I rolled on the ground laughing when you told us your tool chest stand could fix your house after a drone strike. Its this type of humor I love and is why I come back to this wonderful channel. Keep up the good work! God bless
Surely the white Christian homesteaders are going to be the last people on the government drone strike list?
A drone flies my neighborhood every week. I have proof it's no cheap pos either infrared night v is soon etc. Definitely LE
I had to replay it with my ear to the speaker....I was def caught off guard by that lol, came out of nowhere, kinda like a drone strike I guess....🤔
Next level organization here. Love it.
This is probably the strongest tool box stand ever.
Personally, the tool wall is what gives your shop identity. Although I understand that you cant keep every tool on the wall, I think the old tools deserve to be displayed.
As a wise man once said, storage drawers is where tools go to get lost. Hope the new system works out for you.
Yes but i guess he found it cluttered. I never really like tools on display like that as they just rust and it isnt as functional as you would think constantly looking a 20 planes you never use
I notice the older I get the longer my legs get. That ground just keeps getting further and further away. My favorite blacksmith tongs have turned out to be my pickup tongs. I'm always grabbing them to pickup things I've dropped.
Every flat surface in my home is constantly filled with stuff and cleaned off in an endless cycle.
keeping tables clear and each tool in its place is something i am trying to force feed myself now and its interesting seeing someone else who has made the same mistakes coming to terms with a similar solution.
We are all on the same journey.
Amen to raising things to your level!
Great organization but I like to see all the old tools displayed. It's what makes a woodshop cool I think.
To be able to find dry 4x4s is a blessing by itself. Great vid as always!! Lol. Drone strike! My man!!
Lol can't find em'..... Make em' yourself 💯 that's probably what wranglestar thought when buying his lumber mill
Seriously.. that's four Home Depots, two days, and $300 worth of lumber there!
@@treyhart6861 I actually laughed out loud, we just actually had to hit 4 different home depot's to get all we needed. Nailed it right on the head😁🤣
Just brought ash tree into the mill
is there such a thing
“First federal drone strike” 🤣🤣🤣
Caught me off guard! Laughed out loud. Hard!
Shame about the splits. Could have been avoided by pre drilling?
It’s beautiful. Simply and elegantly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Cribbing are a life saving and simple piece of equipment. I used them in a house fire back in ‘03 when a house collapsed on the first in/SAR team. House collapsed and as a FAST team member we used those with Kevlar bags to lift a house to rescue my brother firefighters
I am laughing so hard now thinking of all those years you told me a tool box is where tools go to die
Man I've been down the road of drawers (Lista, Lyon, Vidmar, etc) vs. hanging tools on the wall. Hanging tools on the wall is definitely the better approach in a personal shop. The tool wall enables you quickly scan across a wall of tools which helps your brain conceive ideas / solutions for the problem at hand.
I like tools on the wall and consumables in drawers like drill bits, grinder/cutting wheels, oils, greases, sand paper, ect
@@josephbrown1120 that's exactly how I do it too.
It is funny, this is what he preached for a long time, then all of the sudden he switched over to boxes and drawers. I feel like we all go through phases like this....ever evolving.
@@south_coast I see that too. I've seen him go through minimalism and "maximalism" (hehe) phases twice now. Renewals of faith. Changing interests and different hobbies. Yep, we all go through similar phases in life. I enjoy watching him grow and change. He's been helping me along my journey for a decade now.
@@JerodMatlock Same here. It is nice to see someone else shell out the money for nice cabinets/drawers and see how he likes them before making a jump like that. I always like the buy once cry once mentality, so it makes me a bit slower to jump into a new setup like this.
I caught a glimpse of the blue box a couple of video’s back. I’ve been waiting for it to pop up again! Awesome little box there!
Any flat surface in a shop is a table, doesn’t matter what it is
Lista are the best I’ve ever used. Back when I was an aerospace welder, our toolboxes for tools and tig welding consumables were Lista boxes. I like the fact that it won’t let you open a drawer if another one is open. Great feature to make sure that it never falls forward on to you. The mechanical locking mechanism is also really simple and reliable.
When I saw the title, all I could think of was "an entire assortment of lock tite" 😂
Cribbing is also used to shore up buildings being lifted. Very strong.
After seeing it as a short, I was hoping this video would drop today! It looks so simple, but so good at the same time. One day when I have a shop I know I’ll reference back to your videos to help set it up.
