Does anyone know why a black star st James might cause the lights to blackout if turned on. It runs on dc. Not ac. Idk what that perticularly means in electricity terms. But thanks guys.
This whole 42 Gear Street segment with all the metal YT dudes is giving off major chill dorm-mates/roommates vibes with a shitload of gear and I'm all here for it.
Thank you for being a "guest star", Kyle! Between you and Hunter, y'all are hilarious! And thanks for the Yamaha Revstar love, too! Seriously wanting one!
Hunter randomly playing Black Label on a 30" baritone tuned to dropped Q was the highlight of the video for me. Also, pitchforks are good for having a cookout with really big grills and barrel sized beer brats, because Germany. Embrace the lederhosen.
finally a kyle guitar vid where the guitar is tuned low enough for us baritone and 7string players, and its hunter pulling through with a proper low tuned heavy test and the amp seemed to handle it well.
honestly all the tones you guys found were bright and brittle with no low mid definition which made the 7 string really lose notes in the chords, i'm wondering if monitoring in the room wasnt giving good feedback to what the oxbox sound actually recorded as
Thanks for this review. I have enjoyed the HT MK II series for my rock and pop cover band due to the neutral tone you described. Will definitely have to check out one of these MK III.
Was there any bass in the room? Because it sounds heavily filtered out here. I'd never buy a blackstar, but this sounds like it has potential to be usable.
Was great to see you guys doing this together 😅😂 you borh need to do some reviews or shootout of your favorite boost pedals.... Wirhout them we wouldn't get great heavy tones. This Balckstar actually sounded great with or without a boost . Have a blessed day dudes 😎👊
Yeah, never been a hige fan of Blackstar amps. Like you guys were saying, "Yep, thats an amp with a guitar plugged into it!"... Thats how ive pretty much felt about them until this video.
thing about Blackstar is they don't sound big enough. I don't know what it is but the EQ and gain is fine and all but it sounds thin and small and not big and open
There's hardly any bass!! The tone sounded like it was bandpass filtered....in a non musical way. Maybe with better eq adjustment and miking it could fatten up a bit.
@@neonether💯. Same here. Sounds horrible, but I’m sure it’s the miking and using a room mike or something. I use good earbuds, but it I know it won’t produce clear results due to UA-cam compression. It has no low end and treble piercing highs. Not good at all. Makes my ears bleed. No mids either. It just sounds bad to me. Sound is subjective, so it might work for other people. It just will not work for my needs. To be honest, I’ve never really liked Blackstar for the money you have to pay for it. Any way just my $0.02.
Great to see you guys having some fun and laughing it up! Thanks for the demo but this amp is not for me. I'm sure Phil X is blasting thru one right now somewhere. Awesome video bro. Keep having fun! 😊
I loved this and the one with Andrew. And the glen shout-out thing lmao amps to make a diff for sure and pickups speakers do change the whole tone but so does a amp lmao idk why he thinks they don't
Kyle! What are they doing to you over there!? you seem lie you have been captured! I'll resue you bro! with my Carvin legacy VL 100 original cab green back 25's! much love and godspeed brother!
Every time i see artists use Blackstars, i think about how much better the Artist sounds when the use their old Marshalls. Mainly the bands Descendants and Bob Mould Band
@@RiffMaster92 It wouldn't surprise me to hear that Blackstar provide a lot of backline for touring bands and no cost or minimal cost in order for the artist to use their gear. Unless your using the high end models I find them to be be quite unremarkable compared to even unmodded JMP's or JCM's.
Please make a regular episode with this amp. I mean alone, proper sound. The sound of this video is weird, too much treble. We really wonder the normal tone of this new amp.
Kyle do you think this amp is the best bang for buck for classic rock as opposed to a Marshall type of amp such as the Peavey 6505. I know you're more into metal but what are your thoughts?
Hi guyz, the video was very cool but it sounded like a bad ampsim with this IR. Kyle, I was waiting for your test to hear this amp in a real situation. I hope you will test it with your regular set up🤘
Whoa, right off the bat the chugs sound like ..... I don't even know the word. Sticky? Elastic? It's hard to put it into words. There's some almost buzzing happening at a particular place in the upper mid that seems to nod at old modded Marshall type gain sounds. I don't usually like Blackstar stuff, but this amp sounds cool. It does need the boost though.
Is there a way to completely bypass the ISF stuff? Like does it have to be turned on/off, or is it always active? That's the one thing I would have to find my way around. I never was crazy about that feature and I would've probably liked Blackstar stuff more without it.
@@Krankenstein So, it seems like that doesn't make it do any *less* than it would at either end, it's a sort of active sweep type of deal that has some solid state stuff that is pretty much always doing *something.* I read somewhere that some Blackstar amps have one channel that it isn't active on? I might just use my cheap but wonderful Frenzel preamp into the interface with a cab sim. That'll give me the feel of some actual cascaded triode stages but also quiet recording. I'll probably keep one cab and try to find one mid-priced amp with low-ish output (compared to 50 and 100 watt heads anyway). Maybe turn my old Hammond into a low output power amp to use with the Frenzel. I don't know.... I wish I had made smarter gear decisions back when I was working 64 hour weeks.
@@jazzspecialist99 I didn't even know about that series, I heard some demos of it and it sounds huge. I would definitely have to go for used, and only after I sold a couple of other things, but that's a strong contender. Thanks.
I love this duo! But the amp did not sound good. 😕 It sounded like it was coming through an 1x6 cabinet or something really small. No bottom, harsh Mids and treble. Not my cup of tea, sadly. 😕
LOL, no one wants to talk about the Blackstar. Everyone cares more about the collaboration, which makes sense because Blackstar stuff is crap. It’s gimmicky. We don’t want a lightweight tube amp. We want a GOOD tube amp.
Definitely not the best sound I've heard. Is overly muffled yet brash, like the HK Grandmeister 40. Pass. Hunter's playing always feels so insanely uncomfortable and stiff. Kyle can relax and go into it but Hunter never can, not even in his own channel.
You have managed to make a great amp sound like a transistor radio amplifying a boss distortion pedal. No cleans, no chunk, no bite, just gobs of muddy Shet. This isn't close to an amp review in any way at all. It's just 2 guys competing on who can get the worst sound ever from a good tube amp.
@@belligerentamateur Ya could be they just didn't appear when I first loaded the page up. That you feel a great need to insult over my comment that you could have used to better your transistor review is to bad though. You literally Shet all over people who like "cleans". That seems smart to ya does it lol. Ok, your call)
Sounds bad to me. High tones are harsh, bass is lifeless and middle is not sweet at all. I owned S1 45W combo and I wasn't satisfied. At first I was thinking that maybe neodymium speakers are the problem, but in the end after listening to a lot of samples on the internet I came into conclusion that this is about the amp. My advice is if you want a tube amp, do not get a Blackstar. These amps are not tube like in terms of sound and also don't react well to anything you plug into them. So you can't fix the missing features with pedals and you always have this too compresed, badly shaped, not breathing tone.
Yo. Two of the best dudes on the tube!!!
Facts
At least one of them...
Agreed

