This video really incapsulates what we all love about boating it really doesn't matter if your on a million pound boat or whatever your budget allows ….out with your friends and your beautiful lady cruising a picturesque backdrop to me that is living the dream enjoy!
What a great way to spend a weekend, I know my children would love this.... nothing better than seeing our country from a totally different perspective ❤️
Two great videos Nick. Have walked and cycled the route from Dawlish Warren. Lovely beer at the Turf locks and the Double locks pubs. Great to see you had plenty of gongoozalers enjoying watching you through the locks and bridges. ( Not sure of spelling)
Great video, you need to re-visit Norfolk, the boat at 3:04 looked like an RAF rescue launch or possibly a range vessel, agree definitely looked military. Ty for posting. :)
I hope you appreciate just how much chaos you created on the Exeter local roads with this journey?! Stopping the traffic to let you all through. LOL LOL
Since I’ve subscribed to your channel Nick I’ve always wanted to ask whether you could take your style of boat on a river. Felt daft but you’ve now answered the question. Cheers! Have a good evening.
That swing bridge was used as a practice training rehearsals location by the 6th Airborne Division for the D-day glider assault of Pegasus bridge near Caen France in 1944 due to its similarity.
Your boat is more than capable though yes?? I've no clue to boating really just taken a recent interest and love your videos. Would a trip like that take lots of planning and roughly how long would it take do you know?? I live near Swansea marina and it's always been a dream to have a boat and go from here down to the Isle of Wight 😀
@@gavinsullivan6926 You'd want calm settled conditions, but yes the boat is plenty seaworthy enough. We cruise at about 20 knots (roughly 22mph) so you can work out times and distances from that.
Hi, did you have to pre-book the passage ? I fancied that exact journey as I am also from the bay, I’ve cycled & walked the canal dozens of times - it can be very peaceful and beautiful
From the tour of your boat I gather you have a sea toilet so wonder how you manage in marinas and rivers where I'm assuming you're not allowed to use it? chamber pots ?
@@marklawrence855 I can understand why. Have you ever read Coot Club by Arthur Ransome? Worth getting if not, it's a charming book about children's adventures around the Broads based in the 1930s.
For us it was £41.20 per boat to lock in and to stay in Exeter Ship Basin, and the passage along the canal both ways was £25.75 per boat. I say 'for us' because I think the charge will vary depending on how many boats it is split between (on our trip, the yacht peeled off early and us three plus another boat went up to Exeter). I thought that was brilliant value!

This really makes all of my bits and pieces in my head very happy. Thank you Nick! You are a great find!
What an utterly brilliant way of describing it: 'bits and pieces'. 🤗

Loved that, walked it many times
Fantastic video and channel! Thank you for sharing your passion
Thanks for watching!
How cool. I'd love to live on that canal. I'd run into Exeter by boat for everything!
I think I am becoming a aquaholic-holic I can't stop watching.
videos are so good.
I laughed out loud when I saw how many vehicles were stopped waiting for you at Platex Bridge 😂 great video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Ask yourself why and what for that infrastructure is maintained
wonderful, I especially enjoyed Playtex Bridge - it lifts and separates !
Brilliant! :D
Fascinating. Really great video. I had no idea you could get so far!
Thank you for the journey. Was great to come alone. Hope to come alone for more.

Loved the fast frame stuff on the way back. Nice vid.
Glad you enjoyed :)
Very interesting to see the old boats there. That kind of stuff always fascinates me. I always wonder what it’s history is.
Very enjoyable video.
.. with the added bonus of not having to do the lock gates yourself. That would have been heaven for us canal users in the Midlands. Nice vid

I just went and looked at the Double Locks pub. Food and atmosphere looks amazing. Should've ordered ahead and picked up some carry out. 🍽😁
Awesome trip
Lovely video, many thanks.
You're very welcome, thank you for commenting. :)

Yes, you have to book it.
You didnt mention the film The Onedin Line was filmed at Exeter quay just over from where you were docked.

Use the marina facilities
You're still young but in a few years you'll be up twice a night, enjoy the luxury of an undisturbed night while you can.
I know someone who lives in the flats on the left at 8.28. Just behind Marsh Barton Industrial estate there
Great :) Thank you :)
My pleasure!

How much do you have to pay for the locks & bridge to be opened etc?
