.,(just open the top & watch). The best part is pressure from the unaltered water level will still be there as if no water saving method was used..Repetitive costs are often overlooked {like $50.on your phone internet bill) ,at the end of the year this will pay your house insurance!
When I was a kid, everyone threw their dish water on the gardens or flower beds. Also, several kids would share bath water.
We had to drain our water heater, recently. I asked for the water to be drained in my buckets, so I had plenty of water for my plants and flowers, and small garden😊
Big reduced price shopper here. Cheap bananas make great dehydrated snacks. Love our Berkey as well. We have a small fridge too (all fridge). I miss having a twin tub…we had one overseas…ours was bigger though.
I was using an electric toothbrush but then was told by dentist that it was actually starting to brush off my tooth enamel. Now I just use a soft toothbrush. Just something to be wary of.
I was told by my dentist it’s not the brush but abrasive toothpaste that takes the enamel off. Anything with baking soda will start taking off the enamel so I only use gel type toothpaste
I forgot to say I love how your bedroom turned out. The picture is gorgeous. As for the tv in the living room just put a tall vase next to it to visually balance the spot.
So beautifully decorated !
It seems generous of you to share these personal tips, it seems to me. I do some of these but I wouldn’t ever tell anyone unless I live with them, because people really do think you’re crazy when you tell people. I like the ones that I didn’t know about or think of. It’s and it’s also encouraging when you carry on like this, so that I can continue to carry on like that. Thanks
I know, I keep a bucket in the bathroom to catch the first clean water that comes out of the shower to later flush the toilet and I wouldn't usually tell anyone cause they would think I'm weird😆
@Tessa Shay I totally agree, it is funny how so many frugal and minimalist videos are done by "smart" twenty somethings (not the case of PP, she is the real deal) that just tell me to do what I have done all my life...I .used to be" cheap", now I am eco friendly.....😅😅😅. My goal is to be a crazy old lady but now I will have to try harder 😎
Oh PREPPER PRINCESS you are a person wiser than her years. Being able to save like you do would be destroyed by more feet living in the house. My family acted like they didn't hear me. I would remove light bulbs turn breakers off. Wouldn't wash all the clothes that may have on the floor. Did dishes once a day.
We use vinegar for hard water stains. I soak rags in white vinegar and lay them on the discolored areas. Just sayin..
Hi Prepper Princess! Love your videos and all your money saving ideas. I'm from Arizona too and my two favorite things to do is putting various solar lights outside the house which makes the property look nice and hanging my clothes to dry outside. I'm always conserving water too and like your idea about saving the shower water.
You are amazing! I live in rural SA and I live exactly like this. I could easily waste but I don't. I am a self-certified cheap skate who refuses to pay anything full price. I will buy reduced or negotiate my lungs out and I win negotiations. I homeschool for WAY less my child is getting a very private and advanced education for close to NOTHING and we get to travel and visit friends and live our lives. We make fire and take in warm coal it warms the house all night for nothing. I could go on and on ..oh and we have your portable machine but ours is bigger and we use the water to flush the toilet because we live in South Africa and water here is scarce we even have water shedding. I learn a lot from you
Thanks for all the tips!
In the 70's we had a clothes washer that had two water emptying hoses, one drained the soapy water down a tube into the tub drain and blocked the drain from emptying the rinse water that came out the 2nd hose. Then then next load you would suck up the rinse water to wash the next load. Can't figure out why they don't bring those back?!?! ESPECIALY NOW!
You should try making your own soap! Costs about fifty CENTS a bar. Only bought one tool - a stick blender - at BB&B going out of business sale for $15. Ingredients are from discount store and hardware store (lye). Molds can be anything silicone, small shipping boxes (lined with parchment) or even cardboard milk cartons. You can make luxury soaps ( I make clay and oatmeal soaps for my skin) and some specifically for hair washing too!
Learn to sew! (You woulda learned how in the service, altho by hand...) You can pickup a machine cheap at resale, make new or alter clothes (from resale clothes!) You can recover furniture, make curtains, bedding (I'm a quilter...)
Can you give us the recipe to make soap?
Becky at acre homestead is a dental hygienist. Her dentist she works for, told her all toothpaste is whitening , and it has to be she said ,and she said by the cheapest which is pepsodent ,which has been around since early 1900s ..usually 97 cents ..may be a little higher now
Girl! You always have the best money saving tips!!! Love your channel! Thanks for sharing!
Cube everything with cubed onions and potatoes add spices. Mix gravy mix with 2.5 cups water and bake on 375 or 400. Add a roll and vegetable like peas or green beans. Saves on sides, meat, time, planning, dishes. A win win
When my toothpaste gets low, I cut the tube in half or even thirds and stick the brush in and scrape the inside. It might give me 5-6 more brushing. Even if it is a little dried out, it still does the job.
I do the same thing with anything that comes in a tube
Hi from Cape Town South Africa! Yes we did all that during a bad drought
I also got one of those toothpaste things after I saw your video years ago. I paid 29 cents for two. I kept one and gifted one. We have really soft water so I don't use any shampoo or conditioner. If my hair needs conditioning I use a few drops of argan oil. My hair has never been healthier. Good video!
