Cinderella never went to the ball for a prince, she went because she wanted to have fun and get out of her stepmother’s house even if it was just for one night.
She didn't even know the person she danced with was the prince until the next day when her stepmother told them the news about the prince looking for her.
Similar to the original story of “The Little Mermaid.” The mermaid was never interested in getting a man, she wanted to become human to get a soul and have eternal existence in Heaven. Marrying the Prince was how she was going to get a soul.
All I can see in front of me is the live action Belle (Emma Watson) turning into hermione after the polyjuice potion turned her into a cat - human hybrid 😂😂😂
People are forgetting. Being a girl boss doesn't mean you can't be girly. You can wear dresses and care about what you wear and everything and still be a girl boss.
Whoa. I'd heard this once or twice on mainstream radio, but couldn't tell exactly what the lyrics were and didn't know who it was by. Finally found it tonight. Mama is shook 😍
This song means the world to me. I’ve been playing it for my daughters. Because even though we love Disney movies - it needs to be known that NO woman needs ANY man to do anything! And no one should ever settle for less! Women are strong. We are powerful. We give life. We can do anything. Never let a man bring you down!
I can agree with that as a woman myself. However I think that needing help from a lover whether man or woman or a friend just the same is perfectly okay and very justified.
I just want to thank you for making music my 11 year old can listen to that will empower her, and also for helping heal my inner 11 year old that needed these songs more than you know.
I just found this song. It helped me validate me being uninterested in romantic relationships, all my life being pressured to aspire that but never feeling right.
This is the sort of empowerment I wish we had years ago! You’re wonderful and I’m excited for little girls to hear these versions of princess stories. When you shared how your grandma updated the story of Cinderella I got emotional. I also love the line “don’t call me baby, equal pay me”
I don't see it as empowerment, its a grown woman, singing about sleeping around! And we call this a children's song?! It also talks about gay relationships, and burning down things because of anger. This is sending the wrong messages to our kids.
@@Joyaplayscod exactly!! Like, I dont understand what more people could want! Its already so feministic, but somehow they find a way to make it even more!

JAX, you inspired me to write my own songs. I am going to a recording studio to record the songs I made. I want you to know I was so inspired by you because you don't care about what other people think about your songs, you only care about the meaning behind them. Thank you!
I'm obsessed with it. There's a lot of songs that talk about this argument but you, you gave a whole different version of this. I mean this song is powerful, has a good rhythm, is catchy, is beautiful. And the rapped part... gorgeous. Love it ❤️
that is true, it makes for a wonderful story in its own right. I still don't understand why she implies that the prince stole her shoe (waiting for a boy to give back her shoe), that the prince cheated on her with her stepsister(s) every weekend, and that she's a CEO but wants equal pay (really!!??!?! since when does a CEO want equal pay?). Oh yeah, and last I checked, cheating is most absolutely not treason. Rapunzel? A woman with hair like that would die before shaving it. No? Sure about that? Pretty sure she wanted that guy in her tower. Disagree? Maybe we are talking about someone else's story, Sleeping Beauty sues the guy who wakes her from a coma, induced by a wicked b**ch. How 21st century. She must have checked with her lawyers to make sure the guy who saved her has enough money to sue for! What a typical man! How dare he save her without her consent! The whole point of the Beauty and the Beast story is not to draw conclusions from appearances; the Beast turned out to be nice! These lyrics imply that Beauty, despite seeming to be kind and lovely, in fact was horrible deep down. Again, really! Hans Christian Anderson wrote the Little Mermaid (Ariel) as a cautionary tale for a young woman who wants to run away with the first idiot she desires, and discovers that when she abandons her original life in pursuit of such folly both her family and her lover end up abandoning her. Got a chance to chase down "Frozen" here too, but I'll show mercy. These fables have long served a purpose in our culture, not only as entertainment and distraction, but as warnings against the most basic foibles of youth. Why can a dubious songstress just make a mockery of this with (clearly) little to any thought and just change all of this literature into: Man is Bad, Woman is Good?
