Eileen OG The song is written by Percy French. "Eileen Og" means "young Eileen". The place name was Petrovogue or Petravore?. It is believed that French made up the name. However, "Pedar a Voher" is on an Ordnance Map of 1836. Pedar is Peter in Irish. I found this piece of info. Hope it helps!
fantastic Eileen Oge, an' that's the darlin's name is; Through the barony her features they were famous. If we loved her, who is there to blame us For wasn't she the Pride of Petravore? But her beauty made us all so shy; Not a man could look her in the eye. Boys, O, boys! Sure that's the reason why We're in mournin' for the Pride of Petravore. Chorus: Eileen Oge, me heart is growin' grey, Ever since the day you wandered far away. Eileen Oge, there's good fish in the sea, But there's no one like the Pride of Petravore. Friday at the fair in Ballintubber, Eileen met McGrath the cattle jobber. I'd like to set me mark upon the robber For he stole away the Pride of Petravore. He never seemed to see the girl at all, Even when she ogled him from underneath her shawl, Lookin' big and masterful when she was meek and small, Most provokin' for the Pride of Petravore. Chorus So it went as it was in the beginning, Eileen Oge was bent upon the winning; Big McGrath contentedly was grinning, Being courted by the Pride of Petravore. Says he, “I know a girl that would knock you into fits.” At that Eileen nearly lost her wits; The upshot of the ruction is that now the robber sits With his arm around the Pride of Petravore. Chorus Boys, O, boys! With fate 'tis hard to grapple; Of my eye 'tis Eileen was the apple, And now to see her walkin' to the chappel With the hardest featured man in Petravore. And now boys this is all I have to say, When you do your courtin' make no display; If you want them to run after you just walk the other way For they're mostly like the Pride of Petravore. Chorus
Gorgeous take on this tune. I seem to remember hearing someone sing lyrics to this tune in a folk club some time back. Anyone know what they might have been?
Do you have reference or sheet music for your backing or do you come up with it yourself? If you do come up with it by your self how do you know what chords to go where?
I sit down with my guitar and work the chords out as I play along with the main fiddle solo melody. I've done the chord and backing arrangements for my band for years, so it has become second nature.

This is often messed up, this is most certainly not messed up, remarkable version.
Very good swing, which would easily be followed by the King of the Fairies...
In these strange, upside-down times, your music is so beautifully comforting.

With his arm around the Pride of Petravore.

Of my eye 'tis Eileen was the apple,
And now to see her walkin' to the chappel
With the hardest featured man in Petravore.

When you do your courtin' make no display;
If you want them to run after you just walk the other way
For they're mostly like the Pride of Petravore.
