@@isaac_volpe As long as there's no voltage left on circuits, it's fine. Usually you'd have to defuse the anode cap, but since it hadn't been powered on in a very long time, it wasn't necessary.

If a CRT was very recently on and the caps and/or anode have any charge stored up, water can definitely kill it. i found a little 20 inch orion tv set at an abandoned house that had not been ocupied for 16 years and for shits and giggles i picked it up and it worked when i plugged it in.
Back in the 80's I first saw a wall of 13" TV's. In the 90' s people started throwing them away or just abandoning them for something more flat. I began to collect them thinking I might make my own wall like in the 80's, maybe use them for security. I have about 8 or 9 in my attic now. Magnavox, RCA and other's. Of course now we can split screen. In 1999 I spent $900 on a Beast. A Hitachi Flat screen "32" with megabass sound system built in. To big to lift. I loved that thing but then we moved to the Flat panel and people started leaving those beasts at the curb in the 2010. Mine rests under the basement stairs awaiting my basement remodel.
Had a similar issue with front buttons on a slightly corroded sanyo before. Bad switches, went from open down to 4 meg when pressed instead of open to short. Replaced the switches and it worked just fine.

What how? It uses a crt in the crt tv. Crt tvs are, as far as i understand, and according to everything ive read, analog devices. If you can add some new perspective or knowledge by all means im all ears. @@RinoaL
CRTs have been controlled by digital electronics internally ever since 1973 or so, they have dedicated digital computers for them that use sometimes 4-bit memory or 8-bit memory. later on they used more complicated digital circuits but all of the signal was controlled digitally since the 1970s. that's how TVs got smaller. The only analog aspect that remained was the signal itself, NTSC being analog. TVs are a genuinely amazing bit of technology where they became a strange mix of solid-state analog and digital technology. Chips in the 1980s that controlled TVs started packing circuits inside them that would simultaneously handle analog data along with digital circuits. Then again, in the end, analog and digital are about the same thing when you look closely. As the saying goes "The only difference between digital engineers and analog engineers is one knows they just created an RF source." lol.

Hi. I finally got my first 486 computer back, but it broke during shipping. I think the CRT is broken. I have a video about it in my channel. I know I can die btw but I try to repair it anyway. So the crt get's voltage, I can hear the sparkling, and when I turn of the monitor the screen has a flash of light. There is a fain glow on the back of the tube. My brother measured the video signal and that seams to be fine. The screen is completely dark though. There must be some mechanical problem, since it broke during shipping. It came in several pieces. What is most likely the cause? If you are able to help me I would be very grateful.

That's most likely a slot mask/shadowmask type CRT. Sony's Trinitron patent (the trade mark for the name didn't expire though so they just can't brand it as Trinitron) did run out by the time this TV came out, but off brand Trinitrons where more common in the PC monitor market as Trinitrons are a more expensive design to produce and if any non Sony TVs had it it would have been the premium brands. Definitely not Sanyo. That's the el cheapo Wal-Mart garbage brand. :P The flat tube design is a thing most TVs and CRT monitors started to have during the early 2000's in an attempt to cut down on glare and also replicate the look of flat panels which were starting to compete with CRTs at the time. I personally don't like flat tube era CRTs as they tend to have geometry issues. The curved tubes tended to have the better geometry/convergence. Oh also the flat tube CRTs tended to be heavier because the flat tube glass has to be thicker to support the vacuum inside. Curved glass resists atmosphereic pressure better hence why the flat tube stuff was heavier. Trinitrons in general were heavier too because even the old ones from the curved tube era still had a flatness on vertical axis due to design requirement so the glass is heavier for Trinitrons in general.
I have the Sony version of that, it's 18 years old and only recently stopped working. We have a RCA console tv from the mid 80's that still works fine.

Remember kids, after you open your CRT... Rememner to discharge it first!😊

i found my new wife

You are literally mad for just touching that thing with your bare hands...
i found a little 20 inch orion tv set at an abandoned house that had not been ocupied for 16 years and for shits and giggles i picked it up and it worked when i plugged it in.
OMG you still keep the NES. What a treasure. Me so jealous
have 4 of them actually
Alfred Schlicht nes are common and cheap, hows it a treasure
@@unlovableshinshin they are not they are getting more expensive everytime
I am just because they aren’t throwaway cheap like PS1s/PS2s doesn’t mean there anything special

Am I the only one bothered by that piece of tape on the screen?