Good advise, I will try next time when washed my hair
My sister has something similar to your portable washer dryer for her 1 bedroom manufactured home. Instead of the two compartments it's an all in one in one compartment. She loves it.
Excellent video. I always enjoy your money saving tips. We Implement quite a few of them but it's always nice to learn more. Thanks so much you're doing a fantastic job!
Brilliant ! I am impressed ! Thank you for sharing ! Beautiful decorating !
I have learned so much from you over the years. Thank you so much.
I like these videos! i get so pumped when I see saving videos like this!
Bar keeper friend it’s a cleanser it will take that rust right out of your sink😊
Thank you for the reminder of watering down hair care products. I keep forgetting. My scalp is sensitive and it helps a lot with that ❤️
I cut my toothpaste and cream tubes open at the end and get several more days out of it (cut so that the butt end of the tube can fit as a "hat" over the opening to keep the liquid dry for a few days ... i also switched to turkish towels (fouta) .. they are lightweight for travel, dry fast, take up no space, can be used as a scarf and picnic blanket !
I mix my mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide, a tip my niece gave me. Works wonders! I buy my shampoo in bar form. It will last me a good year or more. I have started to let my hair air dry instead of using the blow dryer. It helps that my hair is short!!
I use hydrogen peroxide (3%) liquid too! It even has directions on the bottle as to how much to dilute (1tbsp for 1 cup) with water for using as a mouthwash and it comes out way cheaper than store mouthwashes. The store ones are just too intense, it's not a pleasant experience...
I really enjoyed this video. I love the clean minimal look.
Big score on that coffee! I find it at $5 w/20% oh on senior day!
Amazon prime, you can cancel your free trial before the end date and the free trial will continue for the full period (I just cancelled it early and it went on for the full month).
The area in NC where I'm at has hard water as well. I have learned from your saving hacks for years and it really does save, thank you for everything you do to help us to save money! 💜
Thank u for making these videos...😊
Instead of buying a Berkey, I made my own filtering sytem.. I bought 2 5gallon food grade buckets and placed them on top of each other. I drilled 2 holes the size of the Berkey filter nozzle and bought a set of filters to insert in the holes i then added a water tap to the bottom bucket. Works great and for a fraction of the cost.
Thanks to you I ended up with a peri bottle. I couldn't afford an actual bidet or bidet attachment or battery operated handheld bidet...I kept thinking and ended up with a peri bottle that you simply fill and squeeze! Only $10! I love it!
For those who think it's not sanitary...yeah right! When you wipe liquid with a dry crumbly toilet paper you are leaving a film of 'liquid' on you..I love getting all of it off me.
You never cease to amaze ( and encourage) me! 👏👏👏
Great tips! Can't wait to see you and your puppy ride!!💕🐾🇺🇲
Old school was putting bricks in the toilet tank to displace water while still keeping the water level high for more effectiveness. Hardware store pool acid can remove those iron stains without sanding.
I love all your suggestions!.
Hello from Alaska. I have the same washing machine as yours. Living in remote Alaska off grid with it makes life so much easier.
Love your videos. Keep'em coming.
Your home looks so cozy I love it
Bar Keepers Friend will remove those hard water stains with a small amount. It's $2.00 at Walmart. I shop with digital coupons at Walgreens, I get many items for free or very cheap.
I love to coupon at Walgreens! I haven’t paid for toothbrushes or toothpaste in a couple of years and now I won’t pick them up unless it’s a moneymaker which happens often. Most of my shampoo and conditioner is free as well after coupons and whatnot.
Just a suggestion: put a large fake plant or wall hanging or macrame plant hanger from the ceiling in front of the plug next to your tv. It would look a little better. Just a suggestion! I know you’re minimalist though.
Fun to watch! Thank you for the great info!
Thank you for the tips, I always enjoy your videos.
Yes I loved the Sandra Bullock film
i love your videos, so encouraging, thanks.
I actually think foam soap lasts longer than the bar for me for hand soap. What I do is I have foam I purchase or gifted and I will either put 1/4 into my foam soap dispenser and add water to the rest and it still cleans just as well. Or I have Castile soap and I make my own foam soap with it.
What ratio of soap to water do you use to make the foaming soap?
@Onyx D’Castro thanks for the reply, not sure what you mean by "cover the surface"? a teaspoon of soap?
@Onyx D’Castro makes sense now, thank you!
You did an amazing job!! I love ❤️ you and your videos!! Blessings from Kentucky 🐎🐎🐎
I'm cracking up at 17:21. Lol. You are too funny!
Thank you prepper princess. I always take all of your advice , I am going to take it slow but I have money saving goals . You are amazing.
Thank you Prepper Princess!
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
Love that toothpaste saving thingy! Very cool! Great share!
I love the mention of the 2nd hand animals obtained 😍
I bought a shower head on a hose that is used in RV's. It has a button you push to stop the water. I rinse, stop water, soap up, turn on water to rinse. We are on shallow well so water conservation is a must. The first year I moved here, we ran out of water in July. I also have 2-330 gallon food grade IBC totes to collect rain water for drinking and my poultry. Our well water has 1595 ppm of minerals so not great to drink.
Very well done with your water! Very inspiring.
I love the water conservation tips in this video. And I also like seeing the Espin Nesta, really want one of those.
I'm definitely trying the leaf blower in my car, brilliant idea 💡
