    I'm an airbrushing modeler too. I started building model cars in the late '50s, added 1/24 scale slot cars in the '60s, & started airbrushing in 1970. For the first 35 years I mainly used lacquer, but I switched to all acrylics in 2005. One never knows it all & you never know too much. I've watched several of your videos & like their content & your way of presenting the topics. Videos on airbrush setup & cleaning are always interesting. I'm now in my mid-70s, so don't now do a lot of airbrushing, but I have subscribed so I can see your other videos. Many topics are useful to a variety of hobbies.

    As someone who lives in an apartment and can't really use a compressor and this is exactly what I need. I 3D print scale accessories for RC crawlers and this is exactly what I need to paint them. Thank you for the review.

      You are very welcome Michael. Thank you for letting me know my videos are helping. This is why I created my channel, to help. Oh and your going to love that airbrush system. I bought it just for the portable air compressor, but the airbrush that came with it is really decent. I wish when I first got started in airbrushing that my first airbrush was even a tenth as nice as the one that came in this portable airbrush kit...Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care and happy railroading....

    This particular portable airbrush compressor is working like a charm. I did a video on it a while back. It's the future of airbrushing.
    I wouldn't go for a different brand or type, I tried a cheaper one and it didn't work as well. So if you want to buy one, buy the one from this video.
    Nice channel, keep them coming !

      Thank you so much for the props. I appreciate it. I do need to say that I have recently reviewed a new portable airbrush kit that I think is actually better then this one. Don't get me wrong I do like this one also, but the one I just did a video for which is Ovaga is just a bit better. Thanks for watching.....

    Im glad people like this thing. I got one off amazon over the weekend solely based on site reviews. The listing for it says 32psi, and i was worried that wasnt enough, but am glad to hear most people use 20psi anyway. I have no experience, and only standard acrylic craft paints to work with (i may just get some air brush paints though to learn with however.). Just nice knowing i didnt get something terrible lmao.

    • @RoadsAndRailsHobbies

      I would definitely start out with airbrush paints. Using acrylic craft paints can be difficult and frustrating until you get used to thinning paints and knowing how your airbrush works. Don't forget to filter your paints, especially craft paints before loading them into your airbrush. Thank you for watching and commenting.

      I'm sure you will like it. It works just fine. I personally bought it just for the battery operated air compressor, but I was impressed with how well the airbrush itself worked. With that being said I still prefer to use my Iawata Eclipse airbrush. I can still feel the difference in quality, plus the standard Eclipse is just a tad bit easier to clean. It breaks down a little differently than many airbrushes. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care and happy railroading.....

      Frank. It is definitely a great way to start. For me just the portable compressor was well worth the price. I have higher end airbrushes that I prefer to use and it works great with them also. So basically I'm saying, start with this and when you are ready to upgrade then all you need to buy is an airbrush. Don't get me wrong. The airbrush that comes with this kit paints just fine, but there is still a difference between it and a 250 dollar plus airbrush. Thank you for watching. And please let know how you make out with your new kit and if you have any questions, I will be happy to help if I can. You can message me through Facebook. It's Paul's Railroad over there as well. primed a bunch of models with it. idk how well it works for painting a lifelike portrait but it did what i needed really well. going to use it for glow effects and things like colorshift paints that do better with thin even layers. seems to be just what i needed.

      Hey sr74. It does indeed work great for general modeling. However I have used it enough now to confirm my suspension about pressure drop off with extended use. Don't get me wrong it works great, but once that battery gets real low the air pressure definitely drops a noticeable amount. Definitely not something you want to happen during a fine art type of painting session. Still a fantastic purchase though. I use mine still all the time. Take care.

    • @s7r49
      @s7r49 9 місяців тому

      @PaulsRailroad makes sense. I used it for a half hour and it drooped only to 75% and I doubt if I'd use it for longer so I think it's prolly a good fit for me. I suppose if I were doing fine art on the go I'd just buy two and swap lol.