It would not seem like a good idea to spray it with a hose. But like you say "Oh Well!" Reading down this practice is common I see. Cool beans.
Very common in tv repair
Had a similar issue with front buttons on a slightly corroded sanyo before. Bad switches, went from open down to 4 meg when pressed instead of open to short. Replaced the switches and it worked just fine.
This sort old fashion Tv even unplugged has 30000 volts inside ! So knowledge is power , first understand how to discharge it and then clean it because it can kill you with massive electric shock in a second!!??? I hope people who haven't this knowledge don't open Tv and don't kill themself!?
if it is sitting for years it discharges itself.
@@RinoaL Hi. BUT YOU must mentioned . You are responsible about people who don't know it. Please make a note about it. Thanks. Good luck
@@dariusnickmanesh3592 On these TVs there are stickers and/or imprints everywhere telling you not to open it due to risk of electric shock. So if you open it up anyway you are ought to know what you are doing. No need to mention the danger here.
Sanyo made some good stuff. I still use a small TV I bought in 1984. I loss the remote but the front panel has access to all functions.
you can buy a cheap universal remote . it will work fine
C'mon i get it it's cool tv but you need to try an lcd or oled
@@IAm-zo1bo LCDs are trash.
@@IAm-zo1bo i‘m pretty sure they have tried that
it requires a remote to activate the inputs
You have to turn it until it gets to the inputs you want. Go to channel 2 and press the down channel button on tv and it takes you to video 3, 2 and 1
Im still using my samsung crt tv to this day, just have to use roku device to be able to watch Netflix and what not on it,
And it very useful in the winter as it warms up the room with the usual heat these crt tvs creates.
I just found one of these that someone had thrown out and was messing with it yesterday. I couldn't believe there was no way to select inputs without the remote! I set my universal remote easily enough to it but then accidently pressed the reset button twice because it had been assigned to the down arrow button automatically. It forces a channel scan that needs to try a few times in a row before giving you control of the TV back even if you unplug it. Nice CRT though, especially once I get the picture set just right.
Great video!
The buttons have corrosion...need a chemical bath of the pcb
wouldnt be surprised, but i found drying changed them a lot so i bet they are still wet.
These are good almost as good as the bottle hunting and metal detecting :D
& here I was scared to soak my motherboard in 90% alcohol ,cleaning it with a soft brush & letting it sit for a few days 😅
I had a shaking image on a crt that was under the rain for a few days, it went away and became normal after a few days
Probably cracked solder joints here and there, just touch up as many joints as you can with fresh solder.
no its still wet.
There are flat screen Shadowmask screens which that most like is a flat screen Shadowmask
We have had an old lg sitting in our shed for years I thought I would see if it worked and it did I plugged in my Xbox 360 and was on it for ages. Also I love this video, good job on fixing it
Thats not a knock off sanyo tv sanyo is a really good tv company last good years so it can possibly be still working before you clean it it was just dust covering the mother board preventing it from working also do not wash electronics with water and use it its a dumb idea also thats not a knockoff it was the only tv that beat Trinitron you washing the tv is making the tv a piece of garbage.
washing circuits is actually something thats is perfectly fine for professionals to do in a restoration. This got rained on after all, and water doesnt normally corrode most circuit boards if allowed to dry
its possible that there is some water damage..........................................
this is a not proper to clean for crt becouse the capacitor thy my couse leak and other component
Nunca vi ninguém a lavar um tv com água e muito menos a tv funcionar depois de levar água em cima!🤣🤣🤣
Love it how you pursue things then call them a fucking piece of shit. X
well.... most of the things i pursue are, and kinda the people too, but thats a different story because i dont tell that to their face like i would a shitty TV... ◜◦¬◦◝ lol
So satisfying watching that water hose clean it up
cleaning electronic with water....jesus x_x oxidation is coming ftw
cleanign a tv with water its the worst idea
actually no, because this tv was outside for a long time already with not much rust. circuits dont really use rustable metals anymore. that is why many people wash motherboards in dishwashers now
the picture died when you picked it up.

