I have seen hundreds of gigs in the past 37 years and I have seen Nick Cave now twice (2022 and this week in Oberhausen) and those are certainly amongst the best I have ever seen. His stage presence is out of this world and the band is fucking brilliant!
In 1983 here in Australia I went to a local university hall and watched The Birthday Party and had the exact reaction you did. I have now seen him every tour since at least once and have never been disappointed. I can only say that you are in for a real treat when you witness the Mercy Seat live. Love your enthusiasm! BTW there is a documentary called Mutiny in Heaven about The Birthday Party I highly recommend anyone who is interested in Nick to watch. Cheers.
I totally agree with you. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are always at the top of their game, but the Wild God experience is an incredible journey never experienced before.
Thank you for this review! I saw 👀 him in Stockholm last Thursday. First time and didn’t know what to expect. Loved every minute of it! It will stay with me as one of the best shows I ever seen.
Thank you for sharing your emotional review. I may say that I totally agree with you...also with the performance of RRH. I am also impressed with the last Nick Cave show I attended in Budapest. One of my most exciting performances. As you said: mesmerizing!!!
I was at the Ziggo Dome on the same night as you. Your review is excellent and puts into words many of the feelings I had about the performance and the whole evening. Thanks
I went the 26. Nick has such amazing energy, the concert felt like a sermon, and it made me understand how religious people must feel. It felt personal, it sounded amazing and true. The only track I missed, and was hoping to hear in the encore is "Higgs Boson Blues", but at the same time I wouldn't know which track to leave out of the set list. Absolutely stellar, so glad I found out in time and decided to go.
Could not agree more with your whole take on the concert we were at the ziggo dome on the friday night, it was astonishing how connected he was to the audience, aura, charisma, authenticity and a velvet voice. We left and immediately started looking for tickets in dublin where we live, thankfully we managed to get tickets and can't wait to see the show again in November. Thanks again for posting.
Could'nt agree more, I was there too. It was the best concert I have ever attended, with his concert in Amsterdam 2019 second. Nick Cave truly has a mesmerizing stage presence. He is really the Priest of Rock, he gives his all (and his band too)
@@top5records796 Sorry, I am mistaken, it was 2017. A great show, in support of Skeleton Tree. With Distant Sky as a standout, the beautiful voice of Else Torp echoing through the room. Nick announced that he would attend the same venue beginning 2020 again, in support of Ghosteen. It was cancelled due to Covid. We were so happy that we got to see him again though. The Wild God tour tops everything. There seems to be no limit to his creativity!
Dankje well. Thanks a lot, bro. Saw Nick 2 days after his 67th birthday (don't know, whether he had a party) at Oberhausen at the tour opening. Third time after 1997 and 2014 that I saw him on stage. The new songs were performed with the Gospel choir in such a vibrant way - but they also got into the older songs in amazing ways. Tupelo with Colin Greenwood's bass line was even more of a wild drama than the song ever had been. His and particularly Warren Ellis' presence o stage: as you said: mesmerizing.
I was there as well on friday! It was amazing! I loved it so much. I thought the crowd was a bit subdued, but everyone was really there, in the moment, and listening. It was great!!
Vividly contagious to listen to your reviews. I am going this Wednesday in Oslo. I’ve seen him a couple of times in my life, and it is always mesmerizing. I can recommend his book Faith, Hope and Carnage. All the best.
Hey man, thanks for the review. I love your enthusiasm, which I totally share. However, I have to say that this was not my best concert ever, but my second best. The best concert ever for me has to be Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds live at Best Kept Secret Festival 2022. That concert was a 10+ for me, which makes this a 9 for me, even though I was standing almost front row. So you may ask wat made the Best Kept Secret so great? Well, beforehand there was this tension after the sudden passing away of NC’s second son, just a month prior to the concert. I guess many people would have guessed he’d cancel the show. Then, there was the setting: the beautiful summer weather, attending a concert on a warm summer night while the sun sets… just awesome. There was the audience, which where clearly not all Nick Cave fans, and he completely won the crowd over. The the set… the songs from Ghosteen are just a bit more intimate that those on Wild God (which I also love live). Nick was repeating words of songs throughout the concert as a mantra: crycrycry… boomboomboom (feel my heartbeat, putting the hands of audience members on his chest), justbreathejustbreathejustbreathe… look it up, it was truly magnificent. The set ended with Ghosteen Speaks, where he has the whole audience rhythmically lifting their arms as if in a mass. To me, that did not just feel like an end of the shoe, but a resolution from all the tension built up. But hey, this was just my experience. I’m glad you enjoyed the show and I fully agree with everything you said. Let’s just agree he is one of the very best performers alive in this time, and as far as I am concerned he is at a peak moment. What can come after this?
I don't do big gigs any more, either. Except. I made - after much reluctance - an exception for what was my first Cave concert a few days ago. And boy am I glad I did.
Ik was ook bij dit optreden, mijn eerste nick cave show. Ik vond het een top show! Kippenvel bij ' oh children..' zelfs in zo'n grote zaal waar je bijna niets van het podium ziet.
Jeff Martin from the Tea Party has the same presence, completely captivates the audience and creates a MOMENT that everyone who shares it never forgets.
Oh, by the way, rather than tell my friends what the experience was like, I’m just going to play you opening monologue. You put into words the experience better than I could. Your English is as a native.
Thank you for posting all these great Nick Cave reviews! I'm going to hear him and the band twice in Copenhagen next weekend. I will do my best to get a front row spot, so could you please tell me for how long the support act Dry Cleaning were playing? Did Nick Cave go on stage exactly an hour after doors opened?
In my experience (was there Thursday and have been to Cave before) he is always right on time. If you want a front row place, however, I advise you to go in the moment the doors open.
Going to see him in Stockholm this Thursday. Great to know when he actually starts to play since I have to time it with the newborn’s sleeping schedule 🫣😁
I think some kind of the presence of The Holy Spirit for so long the heart is looking for The Lord with an honesty of feelings of suffering and the reaction of the human heart on this and the beautiful gospel choir uplifting. Read his book Hope, Faith and Carnage 😊. You have a great vinyl collection behind you ;-)
I read two reviews of the first Ziggo Dome concert, which weren't this positive. Both said atmosphere was lacking, especially with the new(er) material. Unfortunately, I couldn't come to the concerts because I was working. I would have loved to see the show though.
Which negative reviews? I found one that was a bit less positive (Parool), but every other review was (very) positive. 5 stars by Volkskrant, 5 stars in NRC, a very positive Oor review,...
Probably the best performer i have ever seen.. Saw him in 1983 with the Birthday party live and he was mesmerising even back then and had a stage presence unlike anyone i have ever seen and i have seen many many bands.