That is a wonderful lay out. I was going to build a Dutch tool box out of wood but maybe this is the right path! Thanks!
Surely your big japanese saw would fit nicely in the cribbing.
Love learning awesome lessons and old school tips from your channel, thank you!
This toolbox stand is the biggest professional homeowner flex of 2022.
Looks like a huge waste of space. Glad you like it though
Thats what I thought too...waste of wood too
Very smart of you to take steps to save your backs and knees. I am at that stage also.
I shed a tear for the long clear 4x4 getting chopped up🥲
the end of an era... i will miss seeing the planes and the french cleats in the background
Gets a steal on the toolbox, spends a fortune on lumber for a stand!😜
Something waist high will always gather clutter.
Doing this, this weekend, thanks
What happened to "A toolbox is where a tool goes to die"? Just wondering. :)
Well he hasn't used most of those tools for several years so ...
@@DK-jd8bj True enough. :)
Thanks for the video Cody🙏🏻
It needs to be made so well because that's where he stores all them gold bars!!!
Love it and the humor
I need to go back and find the build videos on that bench. I’m in need of something similar now.
Great video! That’s a very cool base for the cabinet. It’s visually appealing.
In our family we call it horizontal surface disease. I have been diagnosed terminal with it.
Interesting bank of drawers,I sure like the cribbing stand. I worked for my wrestling coach in Jr.high and high school, and on the summer break he moved houses, literally moved houses. Cribbed them up on I beams and pulled them to a new location with a old Oshkosh truck. Did a whole small town one year when Monsanto contaminated the water table. Great video, been working on reclaiming flat surfaces in my shop, your recent videos on organization have been inspiring.
Nice editing Cody. That timelapse putting all the tools in the drawers was special.
If that thing ever warps you can just push down on the top of the toolbox with your excavator until it's square again.
Love this box!
Your shop looks beautiful.
I love it! My grandfather was a CPR machinist who made all of his own tools. He too, had them in a cabinet on a cribbed base, above which hung a very old picture of a train trestle in the Rockies. There is no sense in being a slave to function… there has to be a nod to your own sentimental aesthetic or you might as well be working in a dentist’s office!
Fun fact, we use cribbing for house foundations way up here.
That cribbing could do double duty as a temp foundation for your house too. The work bench got me to thinking about a work bench my great grandfather had (1910s-1940s house builder.) His work bench was also a well type. He told ne when a board or timber twisted, the old guys would do one of two things. Either replace the timber or add some board to two adjacent sides and then re-square the piece again. Unfortunately I didnt get the bench, One of his grandson's, my uncle got it.
The Gap in the cribbing would make a great place for storing dowel
Excellent content, Cody. I liked how you added a comment about the research you did on cribbing - the mining stuff. Nice attention to detail.
Mr. W., I know you know that if you scrape a little bar soap on them long screw threads they go in way easier. That’s how we do it in Louisiana.
And I’ll tell you something else. I didn’t see how you secured the toolbox to the cribbing.
You certainly have some great kit, well done.
Found your channel a few weeks ago watching tool reviews and instantly got hooked after the older torture test videos of yours, thanks for the consistent uploads and great content
Hi Cody, my family business uses cribbing to suspend houses and structures in the air. Either to repair basements or to raise homes out of a flood zone. In the flood zone case, people either put their homes on stilts or add a garage underneath.
i would like to make a recommendation, always lay your hand planes on their sides, this way the knives wont get dinged or miss-adjusted even on a soft mat or carpet.. i hope this helps. please take this as a constructive recommendation. be well and be happy! thanks for sharing.
power planer.... zipppppppp it goes if you do the same
I've been watching for a long time and I really appreciate the evolution of the channel. Thanks for the wide array of topics you cover and projects that give us less experienced the opportunity to learn.
One of the biggest reasons i have watched for so long is because of his wife range of videos. I get burnt out on other channels that just talk about one thing over and over again.
Fantastic production value! That's one helluva base/stand
The bushcraft knife in the black sheath is on my wishlist but their always out
Nicely organised 👍
With the price of lumber, that cribbing probably cost more than the cabinet!
“Federal drone strike” 😂😂😂
This man thinks like I do!!!
I got unblocked!!!!!!
Lol
Best channel ever!!!
Good stuff brother and hello from the twin cities MN . ✌
I'm 70 and I live in a 3 story house. It's tiring at first, but now I run up and down like a kid.
elevated drawers are great
Yes! I'm 6'3 myself! No more stooping!
