As a license Master cosmetologist of 30 years, I approve of this message... The example you gave of the lady with braids causing traction Alopecia, is what happened with Stevie Wonder.. His braids were starting at the middle of his head...So sad because he had a stylist who wasn't educated or someone that"s just interested in getting paid... This is good info!!!!!!

I'm dealing with the impacts of tight braids with the results ending in CCCA from the many years of wearing sew ins. My middle section is VERY thin almost nonexistence but I can't even blame the beautician I had at the time b/c I should have known better and the fact it's my hair and responsibility to take care of MY hair. I know she saw it but she also saw that money I was giving as well...hard lesson to learn. People please listen to her...she is RIGHT!!! Thanks for educating folks.

3:42 wow 😮 this explains why I have breakage in this area. Fortunately it has grown a lot since I discontinued the lace wigs, Fulani braids, and twists with extensions. Also the bun style. I’m prior military and that was my constant style. I and many women suffered receding hairlines because of how slick and taut the hair is required to be.
My hair seems too fine for the so called protective styles.

-Sleep on silk or satin pillowcases to avoid any friction to the hair that could cause frizz
-The pillowcases help keep hair smooth by maintaining moisture to the hair
-You can wrap the hair with a paddle brush or light tension when wrapping. Try not to smooth too tightly and wear a silk or satin scarf. I hope this advice is helpful.

I’m at an awkward length on my natural hair journey and it’s 4c. It’s nice and fluffy but crochet almost took my edges out. It’s been months since I had that hairstyle. However my edges grew back but it hurts to do any hairstyle.

Yes, unfortunately locs could cause Traction Alopecia if they are maintained too tightly. The tension from the constant twisting and pulling of the hair damages hair follicles which then lead to hair loss. Hopefully 🙏 I answered your questions. Thank you so much for reaching out! ❤️

Lesson I learned personally is that high tension coils not to be mistook for small coils, are not to be manipulated AT ALL.. What's not tight and doesn't hurt you IS hurting your follicles. The follicles are weaker and smaller for these fine most ribbon like strands. Haircuts loosley not to the root locks or free form only. No combing no braiding. Its also too fine for heat like bacon vs. steak it cooks faster. This hair unlike other types leaves the salon full of smoke no heat protectant or product will protect this hair, nor conditioner. It does not respond to any store brought priducts anyway which is marketed for basic blk hair. Note what youtubers are calling tightly coiled hair is not the same as what I'm talking about. This is just what they know of based on their community. The hair Im talking about is extremely rare to us in America and rare in those of west African descent or in most of Africa. Professional stylist won't honestly tell u no and when they do we get offended.

@@anjirichards8377 coils that are completely collapsed, not shrunk. That grow into a dense coagulated low pile. Coils that don't succumb to gravity when moisturized wet, at 14 inches it remains at a half of an inch, because it spirals like a cinnabun not vertically. The coils don't change form or respond to products, they are damaged by manipulation and that resist manipulation and styling. They are so perfect that the hair never tangles and doesn't need to be combed it appeared matted but it's just tight. Combing high tension coils crack the strands and causes splitting. The coils irritate the scalp because the tension makes it constantly be pulling out of the braids that are done loosely. The more moisturized the more it shrinks.

Hi, I was thinking about getting passion twisted braids. Do you suggest I get my hair relaxed and wait two weeks before I get them or go ahead and get them now while I have enough new growth.

@@mrscutiepie3 I would say get the braids with the current new growth. Having freshly relaxed hair could be fragile and if braids are kept up too long it could cause breakage or damage.

Men go bald & they dont wear wigs, weaves or braided. It ain't the wigs or .braids . Hair grows w/n from your body & has a life cycle. As u get older that hair growth life deminshishes.A lot of women xperience thinning hair lost when they've never worn wigs. Hair follicles eventually die. that's why men go bald & some women xperience alopecia. This is the prblm of ppl on social media who have no education n the theory of hair. its just a bunch OF BS. There is nothing u can put topical on your hair 2 make it grow.all this does is protec the hair u already have.
