    I didn't know that voice training was a thing until recently and it's quite exciting. I'm genderfluid and sometimes I'll be male or masculine passing until I speak and it's a pain. I don't think I'll ever have gender surgeries personally, but that's a cool thing to exist and this series was super interesting, thank you for sharing, and kisses to *your* mother x

      Yea voice training works a miracle. I did it before I started T and the dedication and hard work paid of and I was as described by my friend (who didn't know I was trans) I sounded not male or female with my voice 😎 with left people to draw on my clothes and look to determine my gender was great. Just keep at it

      I looked up voice training and I’m starting it now! I’m 25 and I’m just finding out “who I am” after a lifetime of trauma. I’m definitely gender fluid and realising now, it is such a big deal to me and so I’m excited to get my voice a lower pitch :)

      It's quite used technique and its not only for transition. One of my friends (m) had bad accident, broke his neck spine and it damaged his vocal chords. He spoked like chipmunk. Not exaggerating. He sounded like chipmunk! But with voice training after few years he managed to get his "old voice" back. It's long process with hard work but it's always amazing to hear results.

      I have voice teacher friends that are also SLP trained (speech/language pathology) and there is a lot of exciting work being done to help people transitioning in both directions. Everything said in the video is correct, for male to female transitions usually the adult male voice will not change significantly with hormones so SLP work can really help. Much of it is making the client aware of male/female speech patterns, uptick/downtick at the end of sentences, male/female timbre/range, etc. Vocal and speech exercises are given to help imprint and establish the voice in the newer tessitura or pitch range so they can speak healthily without long term vocal damage. I encourage anyone transitioning in either direction to seek out a speech therapist or voice teacher with SLP training (they should indicate SLP accreditation.) The time spent is incredibly effective and also emotionally supportive in the journey. And for those in transition, if you are having issues with your voice, see a laryngologist, not and ENT. They are ENT's with many more hours of specialization in the larynx and vocal cords, so they can treat specific medical conditions and recommend a great SLP therapist.

    I’m lesbian both my wife and I have have trans friends. One of my m to f trans friends keeps getting kicked off Facebook when men find out she’s trans, Facebook kick her off. It’s no her fault. Also we usually to go Manchester every July to Sparkle weekend, it’s like a trans pride, we love it, but then we love Manchester and pride there too.
    People should be more accepting of each other no matter what we present as, we are all humans! Leah I think your voice is good. I also love that your journey has brought you and Elena closer together.

    Wait. I've been putting off breast reduction because of the scars. Maybe things have changed since I looked into it like...20 years ago! Thank you for mentioning the lack of scarring!

    • @LuckeeLaura
      @LuckeeLaura 2 роки тому +18

      Breast reduction scars are sadly still quite a bit bigger than augmentation scars. If you’re uncomfortable and a reduction would make you happier, I would go for it anyways!

    • @codename495
      @codename495 2 роки тому +5

      Scarring is different for each person, and if you go to a consult that is something you can discuss. Some people scar badly, others scar very little and while there are measures you can take to help minimize scarring any and all surgical procedures will have scarring.

    • @cassidybrewer
      @cassidybrewer 2 роки тому +4

      Breast reduction is typically a keyhole scar, whereas augmentation can usually be done underbust or in another less-invasive way. Breast reduction can also be covered by insurance if you have back pain and you can prove that’s why.

    • @May-xt9pv
      @May-xt9pv 2 роки тому +6

      The amount of scarring will depend on how much of a reduction you have. I had a lot removed and have scarring, but I don’t mind the scarring. I’m so glad to have smaller breasts.

