Lucid Air Touring review: Competing with Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan

- Lucid may (rightfully) be compared to Tesla but the latest EV automaker has been setting its sights on different rivals. The Lucid Air (and its many variants) is built specifically to take on German luxury automakers.
After spending time behind the wheel of the Air Grand Touring and Air Grand Touring Performance trim levels, we took delivery of the less expensive Air Touring which starts at $107,400. That price point puts it in direct competition with the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan. While the two EVs have the power and range numbers essential for luxury buyers, Lucid still needs to prove itself.
The Lucid Air Touring is less expensive, has a smaller battery pack, and has less power than the Grand Touring and GRand Touring performance. Still, it’s still an impressive sedan on paper. With 620 horsepower and a zero-to-60 time of 3.4 seconds, it’s plenty quick for pretty much everyone and the 88 kWh battery pack can deliver an EPA-rated range of up to 425 miles.
At a glance, it looks like it’s ready to play the part, but it takes more than specs to build a luxury car. We took the Air Touring for a week-long spin to see if Lucid has indeed built a vehicle capable of competing with German luxury.

I love my Lucid Air GT, and I’m glad they have started delivering the Touring and the Pure as promised. Hopefully we start to see more on the road.
The fact that the touring has more legroom than gt is bad news for you because if anyone sits in the rear, they probably will have less comfort than the touring due to the battery pack floor higher.
Saw a lucid air on the road the other day and it was breathtaking. Never seen an EV with a more demanding presence

Lucid touring is the best package out there. Love it.
Good review. Yes, the Touring package hits a sweet spot in the market. While Lucids are often compared to the big Mercedes, their ride and feel is modeled after the sportier BMWs. I find Lucid's high quality but restrained interior to be more comfortable and intuitive than the German brands. Most important controls can be accessed through real physical switches. Seat adjustments, climate control, audio, can all be adjusted w/o taking eyes off the road. Yes, the screens are there to provide deeper control of each function.
I received my Air GT in April and have been impressed with how rapidly over-the-air updates are constantly improving the car and adding features. It is a joy to cruise on the freeway and handles twisty back roads like a smaller sports sedan.
That sounds amazing ngl. The range alone already makes this car really compelling

This seems to be the Lucid Air that gives the best balance of performance for the price.
The ones after this trim level are too expensive.
This is the exact reason why this is the model I choose. 620 HP is plenty fast, and 425 range is plenty.
I know people want a 500mi EV, but this car has plenty of range and power, and the backseat is actually better because of the smaller battery.

I live in Dallas. I see Lucid Air’s now like I see Toyota Camrys. I see 1 every day and Dallas is a very large city.

Maybe I missed it, but you didn't say a word about the driving pleasure and especially the steering feel.
The Lucid Air rivals the steering qualities of the BMW M5 E39, some would say that it goes even beyond the driving pleasure of that benchmark.
With the right tires, the Lucid Air is a pure sang canyon carving machine.
The EQS is a lot, but it is certainly not a driving machine.

Why do auto freaks always mention how fast you can reach 100 kM per hour? Especialy with electric vehicles you would spoil a lot of energy. And in my simple life, I was never on a race track or a situation where you could pull up that fast without hitting other cars.

Still don’t get why the eqs has to be this ugly, cuz clearly you can make pretty cars aerodynamic
Problem with EVs. Charging time takes forever, and costs to much to operate regarding energy, and Batteries are NOT OK, for the environment, which is a double edge sword. Finally, it's too quiet, whereas with combustion engines have noise, so pedestrians can hear the vehicle coming...as with EVs you cannot.
I don't trust the brand and I don't think the car is priced correctly for what it is.

Lucid is too expensive. You can buy two or 2.5 Tesla's for the same price.
But Lucid can go for further so the range advantage is compelling
@@mcslender2965 Agree however Tesla has many advantages such as the Tesla charge network across the country and better software. The Lucid will also be very expensive to repair as they are using multiple components. This is why the interior of a Tesla is minimalist. Quick and easy to repair and maintain.
The Pure Lucid Air is cheaper than the base Model S which is the most comparable model.
But Tesla is also built cheaply….
