Jeff and Elliotte.. rangers fan here!! Beginning of the season I was actually quite excited having Lavy as our coach. I also agree with you that many fans didn’t agree with that hiring decision. After the let down last year in the playoffs, reporters and journalists covering the rangers said in their exit meetings that the players wanted to be pushed more and be tested physically and mentally. I think Peter laviolette fits that mindset and coaching mentality quite well. Knows when to push a player/s harder and knows when to give them a pat on the back. So many decisions he has made this year have been perfect or such a smart move such as calling up young physical players like edstrom and rempe, adjusting the defensive pairings, riding Quicky and giving Igor time to get his mojo and groove back with Benoit mid season. Hopefully you guys see this comment, thank you for giving the credit the rangers deserve even though I don’t care and neither do they if they are viewed as underdogs, and thank you for this podcast! Social media consultant advice to Shanahan: Cancel the depressing year end pressers. Just grab the microphone and belt out two choruses of "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie. "....just thinking about tomorrow; clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow..."
I owe Laviolette an apology because when he was named the new head coach I was out here, in these streets dragging the man as being a recycled coach with nothing new to offer and boy was i wrong. I have never been happier to be wrong before. Seeing Laffy buzzing is a huge sign. Our 3rd line has been really good at making things happen too, if the hockey gods would just smile on Kappo Kakko a little more he would have a few more goals. the 4th Line has been terrorizing everyone and when Rempe sits and Cuylle is moved down to the 4th line in favor of a reborn Fil the Thrill Chytil, they are still a physical line and able to cycle the puck down low and grind the opposing D. As for Russian goalies who can handle the puck? Friedge...Igor doesn't just stop pucks, he moves them too.
LGR!! I was quite excited abt laviolette. The players wanted to be pushed more after the let down last season and after seeing the season unfold, he has answered so many questions and negatives about the rangers and made many smart decisions
If Laviolette takes NYR to the finals, he will become only the second coach all-time to take four different teams to the finals. He has done it with three teams, and right now only Scotty Bowman has done it with four. I root for Laviolette to join Scotty in that category.
I am one of those Rangers fans who weren't impressed by Laviolettes hiring. Because of his Flyers history and rivalry with them, and because of the sentiment of regurgitating the same old faces over and over. But eating a big serving of crow here, he did a marvellous job with this team, helping them overcome the disappointment of last years exit, and as was mentioned trusting Laf with a top six role - and he's having a great year and lots of promise in the coming years.
The key about success is to make your first decision the right one. Keefe was in way over his head even though he seemed to have good records with lower level teams. He seemed to have no answer for different styles of play. And when he found it (maybe by chance) in Game 6 against Boston, he abandoned it for something akin to seaonsal play in Game 7. He was not in control of game day in the playoffs.
I think ur wrong about Laviolette why would Drury give the job to a first time coach when the aim is to win? personally i have always respected him as a coach bar Washington his players always play for him (in Washington theres clips of thier practice and him & Ovie clearly had difficulties all ovie wanted to was work on his shot while Laviolette is focusing on the team structure) however there were questions about whether he could still do it or could do it with this group. Laviolette has never been a media darling so is always going to be considered to be uninspiring but the guy has a proven reccord hes 7th in regular season wins and has a Stanley Cup in 2006 to his name
Marek is wrong about the Benn no-call. Dude left his feet upon contact, not to mention that he made contact with the head. At the very least, that's charging by the book, a penalty that the league seems to have forgotten despite its claim about player safety, which should not be take seriously.
Nah man that Benn hit was atleast worth 2mins. to call it nothing was just bs. then again the Avs literally gifted the stars 4 PPs so I wouldn’t worry as a fan. winning both @ home, without the slushy ice
Refs are calling penalties every time a player falls down so now players are diving. That's why the embellishment calls are being called so much. It's the playoffs. Stop calling soft penalties. Sometimes players just fall down. Sometimes they lose an edge. I liked it better when they let the players battle a little bit.
Elliot I disagree with your opinion of Jamie Benn not being a dirty player. 3 or 4 seasons ago he cross checked a helpless Dilan Larkin who was on his knees with a full cross check to the back of his neck right on the spine. Yes Benn was standing over Larkin facing him and pulled the stick back towards himself. Benn should have prosecuted after being suspended. Instead neither of these things happened and silence from Toronto. He is a dirty player and and a coward
Can't believe how badly the NHL product has declined in recent years. By my count, about one of every four players are minor league caliber. Worse yet, the same can be said of the referees, broadcasters and media as a whole. Fully expect the situation to get worse before it gets better. Gotta have a franchise in Atlanta, you know.

20:55 I couldn't disagree more. Benn has been dirty for years; last year was the referees and league finally making a call on him.
Absolutely right - Been is very dirty player and has been as long as I can remember
He has a reputation for getting away with injuring other teams players and has had it for at least 5 years
@@darthwispythat reputation is undeserved. Besides, Dylan Larkin who has he injured without punishment?

Nope it was clean
@@heatgrimm8664 Real hockey fans know the truth.
Go Nucks!!
As a rangers fan I wasn’t happy with hiring lavi but man was I wrong.
Vancouver in 5, trust me I’m from the future.
I'll come back here to confirm.
You obviously went to a different future
Shesterkin, a Russian, is possibly the best puck handling goalie.

Re: double-sports: didn't Alex Burrows win a championship in another sport during a lockout?
Patrick Maholmes was drafted by Detroit Tigers. Lions fans wished he went.
Is the talent show aspect of this hockey podcast getting a little old?
Elliotte choosing to completely ignore Benn vs. Detroit
Exactly. Larkins neck would like to talk to elliott
Keefe is a good coach.

Pasta is not a fighter, had no business fighting Tkachuk. Only punches he got in was when the refs were holding Tkachuk down, c'mon.....
That's not really the point
Marner to Pitt for Karlsson pp will be gangbusters
is it me or is Chris Krieder in the second round or further every year? no matter what team, he would look great as a leaf.
No what team? He's only ever played for the Rangers
Would love, absolutely love to see Joel quenneville as the Leafs new coach 🙏🙏🙏🙏
He isn't reinstated by the league
Hes an old codger. No way the players will relate to him or run through a wall for him
I don't see him getting Reinstated he lost his job in florida because of the allegations as good as a coach he is I kinda think he's done

Quenneville should never coach in the NHL again
always great to hear from the video coach , stay busy - schools out soon

You can add coaches and general managers to that list.