    • @MooMeggle
      @MooMeggle 2 роки тому +1

      The anchor shape scaring fades incredible amounts. When you’re ready for it you realise that the scars don’t matter to you as much. The pain relief, the size change, the improved shape and the new lease on life you get make all of those worries disappear. Promise! A good surgeon will do the anchor scar because you get the most natural shape, keyhole reductions aren’t the best option because they simply remove fat/tissue whereas a full reduction has more scars but the breasts are lifted and shaped to look the most natural. :)

    Love this series. I've been watching my best friend go through this transition since 2017 when she first came out to me as trans. I definitely had a similar first reaction to your mom - fully supportive but definitely afraid of the heaviness of what being a trans woman implies in our society. I've also been able to see the great impacts that surgery has had on her well-being and I honestly just feel so honored to be present for it. As an American, it's definitely interesting to hear about your perspective with the NHS and Korean systems. In general, I just love the amount of love radiating from this, from you and your sister to the general comment section. It's so good to see.

I'd heard stories of 'surgery tourism' and it always sounded so sketchy and dangerous, but you've really shed a light on it in a way that I'm sure has helped so many people. This kind of surgery isn't just life-changing, it's often life-saving, and I'm sure this series will give many people the hope they need to keep going.

    Can I just say... while this is not necessarily your target, it is great to be able to show my 5year old trans girl that it is possible to become a "real girl" and fight back on harmful/negative messaging we receive from some family members. Me watching this allowed her the opportunity to ask about and learn that surgery is an option to become a real girl and is super affirming and helpful even at such a young age. Thank you Leah for being brave enough to share your story and inspire (because you will) others with your bravery.

She was a very depressed youth at my church, struggling with her identity at the time. Once she came out as trans and started her transition, the change was immediate and breathtaking.
    I’m so happy for Leah to have the opportunity for the procedures she’s had and I hope she is able to raise enough to do the tracheal shave soon.
    I also love how supportive you are, El. It’s obvious just how much you love Leah and are 1000% in on supporting her however is needed. So many people aren’t as lucky. Keep up the awesome example for the rest of us!

    Voice training can seem so daunting but you will eventually get to the place you want to be! I think your pitch and projection sound good I think the only thing is your resonance might still be a little dark. Z from trans voice lessons explains it really well if you haven't seen her videos. I found for myself that basically whenever im awake I try and keep my larynx raised for longer and longer and I feel like the muscles over the last couple of years have strengthened to the point that I don't have to consciously keep it raised anymore. Ive also gained control over being able to suck in my apple slightly while its raised which helped my resonance be brighter. I think that was the biggest breakthrough with my voice was being able to comfortably shrink my vocal tract while speaking. keep working at it, you'll get there

    Elena you and your viewers have worked a miracle and now you have the sis you have always wanted. on a funnier note Leahs red afro curls gave off a Tom Baker Dr. Who vibe.

    Leah, I think your voice is beautiful. My sis wife has a much deeper or masculine sounding voice so go easy on yourself. Loving these vlogs re your transition. I applaud your courage and willingness to share such an important matter. Elena, new subscriber. Loving every minute.-A happy Hoosier (USA/IN) old, married, lesbian.

    Thank you for being so open with your journey Leah, and Ellena for facilitating it. I recently “discovered” that I’m gender fluid. I’m now accepting myself, and I’m excited to start voice training, to eventually get a breast reduction, and to be myself in whatever form I decide. Thank you ❤️

    I've never really talked about this (like ever... maybe once to I don't remember who), but maybe it fits here: When I was 3-5 yrs old (2000-2002) I had experiences a few times that my perception of my gender has changed. I'm a boy, I was born as a boy. But In this period of time, sometimes I felt like "I'm a girl now". It was like a switch. In one moment I'm a boy, next moment I'm a girl. It was weird. It was weird to feel myself differently this way, from a moment to another. As I remember, I didn't feel the urge to behave differently,(also, I never wanted to dress like a girl, these switches to girl, only lasted for minutes) but it happened. Maybe I experienced this switch once or twice more later, but I'm not sure about it. So, I was gender-fluid, if i'm right. :D
    Also good to hear Leah is happy with her transition!😊