@@richardmohr9218 It seems you enjoy research? So, I thought you might enjoy the origins of Sleeping Beauty. Reading the earlier versions is quite interesting, to say the least. Along with researching the various authors, especially the Brothers Grimm... Have a lovely day! 😊 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sleeping Beauty. This dates back to the rendition of L'histoire de Troylus et de la belle Zellandine. Written in French by an anonymous author. In this version, the King's step-mother tries to cook, and then serve, the children. This story then appeared in Perceforest, also written in French, written in the Low Countries between 1330 and 1345. In this version, the prince rapes her while she is sleeping, and gets her pregnant. She gives birth, still without waking. The first full-length Sleeping Beauty tale was written by Giambattista Basile. He was Italian. Sole, Luna, e Talia was published in 1634. Then, Charles Perrault's version was published in 1697. Entitled, La Belle au Bois Dormant. This version is most similar to the story we know today. The tale of Little Briar Rose is from the Brothers Grimm in 1812. This version left out the cannibalism, adultery, and rape of previous versions. This is rare for the Brothers Grimm, as they are known for their dark and disturbing versions of stories. The sleep thorn and being pricked with a spindle was then referenced in Southern Indian tale, written by Little Surya Bai. This story was added to Old Deccan Days, a collection of stories written by Mary Frere in 1868. The story continues to evolve with younger generations. And for generations to come. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@@drtatt8081 Thank you Dr Tatt. My level of research does not go as deep as yours (If you could send me a link, I would appreciate it), It only really extends to me owning a copy of the complete Brothers Grimm tales, apparently, unabridged. I wonder how far back these tales go and how much truth is in them? One theme that seems to run through nearly all of them is the horrible stepmother character, who uses sexual favors to convince an otherwise kindly man,to kill, eat or exile his children in order for the couple to make ends meet during trying times. It seems that this European fear of the monstrous woman was a result of social difficulties, including religious extremes, social paranoia and violence. Baba Yaga etc. I'm no doctor, but these things interest me. Your thoughts and/ or wisdom would be much appreciated. Thank you for tour eloquent reply
@@richardmohr9218 She didn’t say he stole her shoe she says she’s waiting for him to give it back, which Cinderella was waiting for him to give it back, because he announced he had it so she knew he did and was waiting for the chance to get it back. Its a modern retelling and guys cheat in modern time. Also cheating was considered treason when royals cheated. Equal pay is not referring to being a CEO it’s referring to being a woman as in women do not receive equal pay. Rapunzel had such long hair she could throw it out the window of a tower all the way to the ground and use it as a rope to pull people up. Do you have any idea how long it would take to wash meaning get all of it wet, shampoo all of it, and add conditioner to all of it, then dry it, brush it and style it? I can guarantee she’d rather cut it all off. As for wanting the guy in the tower of course she did her only companion is the witch who forced her in the tower to begin with. She’s desperate for human contact. That doesn’t mean it’s a good or healthy relationship to fall for the first guy who happens to visit her. Sleeping Beauty suing isn’t about the money. Its about the fact that he kissed her without permission, which is sexual assault. And no saying oh I saved her (just like rapists say oh no I saved her from sexual frustration) does not make the act ok. Saying Beauty is the beast isn’t saying she’s ugly. In that part it’s using modern lingo and calling someone a beast is a positive, because it means your saying they are strong, skilled, or dominant in an activity. As for Ariel, again it’s a modern retelling one of the big issues women face is body shaming and body positivity. If you’ve got curves you’re told your to fat if you’re to skinny your told your going to blow away in the wind you need to put some meat on your bones. Ariel didn’t like her fins. She felt like she had to have legs to get the prince to fall in love with her. She could’ve just told him she was a mermaid and he could’ve met her there at the beach every day to get to know each other. But no she was ashamed of her mermaid tale. Women also feel like they have to be a certain way if we ever want to find love. This song is saying its ok to have curves or not have curves. Its ok to feel confident in your own body without being perfect or having to change who you are. In a perfect world Ariel would’ve been born