I Wouldn’t Spray Water on the CRT You probably could’ve ended up With a Cloudy Image. And All The Jittering Is Most Likely Just A Weak RF Connection. Just some Advice
CORRECTION: Nevermind I Didn’t notice you using the AV Jacks
3:58 She started talking about being worried about voltage in transformer than I hear the water gun sound really loud. I thought she and the board went up in flames as the transformer exploded. Needless to say, that scared the crap out of me.
Wait.. you titled this a repair and restoration ? You literally hosed down a CRT with a hose... lol funny as hell
yes and? how does getting it working not a repair?
@@RinoaL well if a misfiring car got dirty and you hosed it down, it would still be misfiring. Good video though :)
I had heard tell of people using the dishwasher, but I was a bit skeptical. Analogue tech was just built better I suppose. Good find!
Almost nothing about this is analog tbh, just the signal it handles.
I'm surprised the just hosing it off brought it back to life. Somewhat.
Really nice video, thank you! I love old electronic gear, especially Sanyo
Lol - motherboard
Thats what they’re called.
Its the main PCB. All the other smaller boards are called “Daughter Boards”
Legacy of the Wizard! I haven't seen that game in years
who was your favorite character to play in it?
I think it was the daughter. I'm assuming they were a family. I never liked using that strange Kirby-like pet they had. I never did beat that game. If you can ever find one called Dungeon Magic, try it out too.
well the daughter jumps super high, and the kirby-like pet (actually bubble-bobble character i think) has the advantage that he doesnt get attacked by enemies. seem to remember his name is Pochi. the thing is in order to defeat the game you have to play all characters. and yeah i'll definitly keep an eye out for Dungeon Magic
This channel is underrated 😢😢 9:23
Wow, she actually fucking hosed all the stuff. Well, I guess the TV was beyond salvation to many when initially found.
My 1972 Sony trinitron doesn't turn on its dead should I spray it water hose than it would work? Lol
only if its muddy
@@RinoaL its not muddy its very dusty tho
There's water pooling up now lol😂
If you are able to help me I would be very grateful.
testing this with a NES how cool is that? :D
I have an NES
Did u ever get it working right completely? I have a 32 in that’s older. Kinda similar to what this is. It’s black
I haven't turned it on it years, but I suspect it needed more time to dry out.
@@RinoaL Oh ok
@@RinoaL You can get an RCA universal remote and put the code in and you’ll have access to the inputs
@@RinoaL or just grab an old dish remote or something. Look the code up online
@@RinoaL Mines the same way. Can’t access the video input without a remote. I’ve also got a smaller sharp CRT that you can access it by changing channels but the menu you need a remote to access.
Sure got a lot farther with it than I would expect. Thanks Brian 78
Not Trinitron knock-off. The LG Flatron and Mitsubushi Diamondtron were Trinitron knock-offs. This is plain old In-Line CRT, just flat screen.
Hey is your Sanyo CRT here a 32” set? Or 27”?
Im not sure. I moved across the country but I feel like this one is a 27” one
So that TV can sit outside for years and get sprayed down with the hose and it still works but my CRT broke for me using it normally?! This isn’t fair😠
Only use distilled water, contact cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol when cleaning circuit boards. You will short/corrode something using tap water.
BAD SATELLITE SIGNAL!!!!!!
People flip out when you hose down electronics. Watter is only dangerous if there is current running through. If the device has been powered off and all the caps are discharged then hose away. I literally put a laptop motherboard in the dishwasher because it was filthy.
This tv gona explode
Do you still have this Sanyo in your possession to this day?
Yeah I do
Now that's some good TV .)
wait wtf why did she spray the tv with water like it was nothin?
Because it was already out in the rain for weeks, so it was nothin.
ja pierdole XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Absolutely amazing
The jittering in the picture indicates that something is wrong with the horizontal sync.
Found the exact same tv sitting in front of a driveway in the middle of the pine barrens in nj love it so much
P.S you need a universal remote to switch channels
Yeah. By the way, did you know Steve Wozniak invented the universal remote?

I would say if anybody was to get the appreciation for the smartphone, it would be the company Handspring which did that stuff first and inspired other companies. Apple isn't first on their tech, they just give it a consistent vision.
I was the 700th like lol
I bought one of these brand new at Walmart circa 2004 and still watch it. Never died yet. A universal remote from Walmart will access the inputs.
time dodo
And thats not knock off
That's most likely a slot mask/shadowmask type CRT. :P
The flat tube design is a thing most TVs and CRT monitors started to have during the early 2000's in an attempt to cut down on glare and also replicate the look of flat panels which were starting to compete with CRTs at the time.
C0D
This is not Trinitron
nobody ever said it was.
@@RinoaL Trinitron is a Sony system, it meant that the TV has a rounded CRT and has a mesh in CRT to better "transmit" electrons.
@@RinoaL but great resoration
@@RinoaL And sorry I misunderstood with this trinitron, I honor you
yeah this is a knockoff of the trinitron, which also had a flat screen in later models.
I have the Sony version of that, it's 18 years old and only recently stopped working. We have a RCA console tv from the mid 80's that still works fine.
Very intelligent