Maybe it was decent in the room... But it sounds a little too fluffy/fuzzy for me in the recording.
The collab I never knew I needed!!
btw including my name, I don’t think there can be names any whiter than Jason, Kyle, & Hunter🤣🤣
Glad to see a Revstar on the channel. I own one and absolutely love it.
You guys are hilarious together you had me LOL. In the future you should do one show a month together.
Does it have the fizz missing on HT MKII ?
Man Kyle and Hunter, dudes this is a show. wtF are we waiting for. Get on that because it was something Id tune in to watch.
Love these collaboration vids

Hey hunter is that the new Ibanez baritone?

Cool video, both opinions were explained/expressed very good! ⚡
Thank you Kyle and Hunter :)
You guys need to do a quarterly team up and call it The Train Wreck Sessions!. Your contrast in styles and banter made it lots of fun!.
Exactly
Trainwrek ain’t really a high gain amp tho grandpa
@Fukthepolice thanks kid *pats you on the head*. You just inspired something.
do you prefer this amp over the evh 5150 iconic?
bstar are a mix of fend marsh mesa in a blender just a bit darker and compressed, they got it right with this one, esp for recording

No shade, how small are Agu's hands? they look so dainty on that baritone.
Review the B52-at100 and the Katana MK2 head
this was a video that I watched!
What Ibanez model is this?
Maybe it's RGRTBB21 IRON LABEL

I was wondering why that ibanez looked huge on hunter 😅 I just thought he was a small dude until he mentioned it was a baritone 😂
A couple of loners having friends. Love it.
Those yamaha revstars are so fuckin' sexy. What's the other one, I didn't notice them saying.
It looks like an Ibanez from the shape of the headstock...i think.