human so she could meet the prince without worrying about what she was born with or changing who she was. Yes, some of the older lessons are still important, but we’ve already seen those in movies. We’ve already read them in books. This song is a modern retelling where you learn new lessons. Like don’t promise your heart to the first guy who saves you from a bad situation such as a tower or evil step family. In Ariel’s case be confident enough in your own body you don’t have to depend on the sea witch. Also, this song isn’t about hating on men. Yes, it’s a girl power songs but that doesn’t automatically make it a man hater song. The only men it’s talking about disliking are rapists and cheaters but considering rape and cheating is bad that makes perfect sense. It does say she doesn’t need a prince. But not needing a prince isn’t the same as not wanting one. And wouldn’t you rather have a girl want you for who you are rather than her being so terrified of being alone that she only needs you because you’re better than nobody? Because if she has nobody society tells her something is wrong with her. So then you aren’t really the love of her life that she wants your just a nobody who happens to give her something society has told her she needs. Or to put it another way wouldn’t you rather she want you and love you flaws and all rather than she puts up with your flaws only because she need you for what you can give her?
I LOVE that princess part! Taking the storybook women in our childhood that we watch religiously and turning their stories into smart, modern-day women. ❤
Rapunzel cutting her hair is smart? Yeah! She really showed 'em. Don't watch anything religiously. That's just nuts Don't listen to any song that says "I'm the goddamn CEO", then says "equal pay". What CEO ever in history wants equal pay? Please choose your heroes more wisely
Heard this on the radio today heading home, but the reception wasn't great. Got home and looked it up, having caught the song title. Totally a new Jax fan, LOVE this song. Listening to her other work right now. Thanks for the music and the messages that you provide, please keep up the awesome work.
My 8 year old daughter has been singing this song all weekend because she heard it at a friend's house. This song is an awesome message and it should be spread far and wide.
What do you think about the music composition itself, doesn't it feel a bit derivative? Like, we have heard this before. Come up with something original
Even though? Sounds like "Disney movies are only for kids and women". Plot twist: that is one of the reasons woman are fighting for equality. Be who you are, love what you love, do what you want and don't let them tell you, we aren't all the same and women can't do something because they are women.
Tiana never dreamed of becoming a biochemist or engineer. She is a hardworking business lady and her relationship with Prince Naveen is more than healthy.

"I dont need no man" THE SONG
I just found this song. It helped me validate me being uninterested in romantic relationships, all my life being pressured to aspire that but never feeling right.
This is the sort of empowerment I wish we had years ago! You’re wonderful and I’m excited for little girls to hear these versions of princess stories. When you shared how your grandma updated the story of Cinderella I got emotional. I also love the line “don’t call me baby, equal pay me”
Exactly! I wish I had Jax songs when I was growing up! 💛

Disagree? Maybe we are talking about someone else's story,
Sleeping Beauty sues the guy who wakes her from a coma, induced by a wicked b**ch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sleeping Beauty.
That’s so sad that this is people’s music choice 😔
1:57 holy hecking frick that goes so hard

Jax, I'm so happy that you released this song. I am so afraid that I have to go to prom alone after achieving my A-Levels next year while everyone else is going with their boyfriend or girlfriend. With this song, you gave me some confidence I really needed. It's such a beautiful song! Congrats from your German fan 💕
Hallo E.K., I just wanted to say congrats on getting close to A-levels, and I’m glad you are gaining confidence. There is no timeline to life; you aren’t falling behind schedule or anything if you don’t have a date to prom. It’s just a dance, and the memory is what you make of it. Keine Sorge, du schaffst das ❤
i was planning on going with my crushes as friends except turns out we have to dance at our school dance so now i have to come up with a different option bc it would be discomforting
@@pennykhamsa4704 Hey, thank you very much!💕
@Painting Dreams Oh no, I'm so sorry! But I can tell you, as somebody who dances a lot in a dancing school, dancing does not have to be uncomfortable, because it is something you do with a partner that "officially " ist just a friend. My dancing partner for example and I are just friends.
