Emigrated to Mexico in 2017, visited the monument about 2 years ago. Really impressive close up I can tell you. Worth looking in to Chapultepec Castle too.
Not so much of the country, and more of the miraculous ability that the Mexican people could even pull enough resources together at that time to put up a monument period.
I saw many wonderful and vast things in Mexico. Even Luis Baragan's houses were built on a vast scale! But the Olympic stadium, and some of the many amazing cathedrals come to mind. But perhaps the greatest of all were the huge and ancient pyramids, with their amazing acoustic, just stand in front of them and clap, and then imagine the drums, voices, whistles and horns of the Olmec, Maya, Toltec and Aztec peoples in full performance. What a wonderful country, and wonderful people.
Megaproject Suggestion. Longest deep bore ice core in Antarctica. Took years, loads of drama with it and they found some cool stuff like a fresh water lake under the ice containing previously unknown lifeforms. Would go Well with the other hole projects that are popular Speaking of deep holes, how about the Kidd Mine as well?
¡Viva México! 👍👍 Muchas gracias, Simon por los videos y todo tú trabajo duro, es apreciado. I'm not mexican by the way but I just like the place a lot. it also helps I grew up about 200 miles from tijuana and many in my family would go down there a few times a year to shop and get medicine for cheaper prices, I fell in love with the food🌮 and nice pretty girls 😁 and sol 🍻 my kids are half Mexican 🇺🇸🇲🇽 what really surprised me about the place is how many people from China are there too. It was different to order Chinese food from people born in Mexico but of Chinese decent lol🤷🏻♂️ but wonderful none the less👍👍
Something most people don't know Tijuana was second to San Francisco as the biggest chinese migrant hub in the 19th century, no wonder there's still huge asian ethnic presence in the area cheers my man
So, the designers wanted a representation of mexico, and instead they got building that rusted for decades and changed from a majestic center of governance to a symbol of socialism turned into a tourist attraction. Those designers managed to do a formidable and near perfect job.
My grandpa asked me about about my Tupolev shirt yesterday I was like do u remember the Concorde it's the Russian version. He said "ohhh yeah it had problems." Lol
Excellent video, Simon! Could you do one about the Monumento a la Bandera, located in Rosario City- Argentina. I believe it is the only memorial flag in the world. and it is massive
What about a megaproject video on the Dom Cathedral in Cologne. Took 300 years to build. And houses the relics of the 3 wisemen. Nice Xmas Megaproject I would say.
Hey! Since you love Trains so much, how about a video about the Jungfraubahn? From it's initial plans over 100 years ago up until today, including the opening of the Eigerexpress as part of the V-Bahn. ( Including the Jungfraujoch complex. ) cheers from CH and thanks for the Gotthard Video btw
Fascinating story, didn't know it or even heard about it. In the end it was basically, we are going to built a grand palace to celebrate ourselfves, here is an arch now bugger off. Still great story.
Here is a megaproject. The USS Monitor. She may not have been huge, but the impact on naval warfare was massive. She ended wooden sailing warships and warships with rows of guns, had more than 40 patentable components, and the world's first rotating turret ever to be used in battle. She is the true ancestor to all modern warships.
Muy preciso, deberías enseñar historia acá en México, Chale. And to be honest there was nothing such as a civil war, as far as the name ask my own compatriots, anyway so accurate. I never thought you will make such a video of my country so thks Simon. I've been following you since you open this channel, by the way I don't remember how do I get here, but I like it.. just please make use of tiles for sponsors btw
I remember that you've done the empire state building, and another idea u could do is the Willis Tower in chicago (but every Chicagoan knows it's the Sears Tower), I'm pretty sure it was the tallest building in the world at one point
Fun fact: mexican revolution was also the deadliest war in all the Americas. About 1-2 million deaths, outrageously figgures even talk about 3 million. This episode was also an inspiration for the more famous Russian Revolution
One of the most mega projects would be the Sowjetisch-Deutsche Aktiengesellschaft Wismut (german for "soviet-german public company bismuth") who was the "most important company of the eastern powers" by some sources. It'd be great if you did a video about it.
Please make video on president house of India biggest residence of any head of state over the globe till now made during British India era now use by president of India
Simon you have some of the best writers getting around working for you. They deserve a Xmas bonus. Please let them out of your basement for 1 hour of daylight.
Well, there's always the Tyne & Wear Metro rail system, that was certainly quite the project while britain was suffering the tyranny of margret thatcher... :P
If it were not for the "socialism" with which Mexico has dabbled in the past century or so, Mexico would be as poor and corrupt as any stereotypical third world country.
I will not buy any of the items shown in commercials on UA-cam . Bunch of garbage , fitting I guess as the site has become a dumping ground for crap videos.
Simon, maybe a Megaproject or Sideproject on the Arecibo Telescope in Puerto Rico that just collapsed.
THIS! PLEASE!

It’s amazing that at least someone who is foreign to Mexico speaks marvels of this country !
Not so much of the country, and more of the miraculous ability that the Mexican people could even pull enough resources together at that time to put up a monument period.

What a wonderful country, and wonderful people.
As the son of a man who witnessed the tail end of the revolution, I really appreciated this. Thank you.
Nice to see you talking about my country, I learned somethings I didn't knew about that monument
Megaproject Suggestion. Longest deep bore ice core in Antarctica. Took years, loads of drama with it and they found some cool stuff like a fresh water lake under the ice containing previously unknown lifeforms. Would go Well with the other hole projects that are popular
Speaking of deep holes, how about the Kidd Mine as well?
Being someone from Missouri I’d love to see you do The Gateway Arch
I second this.
It IS amazing... Single largest use of stainless steel on earth.... etc. I also second this.... I, third, this?
Being someone from Finland I agree
Being from Illinois and am less than 45 mins from the Arch I agree, with extreme prejudice
Pretty sure he already did...

Hello Simon, would you be interested in doing a video on the Y40 deep dive pool in northern Italy? Or perhaps the proposed deepspot pool in the UK.

I remember that you've done the empire state building, and another idea u could do is the Willis Tower in chicago (but every Chicagoan knows it's the Sears Tower), I'm pretty sure it was the tallest building in the world at one point
It held the title for some 50 years as the world's tallest.
Triumphant arches don't have a ladder in the middle. That is a place to put a triumphant ladder in.
Nice concordski shirt Simon!
I was not expecting mexico city to show up anytime soon on megaprojects, you should also do the massive drainage system from the city and kyoto
I’m recommending the Canadian Pacific railway. It’s Canada’s version of the transcontinental railway. (Day one)

A nice shirt, but you're always pointing it out; makes me think that Mega Merch only has one thing for sale.
Maybe he is selling himself, also.
