Not to talk down about all these amazing Olympic teams, but watching the USA vs Poland match all I could think was "This is the Gold Medal Match right here. Whoever loses is getting Bronze most likely" Team USA was such a delight to watch this Olympics.
OP was MVP of this match. The kill-dig and the dime at the end of game 3 were why we won. I'm sitting in an abandoned handicapped seat in most of this tape. Awesome game.
It’s interesting how wide michieletto stays when passing. He covers so much court that when passing hard serves he sacrifices mobility for stability and just takes these little lunges to the side with a stable platform and gets 3 passes off insane serves
Erik Shoji, a NATIONAL TREASURE!!!!! Please make a comeback for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games! My support is FULL 100% for the United States men's and women's volleyball team and the whole Team USA ever!!!!!
14:05 Erik Shoji, you just did that!!!! I kept replaying on that twirl part because even the British commentator was in awe saying, "Great take by Shoji, how does he do it?!" It was just FLAWLESS to look at!!!!!!! That SAVE was the insane, sure thing you won and the whole team got a BRONZE medal!!!! I completely agreed with you at 15:52, I was devastated that Team USA lost to Poland but immediately realized that Poland has never reached the medal podium since the last time they won GOLD at Montreal 1976. Then, I tried to hide my smirk because France still won Gold and Poland got Silver instead (congrats to them both). But anyway, at least you brought back the VB men's team back to the medal podium and I can't wait for LA28, home-court advantage! Congrats again to the whole team and to you, Erik!
Glad to see you back! I always appreciate the analysis you give and little things you point out (like how different nets can have an impact). Also, breaking out spin moves from the dance floor on the court 🤭
Michieletto's good receives definitely comes from the libero experiences he had in his early career lmao, still mesmerised to see him receive as well as he does with his long limbs
lol I didn’t even remember the twirl scene back then 😂😂anyway thanks for the update and the reaction of this vid🥹 Good to see u coming back!!! Love from Taiwan❤️
I love these!!! I hope you will get to review the semi-finals and the gold medal match as well. Passing is a huge story in those games and it would make the world so much of a better place when we have you to break down the details for us❤❤ thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
The lose to Poland was kinda heartbreaking Cuz you guys could have so many chances to win, But Poland just crashing the matches there, and even Zatorski got hurt, they didn't give up. But you guys did a great job as well.
can you expound on Italy serve receive at 5:48? I see some Italian professional teams setup in rotation 1 with the outside hitter passing middle. I would think having him pass right or left, instead of middle would be better for the offense especially out of system. What are they trying to accomplish?
They want the outside hitter to attack on position 4 instead of 2 and the opposite to attack on position 2 instead of 4 compared to a "normal" rotation 1 setup. Because the outside hitter is standing on position 2 right from the middle blocker and the opposite they have to put him in the middle for reception so that the way for attacking is not too long for both the outside hitter and the opposite. If you would put him on the left for reception the opposite would have to stand on the left edge of the court with a much too long way to get to position 2 😊
Hey Shoji! I see many athletes in the national team that are heading for retirement (sadly, because I like seeing you guys play at full power). So, how do you think your team will hold up these next big championships, like VNL, World Championship, continental championship etc.?
thanks for sharing your competent view of the match .a nice match ,3 0 sounds a terrible defeat but the usa had the minimum possible score difference for a 3 0 ,only 6 points .It was a very balanced match.
An Olympic AMA would be cool. Id like to hear how it is to have an emotional teammate in DeFalco, who to a beginner like me seems like was a big part of the offense but also seemed to be a having a really bad time
Yeah, it has to do with how much the net was tightened. If a ball catches the tape, a tight net leads to less bounce (less "give" and less likely to go over, a looser net means more bounce and more likely to go over.
EVERYTIME.....Team USA....GETS CLOSE to 1st PLACE.....VNL...WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS...BUT.....USA JUST CAN'T.....GET TO THE 1st PLACE...GOLD OLIMPIC......LETS SEE WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN...WITH NEW team USA IN LOs Angeles 2028 OLIMPICS....
As a former setter form my college club team, who started playing officially in 1993, can someone tell me why the outside hitters are coming in almost parallel to the net, and swinging angle/sharp angle into a double/triple block that is blocking angle and sharp angle, when they have at least 3 feet of open line? And even when they do take a line shot, it's a noticeably-reduced-power cross body shot (you guys know better), that is at best, poor form/technique. Can someone PLEASE help me make sense of it? Who is teaching these OHs do do this? I've seen DeFalco, Russell and Mugattutia (sp) make this mistake. Go watch the 1988 mens team. You won't see Karch Kiraly, Bob Ctvrtlik or Steve Timmons do that.
Loved this game and the bounce back mentality to go into the bronze medal match so soon after the loss against POL. Your instagram name is misspelled btw in the beginning! (Erick instead of Erik)
I LOVE listening to professional volleyball players analyze their own games to help us see what they see about the game ❤
Erik is not yet abandoning UA-cam 😂. I prefer UA-cam vids than TikToks.

If there is no twirl, cannonball like jumps, screams, or fist pumps...is it even Erik Shoji!🤗

I would love to see the reaction to Erik's off-the-shoulder overpass kill in set 2 because I fell of my couch watching that it was so insane

That middle block by Aaron was insane, had me screaming at my tv
Your respect for both your teammates and opponents is such a nice thing to see

this was the olympics where i had the chance to watch the games live online and this really showed me how brutal sports really is. i was heartbroken!
Welcome back 😎
OMG finally updated 🎉 I love watching games with Erik❤
The lose to Poland was kinda heartbreaking Cuz you guys could have so many chances to win, But Poland just crashing the matches there, and even Zatorski got hurt, they didn't give up. But you guys did a great job as well.
All love for Team USA! ❤
Erik, would you react to the Poland vs USA semi- final match😗?
He will make a great sports commentator someday! I wish though that he had talked about his crazy dig in the second set.
we stan the twirl
Love how they beat us 3-0 in VNL (which we can talk about now because of this match), and we came back and beat them 3-0 for Bronze.
I'd have rather seen them beat Poland and go to the gold medal match.

This is a great explanation!
I can't move on congrats and Im cry

What are some good knee pads?
your twirl hype me up erik haha and I know micah did his thing so it doesn't matter if he has not set it perfectly as they said

Yes it has!!!
I would love to watch you reacting to USA vs Poland semi final match.
I missed youuuuuu❤❤
Go Erik!
Haha Aaron Russell shuffling them feetes to play middle
can you explain the differences in the net? Are some tighter or looser?
Yeah, it has to do with how much the net was tightened. If a ball catches the tape, a tight net leads to less bounce (less "give" and less likely to go over, a looser net means more bounce and more likely to go over.
where is the video from, how do you watch it?
Hi Erik. A Thai fan here. Will you back in VNL 2025 and World Championship 2025?
So remember that one Tik Tok you made about certain words that we do not actually use in volleyball? Well you said nice spike lol
Hahaha I think I realized it when I said it in the video! Good catch!
And the reaction to female olimpic match Italy - USA? Too easy react when your team wins :)
Wait for a LONG TIME!!!