@@e.k.4307 oh no its bc hes straight and im gay idgaf abt dancing with some1 but hes a straight guy and ik he doesnt like me like that
Rapunzel would probably starve to death if she cut her hair, because she's trapped in a tower with no stairs And her hair was the only way to go down
Yea, the princess doesn't need to cut her hair to make a feminist rewriting
Like the quote could be that she found her own way to get out of the tower.
@@losernonofficial3802 Yeah, if Jax wrote the song like THAT, it may actually be about empowering women. No, it's about punishing men for the notion that a woman could possibly need help.
@@noahc2078 lesson of the song: women dont need help
Also the flaws in lyrics in both in the original story and logic just makes feminists seem stupid
@@losernonofficial3802 you clearly didn't understand the message of this song at all. Rapunzel wouldn't starve to death without her hair. No one is 'punishing' men for the notion that a woman could need help. What an absolute bullshit comment.
the only saving grace this song had was because it had catchy beats so they just glance over what the lyrics mean 💀
Thank you for this song I’m 17 and I recently finally cut off my first bf who’s hurt me, lied to me, manipulated me, and broke so many promises he made me. I always looked up to fairytales and sometimes still live in a fairytale world where I wanna believe it’ll last forever and I’ve always felt powerless and struggled to stand up for myself especially to boys when I was younger every boy in my grade would bully me and so now I get scared to stand up fomyself
Yuh get it girl
Darn, I hope you are all right now.
@@Eve_Glitch Thanks for your concern it's been a little over a year from when we officially broke up and a month since I stopped texting him. Lately I have been doing better and better and I'm not getting made fun of anymore and I am still able to be friends with mutual friends between my ex and I. I think three or four of our friends know what happened between us and are going to support me and help me through everything, I also had for the past 6 months been writing songs (always about him whether they be positive or negative) and I recently finished my first one after finally realizing how manipulative he was and I used to text him all the time during school and so now that I've stopped my grades have gone up from C and D's and B's and teachers calling my parents telling them that I need to work harder or I'll fail to all A's. Of course that's not to say everything is great but I have been doing way better lately
Girl I was there 5 years ago. Continue trying to put yourself first and make that the dream life instead. That's my journey and si far it's worked tremendously. There's ups and downs but man is it so much better now
Hey I'm seventeen too! goof for you to let that bf go!
Absolutely love this. Really powerful lyrics. Creativity is on point with the Disney princesses too. Really unique: lyrically and rhythmically clever too.
😂❤
This is the best song in the whole world. Wait no.......the best song in the whole universe. PS I am in love with this song 😍😍
Omfg I’m obsessed with this song and this truly an important message
I love it you always make me happy with your new songs they make me feel powerful you are the best I wish more people new you you are an amazing artist you blow my mind with the lyrics you make and your voice is so beautiful
This song is truly awesome. I have 2 sons and I hope to God they'll never be in a relationship that is abusive or has them not thinking about them or their mental health first.
My father has been in a coma for six years. I was playing this song on a speaker today and then he suddenly woke up. He walked to the speaker and turned that dogshit song off!
Thank you Jax!
Aw, someone seems threatened.
@Emperor Exactly my point. Poor things.
I love that you’re writing songs directly for the girls
@Kasha O'Basha even if that was true, it’s still better than teaching them that they’re objects for men to collect
"Don't call me 'baby', equal pay me." YEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YESSS
I don’t need no prince to save me
Yeah Because you need a King
jesus Christ .
