I firmly believe Chengling and Gu-Xiang are Wenzhou's familial soulmates 😭 here in our place soulmates can be categorized in a variety of different types. Familial, romantic, karmaic are just a few of them.
At first i believed Chengling was just lucky to find them, but the line that really showed me that Chengling was a part of their soulmate circle was in that one episode. He said "Master, I'd rather die with you than live alone" same with Gu-Xiang when she said "Then i'd go with you even if you go crazy"
Sorry to ask but what is karmaic soulmate? It seem as an interesting concept but I never had listen someone talk about soulmate this way

Exactly my thoughts watching this for the first time. Wenzhou, I saw. Chengling and Zishou, I saw. Wen Kexing and Gu Xiang, I saw. AGu Xiang and Wei Ning, I saw. But I never considered them all together.
I imagine Ah-Xu singing this to Lao Wen and Chengling. They really are his chosen family. Especially the line “we don’t need to be related to relate, we don’t need to share a surname” because family should be about the bond between its members, chosen or by blood but especially in a chosen family, where the members don’t share a common surname but the bond is still evident, almost mirroring that of a family built by blood