I'm 89 year old & over those years I've seen many changes. One of those changes is tool storage. Cabinet drawers are great.
I used to work for Lista in Holliston, MA, I welded the workbench legs and more in the late 90's.
I still have my toolbox. The drawers are rated 220 lbs and 440lbs.
With the full walls of all drawers, multi-story high the engineers would climb the drawers instead of dragging the ladder around.
The military would drop test the toolboxes too it's amazing what they can withstand.
Never thought I'd see a west -coaster buy an eastern toolbox ;-)
FYI you can open 2 drawers at the same time.
Forgot to mention your toolbox is a 450 (4x50mm,1x100mm, 1x150mm), it was usually mounted under a maple butcher block topped workbench, that's why there isn't a top lip on the back and sides. Look for the knockouts (like electrical boxes).
The box can be reconfigured to put the drawers in any sequence you want, you aren't stuck with the small ones on top.
Lista cabinets are the absolute best. My old supervisor didn't believe the weight capacity on them so I literally stood right in the drawer. Absolutely loved the bench I was able to build... complete with butcher block across the top.
I like it. Adds solidity to the shop. I’d enclose the bottom spaces with the left over jigs to stop the dust collection. Nice!
Such a great video, I love when you build things... do more of that!
Nice overhead camera setup. The drawers open to fill the frame. Nice video.
Oh! The cribbing gaps could be used for storing short molding strips, short dowels, short rebar, and bar steel.
It would be pretty cool to see you build a wooden top for that snap on rolling chest. I feel like it would be incredibly utilitarian
The base is wasted space. Would be better if you stacked two or bought one tall one. You can always use the bottom cabinet for things that you don't often use.
Man, that white and black Wranglerstar logo sign looks good on the wall!!!
im looking to begin building a school bus into a n rv i decided to use a husky tool box with a wood top as the kitchen drawers i will build a base to incorporate two to three drawers on the bottom for less used items
I thought you would store a single hummingbird feather in there just to troll everybody.
Great video, loved the history lesson and the fast forward imagery - I felt like you added that extra fizz!
Nice nothing wrong with organizing Happy workshop God Bless
Love it
Drawers are where tools go to die, I remember a feller saying this years ago.
The drone strike had me laughing thus am brother!! God bless ya Cody and family..
A wood topper would fit nicely on the toolcart!
In a previous video, you said you now have a rule for the inside of a drawer, which was: nothing can touch. I followed your rule and man it really does help keeping things in order. Prevents you from cramming things into the drawers.
That's some serious cribbing! I had a thought. Did you ever think of putting the cribbing and the cabinet behind and into the wall there? You'd open that space up even more and you drawers would be assessable right on the wall. Of course we don't know what is stowed behind that wall.... Thank you for all you do......Pray for you family daily!
I spit my coffee at "drone strike."
I don't blame you for changing, but I remember watching the videos on you setting up your french cleat system and I think I will miss seeing them on the wall!
I wonder if there is solution to table tops
I have a love of fine wood working and I also do alot of mechanic work in my shop... I'm torn because I constantly getting black finger prints on my projects.. As much as I try to keep them separate it just doesn't happen
Excellent vid. Thx
How warm does that wood stove keep the shop? Do you have any other sources of heat in there?
I think it looks cool I like it!!
Horizontal surfaces is a curse and a blessing.
Wood working cabinet more or less 👍 Beautiful work my friend 😎❤️🤘!!!!
We do have some fairly extreme cribbing situations of all sizes at work. It’s amazing what a sturdy, built with care set, can do you for.
In your measuring drawer. I see you have that little Stanley knife and replacement blades. I have one and it is one of the best utility knives I own.
HSS - Horizontal Surface Syndrome
The phenomena of empty flat surfaces quickly gathering items!
Up until I heard the drawers are rated for 400 lbs, I thought this was overkill.
Not so much for the big Lista Cabinets that can be full of heavy fasteners, Lathe Chucks, machining vises, rotary tables. A large lathe Chuck or rotary table can easily be over 100 pounds.
@@guytech7310 So what you're saying is, we need a crane in the shop next.
Got to say I would never build a one story house. Not cost efficient. Most of your money is in the foundation and roofing. Basements and second stories are only about 20% more to build. I do understand the desire to simplify though.
Looks nice!
Love my lista cabinet.
