To be honest I couldn't stop laughing when it happened, I was like "yes I get it Mr. Director- they are cutsleeves!!!!", the show even did it twice. It's interesting seeing what people who don't know the reference thought about it 😅
I am maybe getting the impression that it is not homosexuality as a subject that is censored, but the depiction of it. After all, it is common knowledge and acceptance that there were also such preferences in chinese history. As all these BL dramas showed, you don't need to see strip shows or sexual action or foul language to get all excited about what they mean. I thoroughly enjoyed your clarification n breaking down of the poetries. It just brought so much more depth to this drama. It made me understood more what's WKX emotional revelation n state of mind in those episodes. How clever of Priest to use poems to express emotions in the narratives, even managed to make sexual advances of WKX so elegant. The innuendos only fueled our imagination. 😆 GJ portrays the romantic dandy of WKX so well even wth his colourful clothings. Aahh the simple gesture of flipping his fan is impactful enhancing charms of WKS character too. I love his fan! 😍 ZZS stands no chance with onslaught of such attention n charms. ☺️ The distinction btwn WKS n ZZS is well defined portrayed so well by GJ n ZZH that we too can't help but takes preferences of respective personalities based on our feelings drawn out by these 2 characters. I'm still not over the back that WKX actually cuts ZZS's sleeve. While something like that happened in the novel, my jaw dropped when I saw that in the show.
Knowing exactly what WKX is saying when he's being poetic is super cool, but this vid is also making me want to go out and get a book of Chinese poetry. It all sounds so unique and beautiful!
Thanks so much for this! I went to two years of primary school in China so have very little understanding of Chinese poetry. I understand the general references but learning about the true meaning behind everything makes the script even more moving. Having read the novel as well, I think the scriptwriter has done an awesome job in adapting the story. Can’t get enough of this drama (and both of the leads)! So glad I got addicted 3 days into its broadcasting!!! Hoping the end will be good also!

This drama just made perfect move by picking the Best script writer...
What is this drama’s name please?
@@miahwy4607 it is Word of Honor. It is available on youtube. It has 36 eps, but Youku only released 15 eps so far (with engsub). They will upload 3 eps/weeks.
Thank you I’ll give it a try
@@miahwy4607 please do! Even if you are not BL fans.. It is really so damn good drama! Their acting is so exceptional.. Especially Wen Ke Xing. The micro expression & their interactions are so natural & well balanced. Oh their costume is also so beautiful
@@linalin471 the only bl I watched was the untamed and I loved it can’t move on
That broken sleeve perplexed me when I watched that episode. I was waiting for anything important in the story that will connect to that piece of cloth because they somehow highlighted it onscreen. Little did I know... Better yet, I know nothing. haha
Hahaha...I imagined you taking note of that piece of cloth as an important plot point and it's too funny.
And frankly speaking, I must say I find this way even more interesting and elegant. And certainly educational. Hahaha. Unless the people who work in the Censor Office are all "uneducated" , they must surely understand everything AVX has described.
@@jivvyjack7723 I agree- I very much doubt that they didn't get the references. As long as it's not explicit, I think they're happy to turn a blind eye to certain things, particularly if they think it's going to make money, which is good for the economy.
@@celinahatton2653 key words there being "certain things" - it's like the Hays Code in Hollywood, some things are shocking because they got through, and others are shocking because they *didn't*, but it's all full of plausible deniability.
So many beautifull poetry references, hidden meanings that we as international viewers can learn from your explanation dear..this drama and you make us learn more about chinese literature, culture and tradition..I'd say bravissimo for the writer and script writer who brilliantly put all together not only literature but writing style, and story telling , also the director who executed the storyline, and two handsome Male Lead ( really a feast to the eye ) all combine together making such a Great Drama to watch ...Kudos to all...Xie Xie Ni AvenueX
This is the kind of education we all want.
Chinese poems are so beautiful, I almost cry hearing you translate them ❤️
I thoroughly enjoyed your clarification n breaking down of the poetries.
I m a romantic n all these poetries just adds to the draws of why I love WOH besides the awesome cuteness of the ML.😍
Thank you AX .. you've just made some of us who appreciates culture, folklore n poetries appreciate the richness of ancient chinese poems n of course WOH.😍😍😍😘🌹
This video will age beautifully like wine.. everytime you see a reference of any poem mentioned in this video, you will want to re-watch to refresh your memory.
