  • In early June 2024, we set off down the Delaware River for an 8 day, 200 mile kayak camping trip. The trip started at Shehawken Access, just above the confluence of the West Branch and East Branch where the main stem of the Delaware River begins. Our trip ended on day 8 in Trenton, NJ, where the river turns tidal. On day 1, we paddled from Shehawken Access back to Soaring Eagle Campground, 18.6 miles
    Paddled: 6-5-24
    Boats: Prijon Yukon Expedition
Flow: 1370 CFS at Lordville, NY

So cool to not have any dams for 200 miles! Nice looking River even if it is getting a little too close to NYC for my comfort. Team Yukon! Jeff

It's a really beautiful river! Much of it is pretty removed from large populations till you get to the lower part. Once it turns tidal it turns industrial, so I didn't want to bother with that section. There are actually some wing dams that funnel the water and have an opening in the middle, but that doesn't count in my book. My Yukon served me well.

@ you actually started not too far from where I want to paddle the East Branch of the Susquehanna (starting in NY) but that heads westerly and southerly..

@@hike-bike-paddle-and-drone How big of a trip are you thinking of doing on the Susquehanna? I know very little about it.

Thanks! The upper Delaware is really exceptional; I liked the whole thing, but especially the upper. I hope that I'll be able to do the rest of the editing somewhat promptly, but it's hard to find time. I actually got this done because I was sick.

@@WickedEarthAdventures You did a great job on your Pawcatuck River video recently. When I start editing, I always hope that I filmed all the best moments and nothing unnecessary, but that doesn't seem to be the way of things. I've made pretty good progress on editing the day 2 footage, so maybe it'll be done somewhat soon. Delaware is a really awesome river; the upper part is smaller and more secluded. The middle (Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area) is a bit easier, has lots of wilderness campsites (reservations required) and a lot of people paddling and camping in season. The lower is a bit more populated and the campgrounds are fewer.

@CTRiverNomad thank you! I'll definitely paddle the Delaware in the years to come. My list is getting pretty long! The more videos you make, the more ideas will come to you while filming!