    Been quite a long time since I've done any airbrushing and trying to catch up to the latest equipment, paints, etc. Although I already have several brushes and a good compressor, I just ordered this kit thanks to your review and the great feedback on Amazon. Thank you.
    I do have a question on something a little different. What do you use to strip factory paint off of your models and how do you do it? I'm just getting ready to repaint my fleet of HO locos. Thanks again! Andy K. (Nashville Road)

    • @RoadsAndRailsHobbies
      @RoadsAndRailsHobbies  8 місяців тому

      Hey Andy. Everything that I have been painting has been raw without any previous paint on it. However if I were to repaint an plastic piece of rolling stock or engine I don't think I would take a chance on stripping it. I would be afraid of how a stripper would react with the plastic. I would simply spray either a white, gray, or black primer over it very lightly. Just enough to get the old color covered without too much buildup so you don't lose any details.

    • @andrewkeeney701
      @andrewkeeney701 8 місяців тому

      Thanks, Paul. A lot of us do strip the original paint before repainting. The biggest reason for it is that the lettering and paint lines will show through because of their thickness. The other problem that we have is that depending on the manufacturer, some will strip easy and others (like Kato) can be a real bugger to remove. Your thoughts are well taken. Thanks, Andy. @@RoadsAndRailsHobbies

    I bought something similar from a well-known online marketplace (not Amazon) and I have to say that the result was craptacular!
    The thing wouldn't even spray water.
    These things come with a minute nozzle and having unsuccessfully inspected that, I over tightened it with the little spanner and broke it. And there it sits, an object of my folly.
    I've found that the difference between a brand name and a generic ohm one is that with a brand one (iawata etc) you have access to parts.
    My suggestion in short: forget it.

    • @RoadsAndRailsHobbies
      @RoadsAndRailsHobbies  9 місяців тому

      Hey John. I couldn't agree with you more about buying the best quality that you can afford. I mention there fact in several of my other videos. I bought this item mainly for the portable air compressor. I myself was concerned with the airbrush capabilities. I've bought junk before and have had the same experience that had, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the airbrush that came with this kit actually worked. Now it will not compete with my Iwata's, but it is a great airbrush for first times wanting to get into the hobby with the least output of money. It sucks you had such a bad experience. Maybe I just got lucky.... Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it very much. Take care and happy railroading.......

      @@RoadsAndRailsHobbies yes, thank you for that.
      Dealing with this particular well known online marketplace is a bit like buying something off the back of a truck in a hotel carpark.
      The description of the item was, I suspect, the result of some creative cutting and pasting from other sources. In short, the money was refunded and I kept the item. My loss was about US$10.
      I'm a newbie to airbrushing so something like an Iawata is out for me. Thanks again.

    • @RoadsAndRailsHobbies
      @RoadsAndRailsHobbies  11 місяців тому

      Still going strong. The only downsides that I have come across. But both were known up front and expected. One you can't change the air pressure. Two, being battery operated, you only get about 30 to 45 minutes of continuous use before having to recharge it, and third. When the battery gets very low you can tell the difference in the air pressure output. But that doesn't happen until it is almost completely dead. I still use it more than my air compressor unless I know I'm going to have a long painting session.

    • @donta42

      That is a great question and as a matter of fact I tried that. Hey Estwilde. For the most part I have quit using my big air compressor all together. I have only been using this kits air compressor with my good airbrush though. Some of my painting sessions have been over an hour long, not continuous mind you, but I'll paint one part, change colors and paint another, etc. I am like you curious as to how long this portable compressor is going to "last". • @RoadsAndRailsHobbies
      @RoadsAndRailsHobbies  11 місяців тому

      Hi MontyGumby. You should always strain/filter your paints to remove any particulates that could potentially clog your airbrush. For me I use the inexpensive craft paints quite a bit to airbrush many of my projects and I find that in most instances the pigments in those paints are not ground up super fine and can be quite large in fact, so you would definitely want to filter them to ensure your airbrush will have no issues when using those paints.