This scriptwriter is really too amazing, they did such a great job at handling the Drama plot.
He’s the most talented person in the universe. 🤩
Understanding the story behind the poem makes the scene on the bridge even more heartbreaking for WKX...T-T
the feeling of like, just nice missing each other
I felt Wen Kexing was flirting very elegantly, but you have opened my eyes to so so many wonderful details. Thank you!
I really think you may consider having a project/course to teach Chinese. I will enroll immediately as you have always shown great sense of intellectual skills with a breath of elegant simplicity in all your videos since Nirvana in Fire time. Thank you for your great effort and passion!
I'm still not over the back that WKX actually cuts ZZS's sleeve. While something like that happened in the novel, my jaw dropped when I saw that in the show.
I am learning Chinese and this video is a masterclass! I will share it with my classmates and teacher! 谢谢
All these details are wonderful icing on the cake for this drama! Your outfits are the cherry on top haha ♡
If only there will be a video release from you on WOH every week to keep international audiences from dying during the wait for new episodes every week. 😭 Thank you for this!!!
Priest and the scriptwriter are so brilliant that'a why this drama is really a masterpiece. 🥺💙✨
Wow, for international fans who fell in love with Word of Honor it is almost a must to go through your channel, you did an incredible job punctuating some clarifications about the drama and charms about the literature of Chinese poems. With that we understand the story better and characters them. Thanks to your explanations I am more and more impressed with the series, the screenwriter and the whole team. Because the characters and actors had already won me over. lol 😍 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I instantly feel more educated after this video 😎 有点
So glad I can watch WoH related stuff when there’s no episode😭
Ps. Don’t forget to sing wo ai ni wuhuuuuuu today!
How beautiful there are SO MANY famous poems 🙊
This is amazing how the poetry could mold such innocent action into so much more. I love it! Thank you for sharing with us these tidbits.
Thank you so much for making this video, it's so nice to get the full meanings and references to all of the wonderful prose WKX speaks as a non-Chinese speaker ❤️
the pain of not knowing Chinese and Chinese literature, but thanks to AvenueX i can also know!
I love that Wen Kexing flaunts his knowledge
Thank you so much for this! I just finished watching word of honor and your video really made me fall in love with that story even more!! 🥰 The poems are so beautiful!!!
I literally think I'm gonna go take a chinese history class after this, this is SO INTERESTING, The stuff about Yue Fei and Qing Hui, I just love this omg.
您的解說與分析太精闢了!我這才發現自己miss掉這麼多關鍵細節。世界上恐怕也只有中國人才能在任何情境下都來個幾句詩,巧妙地運用在明喻或暗示。您的內容真的「寓教於樂」,Bravo~!
Thank you for teaching me about the wonderful world of blatant flirting 👊😁
This made me Love the Drama more. I was blushing for the most part LOL! ... I think I'll watch it again in the near future. Thank you for explaining! My heart breaks for them still and sad it ended, but I'm so happy to have been able to experience their Honest to God Love!!!🤧
I’m really enjoying this drama so far, I can’t picture this drama with the original male leads 😀
Lao Wen is the master of flirting in this series.
Ooh! Thank you so much for explaining all the poem references! 🙏 This aspect of using poems and idioms in the original novels and their drama adaptations is such a treat to understand! Also shows just how much the original author and the script writer have read literature to be able to weave such apt poem references everywhere in the novel/drama.
Very much looking forward to your explanations of poem and idiom references for the remainder of this drama. 😄🙏
Thank you so much for this!!!! One of the saddest parts of watching shl as a nonnative speaker is knowing how very many of these references are going over my head (though even I flipped out over wkx LITERALLY CUTTING ZZS’S SLEEVE OMFG)
Thanks for deepening my experience of this delightful show ❤️
I love the use of poetry that just highlights what kind of background WKX comes from, its a very good character exposition and gives his character depth. I will def be looking up all these references and looking forward to more so thank you much !! Also, you look amazing in this video esp with the hair accessories.
I loved this video!! This really shows the depth and beautiful meaning behind the script and original text. I love that this has so much depth vs just a simple story. Mandarin has so much depth and beautiful stories behind the phrases. I can’t help but fall in love with the culture and language I see portrayed in Dramas.
