Well worth a listen. Brings you back to England 100 years ago. Better times, and I really do love those local accents. Story is very good. Not far fetched like a US movie. Just the goings on in a small village. 10 out of 10👍
Imagine The Archers : but even less realistic and with local inhabitants who are even more brain dead than in Ambridge. ? If you have any painting to do - watch it drying instead of listening to this. Be more interesting...
Synopsis: An emotionally disturbed young man is the son of a prominent business owner in an English town during the WWI era. Unsuccessful at relationships, he keeps to himself and manages to avoid military service due to his pacifist views. When he decides to emerge from his shell and mix with the locals, he is hazed unmercifully by a few envious gents until he is befriended by a gregarious harlot. As he teeters on the brink of sanity, circumstances combine to alter the course of his life.
@@hsoderberg9929 No, the guys did not pay Lucy to talk to Jeffrey. Harlot does not always imply receiving payment. I used that word because that was her reputation in the play. Lucy subtly acknowledged this. You have to listen closely to get all of this.
Human jealousy & trickery can be meaninglessly cruel- vampirism of a sort, sucking the life from another to feel empowered. Why we have the word evil (live backwards).
Interesting themes explored but first 15 minutes is like a caricature of a particularly bad episode of the Archers .! Mummerset accents , yokels quaffing cider etc.. Get through that and it's worth a listen.!
So sad. Excellent production. Thank you for posting.

Much obliged James. ! Anything
with " gregarious harlots " sounds
very inviting .!
Do you think Lucy is a harlot? Did the men hire her to talk to him?

You've saved me from listening to something.
That was a very sad story. 😢

🤔
Yes, well said Evelan 💔
Evelan, very aptly put. I wholeheartedly agree.
So very sad
Listened to this before I went to bed and couldn't sleep as the upsetting ending haunted me.
I usually check to see what everyone say in the comments.... the sadness mentioned is very intriguing 🧐...
This was so painful to listen to. Such cruelty and ignorance.
Wow how sad 😭
This one may be my least favorite radio drama due to extreme sadness
very good ! bit sad as well though :(

B O R I N G! I'll stick to American stories. Much better!

Beautiful. But, I will admit that I thought John Cleese would gallop into frame with coconuts. Python has ruined my sense of expectation.