Watched them last night in Cardiff, first time for us, my wife and I were blown away. Absolutely fucking amazing.

I just bought tickets for next Friday in Munich, so I'm really excited now!!!
Best live band ever since 80s
Waiting for him for his North American tour in 2025. He was great in his solo tour in 23.

I''ll go to see him in Madrid next month! It will be my first nick cave gig! so inspiring listen to you! thank you
You’ll have an awesome evening!
I was there too the same evening, and i fully agree. It was really one of the best concerts i’ve ever seen. What a magnificent show we’ve seen ❤
Excellent review. Seeing him next month. I was a bit worried but after your review I’m looking forward to it.
You’re really lucky! Where will you see him?
Wow man, your review is fantastic. You have a natural gift for sharing your passion.
Thank you!
I was there as well on friday! It was amazing! I loved it so much. I thought the crowd was a bit subdued, but everyone was really there, in the moment, and listening. It was great!!
Saw Nick Cave & The Best Seeds in 2017 and it was my favorite concert ever. Gonna see them again in Prague on October 17.

Zo te horen had ik ook bij Best Kept Secret moeten zijn! Het was idd een heel keurige zaal!
What a great review! I"d love to go but won't- don't go to big concerts any more- but wow. Wow oh Wow
I don't do big gigs any more, either. Except. I made - after much reluctance - an exception for what was my first Cave concert a few days ago. And boy am I glad I did.
Great review. I’m going to see them in the O2 , London in November
I had totally the same experience 3 days ago. A once in a lifetime momentum.
I’m happy to hear that!
Thanks for the review! I think there are still available tickets here for Budapest show. You are welcome here on the darker side of the EU ;)
Sounds very tempting!

absolutely nailed it man
Thank you!
prachtige recensie, kijk al erg uit naar concert in Antwerpen

I believe they played a little less of an hout.
And no: it took about half an hour after the support act before he got on stage. He played half an hour later than the official time.

Copenhagen tonight❤
30.09. Berlin: this concert is within my Top 5 Concerts ever. And i am not even a NC „Fan“.

Don''t believe the negative reviews. Believe the positive. I was there and was moved by every song, the new material is great!
I also read those reviews of the first night. I was there at the second though.

Birmingham
Great performance and interaction with a crowd but very poor setlist!