I am on episode 4 now and I absolutely love Wen Kexing and how shameless he is with the flirting lol. Also, thank you for the explanation of cutsleeve -- someone was kind enough to place an explanation in the subtitles of The General and I, but you rarely see it explained.
Than you so much for these kinds of videos, i actually have a whole folder with screenshots of idioms used in Chinese dramas as i find them so fascinating, to now be able to sneak a peek in the poetry references is like a feast for my soul! I realized halfway through the video that i clicked "like" before even watching this, i just wish i could like it 10x more ^.^
Now I want a version of all the episodes with full-on subs with commentaries on each poem and quotation😆 All the references are really amazing, thank you for your work
I just love them period. My favorite couple. Wen always the doting hubby and Ah-xu the blushing wife. The way he loves him🥰😍🥰
OMG, I actually screamed when the sleeve-cutting thing happened. 😂 For the rest of the references, I always come back here whenever a week has passed after international episodes are released. Very helpful in understanding intimate in-jokes between those two.
OMG I've been waiting for this!!! Thank you for saving my day! xx
I never expected watch a bl wuxia recommended by my friend would lead myself to this educate channel
Now I know why it has over 8.8% ratings. Dude, the hidden details, the poems, and all references are very much well used. WOW!
For us who doesn’t know about the metaphorical actions, no censorship at all.
Before I happened to see reviews what i felt is just pure brotherly love.
I love the costumes 🤗🤗🤗 it adds historical vibes to the videos 😍😍😍 it's like cherry on top (for me) on this channel 🥳🥳🥳
Appreciate your efforts for dressing up 👘♥️🍀
Even though I'm chinese and can roughly make up the meaning of the literature/poetry references. The video covered more in depth and I'm so intrigued rn!! Now I regret not learning it better XD
I really like what you said about zhi yin and how it can be loosely translated to soul mates, while actually meaning to fully understand each other. A lot of stories out there use the term soul mate in a romantic meaning, but if you think about it, a soul mate is simply someone who completes you, whether that is through romantic love, true friendship or complete understanding
I'm Italian and I often watch your videos using the automatic translator.
I find your videos very interesting especially because you always give that extra curiosity. I have been following Chinese dramas for more than 7 years but there is always something to learn xD
Thanks for entering the CCs so that I can follow you. good job
WOH gives me laughs, love, tears and more AvenueX cultre videos now?? This drama is life
Thank you so much for all of your hard work making these videos!!! It's so frustrating to know they are reciting poetry but not understand what it means or is referencing, thank you for helping us!
Everything needs a motivation. Now my motivation to learn chinese literature/poetry is watching and reading chinese drama/novel 😂😂. Now I'm getting more and more interested in Chinese poetry. I've learned a lot. Thanks loaded for your explanations.
You provided a whole new understanding of this drama which is really appreciated
Ah I can’t thank you enough for these interpreting ancient poetry videos! Love them and taking notes on all! I want to take your masterclass. I’m so grateful someone like me who has only basic elementary school Chinese can get a taste of the richness of Chinese language and culture. You inspire me a lot to learn more for 精神享受。 seriously a ray of sunshine in a dull grey COVID winter. Thank you!!!
as someone who’s such a literary nerd i love you taking the time to explain all these beautiful references that have been plaguing my mind since i started watching this drama. it’s makes so much more enjoyable knowing the context. can’t wait for the updated ones 💖
Thank you for explaining the poetry references. I knew Wen KeXing’s character is flirtatious but I didn’t know it was to such extend. Also, the flat breads and cutting of the sleeve references are funny and interesting. I learnt something new 😂
This was so fascinating! I stumbled upon your channel by accident, but I can’t wait to watch more of your videos! Thank you for taking the time to explain all of the lovely poetry and lines in the drama for us, you have a beautiful speaking voice as well 🥰
Wow... thanks for this! This has so many references! With this I am pretty certain the China natives would be so impressed by the amount of subtext/ easter eggs sprinkled through out the shows. I only got the 'you tiao' reference!
Thank you for making our lives easier with all these explanations. Now we can relate and appreciate it better when watching.
Watching this again in 2023, how I wish there is another drama which can make me feel this excited, or see you this thrilled about a drama
Wow.. Thanks for putting it in simple words. I want to watch the series again after understanding the deep meaning behind the poems and actions. The flat bread one blew my mind. Also thanks for adding stories such as sleeve cutting etc that adds a lot of perspective to someone who is new to the Chinese culture.
