  • The current guidebooks completely IGNORE Southern Italy and it makes no sense! There are more hidden treasures there than you can count and one of the jewels in the Southern Italian crown is the Ancient Greek city of Paestum.

Thank you so much! Paestum is absolutely spectacular. And we just love it in the spring time when the flowers are just starting to come out. It is very magical.

We were there this week and even in January it is comfortably warm and the grass is full of a sea of buttercups.@@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC

These temples of ancient city of Poseidonia are about a century older even than the Parthenon in Athens, very incredible.

It is truly amazing! These were buried until recently so were protected. I LOVE Paestum.

I loved this video Chris. Our first visit to Italy was about 15+ years ago(?). We stayed in Rome for a week or so (of course) then we rented a B&B in Agropoli. Luigi ran it and cooked our dinners for us. It was beautiful! One day we drove to Paestum and had an amazing time walking amongst the 2500 year old ruins. Later on as we were driving away we saw a cattle ranch full of water buffalo. It was an amazing experience and your video brought it all back. Can't wait to go back! Grazie mille!

That sounds amazingly nice! Paestum is truly an experience. AS you already know it is more than just ruins. It has a totally spiritual feel to it. I can't wait to go back!

When I was living in Napoli I visited Paestum as a field trip for my class with the University of Laverne. Professor Michael Karris took us there and we walked around the ancient town, walked down it's main road. The temples were impressive.
If you like Paestum, strongly recommend you visit Assisi. Hearing the Franciscan monks singing vespers in the Gothic church is an ethereal experience.

Can’t wait to be able to go back to Italy! Still interested in a little apartment in Santa Dominica I saw online so hopefully can see it soon! Happy New Year and thanks for the updates! It would be great if someone in the town could give a video tour of the town on their Facebook page or post current pics. Can’t find a lot of updated info on Santa Dominica..

Greetings from southern Indiana, USA! A few years ago I spent a few days in Salerno. (About 1943-44 the 5th Army visited there. They were moving the Germans out, who left a mess. They didn't want to leave. It's been fixed up since then!) Anyway, one of my days was to take the train to Paestum. Absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, it was a day with scattered showers -- only when I was outside! When I was inside the museum it stopped raining. That's travel!

Hi Louis! I have read about what occurred in Italy and seen some of the remnants of German occupation but much of it has been cleared away. I am so glad you got to experience Paestum. It is wonderful there and I am so happy you got to see it. I hope we can all see it together sometime in the future.

And near Paestum you will find the true Mozzarella affumicato made from water buffalo milk resulting in one of the most incredible cheeses of Italy. Happy New Year to you and Pete.

That is a magnificent destination Chris! Hard to believe it’s not as well known as other architectural treasures from that era.....and much better preserved than many. Incredible. The wild flowers from the end of the video also got my attention!
Thanks for touching on the logistics of it all. It’s helpful in getting my mind around how one gets about in the region. I’ll admit that’s been a mental stumbling block for me. 👍🏻

You are so eloquent! Thanks for this lovely video. It’s a place I have always wanted to visit. On another note, I can’t believe you are allowed to travel! Does your gov’t not have an advisory? Ours does. And Italy?

Hi Catherine! Thank you so much. Paestum is a fabulous place! There are travel advisories but you can travel in certain circumstances. I am hoping Spring will be better. Pete and I can travel as we have business and we really have to go. Nick Metta can help you with this if you need it.
