God, I never tire of listening to the songs of this band, the wake, it deserves to be more recognized, here in my country Peru 🇵🇪, only a few of us listen to it
Yes - they DO look very much like New Order - take the bassist out and it could well be them up there. But then what did we expect, they are a Factory band after all...and despite being forever in NO's shadow, they did bring out a modest handful of decent records....it wasn't until they left Factory and signed to Sarah records in the late 80s that they changed their sound. A great, criminally underrated and much missed band!
I never saw them, but I did write the singer, he replied back saying they had no plans to play abroad when they left Factory records He signed it Ceaser (1987) The other bands on Factory stuck their ideas Only James left to became a stadium group like U2 Happy Mondays were a brave signing from Tony Wilson(RIP) It made them famous, but ruined the finance of the hacienda club, which was originally a live venue, then a disco with a dance ( drug ) culture that you would love or hate 🙌👎
This band is great. I'm wondering why they aren't talked about at all. When it comes to new wave 80's, we always just hear about the Joy Division, Siouxsie & the Banshees, or The Cure. But never about The Wake. I don't understand why, because they were just as good as those other bands.
The Wake have a few live recordings filmed at the hacienda club around 82 to 83 ( I think ) A factory outing & another release on VHS All various factory bands Quality is a bit poor Good 🤞🏼 to you all trying to find these
@villavillacola1111 @villavillacola1111 well, recognition has finally come. the label captured tracks has just reissued a couple of their first 7", and there is a lovely 7" with a couple of cover versions by wild nothing and beach fossils.

A fellow longtime Peruvian fan here. I saw and met this guys long time ago. They were great.
Possibly one of the finest singles of the past 30 years.

Because they weren't willing to sell their souls to the recording studio...look at how Ian Curtis committed suicide

Just like New Order circa 1981, same lineup too with Gillian on synths but saying that they are FUCKING AMAZING IN THEIR OWN RIGHT!
beautiful sound: joyous not at all depressing, and thrilling harmonica.
