Excellent advice on spacing. I struggled with that for so long. For straight letters, I always shoot for a cans width and a cans width on both sides for a good drop shadow. If that makes sense haha. That's my best spacing tip.
I've been painting for a good 7+ years and I still find this pretty informational, if anything I'm definitely going to show a few of my mates who are newer at writing might help them understand sizing of letters a little more might even help myself out every once in a while I write Lime by the way if you want to do a hit up for name exchange
@@Theartistblock The LI gives me the most problems generally it’s the I that I struggle with, over years I’ve slowly managed to figure out some ways of helping them work together
Something you did that I think snuck under the radar but is pretty clever - you didn't take your fill layer all the way up to certain overlapping lines and left a thin strip of unpainted wall basically to keep a reference of where your letter structure was when it overlapped other letters (as it'd get lost otherwise cause you were using the same colour). Eg 3:50 around the EA merge and the SE merge Ps: I loved the little sit down yarn in the middle- this must be what having proper mentors must feel like 😊 PPS: cold weather RULES PPPS: not my name, but if you do me a 'SOOTHE' I'll do you a Grim on my closest legal and post the result to insta - let me know!
This just became my favorite video you’ve posted. Super helpful. The best part is just watching you paint. Wait, maybe it’s the stories. Real question though: are you treating descenders (none in this word) as if they travel the same distance as your x height to cap height? I’m assuming ascenders go to cap height. Do you have any special character sets or ligatures that you love to write?
Love these videos! Thanks so much for helping people like myself starting out. One question - do you have any recommendations of materials to spray onto that doesn't require an illegal wall? I'm considering putting a mock wall up somewhere to work on and paint over. Cheers.
If you would of told me 10+ years ago I would be at work watching my boy do a UA-cam video tutorial I would of called you a liar. My fucking boy I’m so proud of you man. ACS ALL DAY
Absolutely sick. I'm not good enough yet to dare attempt a name exchange but seeing how you would do "numb" or "hokage" would give some great tips for me.
My name is hrod, I haven't drawn so much complicated pieces since I'm a beginner writer, so that would be interesting. Thanks man, you content is awesome
yoooo amazing vid and it helped a lot, full process vids would be awesome if you go thru your thought process while going in && always love random storytimes 😎 ~soul
Lol when I sat down to edit this and saw that all the painting footage combined was only 14 min ( with paint shaking, instagram breaks and such) I figured full paint alongside may not be bad
Ease?? That may or may not be my name as well 😂 but jokes aside its sick to see how you rocked those letters compared to someone less experienced like myself. I definitely would like to see full piecing videos!
can you do a video break down on how asoter from kog an sauuteezy do there art work they seem to both have a different inverter technique , i dont think you done a video of that style graff .. dope vids
What are some techniques I can use to stop the paint from dripping? I’d imagine it’s like most other things, the only way I learn is by actually doing something
Your body is a very good ruler for graffiti & murals, Leonardo Divinci difined those proportions of the human body in his Vitruvian Man image, and once you're an adult those proportions of your limbs/body never change so you consistently get the same proportions if you use your body to size & space your letters or image
Not even a full can if I remember right. Maybe 1 full blue. As far as sketching it, I only sketched it twice just for fun because I liked the cap I was using but there was no need for the second sketch
Great tips that even I can use I've never painted before but I do draw graffiti and recently posted a vid with some of my work would love to see how you drop my name it "dumbo" it's an old family name that I didn't pick and I struggle writing it some times
I see a lot of UA-cam writers using doodle grid. As someone who’s been doing this for years how do you feel about that? I do see it as being easier, but also feel it’s cheating somewhat. ?
Name is "jusayn" if you a blocked type letter ive messed around with the concept of the S and the A being larger while other letters taper down. I have gotten alot of fundamental knowledge while doing other medias you have gave much insight in how i go about things in graffit. Mucho beuno bruh!👉🤛
I just had a graffiti fail. I used a dabber and wrote under bloms but my word went up into his tags space with a stupid curve from writing at home on paper. I've had really bad fails before but this really annoyed me because I'm trying not to be toy.
Thanks dude I really appreciate that! Also, the right side if your name is heeeeeeeeavy dude lol. Lucky for you you have a D and M on the left to balance. Idk if my wall is large enough for this name but I wouldnt mind trying it one day
I go by "shadow" I've been struggling on how to figure out how to make a good tag from it I have the bubble letters for my piece all figured out but can't make it work for a clean tag
found ur channel the other week been binging since. Great solid info, love that how u talk about the fundamentals transfers over from fundamentals i learned from comics n concept. Have learned heaps about lettering and have been able to apply ur tips. Tag is "Grillah", do we shoot a name exchange to ur email? Much love from Western Sydney 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I want to speak out about something that bothers me that I see people do a lot of times. Do NOT paint with your arm paint with your body, learn to do that and everything becomes easier and better. Tldr; dont drag your arm across the piece, keep your arm steady, move those hips baby.
Love how the shines weren't white n was more of a periwinkle. All 1 color, just different shades. Coincidence cuz thats the type of color scheme i been playin with
Pretty much. I had tried out particle board and tbh I think that's better but it's also more dense and as a result its unreasonably heavy at 4ft by 8ft . Each panel was like 100 or 120 lbs for particle board. Plywood was much easier but the surface wasnt as nice. With that said ply wood is more than great for a fake wall inside the house. It's a bit flimsy and not weather proof so it's a little less good outside if you don't prep it and take care of it
I'm not implying, I've already proven it. anything can be taught, just requires that the person teaching actually knows what they're talking about. People who don't think something can be taught simply don't know enough to teach, being why they think the topic is unteachable. I've been teaching graffiti for almost 20, I get results with the teaching, meaning it can factually be taught. Also, never went to art school, did a vid on that too but it's a total waste of money so looks like your whole assessment of me is not only wrong but tells us more about you than anything. good job.
If only you was around or at least knew you exited back when I was in highschool, I would have been way better now that I'm 25, but never too late to learn.
@@tamax229 I mean I'm at the very least competent. I would like to say im not a toy, but at the same time I feel like I'll always be a toy. Where im living atm having a mentor is outta the question. There aren't really any writers in my city and surrounding area. And definitely no kings. Im asking Grim bc he said to write our names in the comment section, and I was mentioning what I tend tto struggle with lol. Im very confident in my handstyle with both hands and backwards, and my throwies arent that bad either. I just feel stuck with my peices and dont know how else to evolve other than asking online writers like grim
one thing im learning from these videos is plenty of you guys have really unique names. i love the name yetzu, definitely a high style threshold name, not something you see too often.
lol no one is sitting there measuring when bombing, but its more something you get the muscle memory for. many peoples throw ups end up being roughly the sizes mentioned.
If you need to do this you need stay in your books and work on your straights more then only spray straights until you’re comfortable with your weight and try spraying other funky shit after that
I have to disagree, the books and walls are a whole different ball game. No amount of practice in the books will prepare you for walls. Sure books will help your elements of art and artform specific fundamentals, those being the two major determining factors of skill but books dont teach you techniques on walls and that's exactly the issue this video is about, technique on walls. Iv seen it myself, if you take 2 people, a day 1 graffiti artist and a 5 year graffiti artist who've only rocked books, they're both going to struggle equally with technique on walls. Sure the 5 year dude will have a better understanding of letters and how that works but his lines will be sloppy, and his letters may not be scaled or placed well, once again showing the unfamiliarity with walls. Dude, I appreciate the comment and I appreciate what you added to the conversation, I hope you dont mind my responses. Have a wonderful holiday if you celebrate

Great video, for me proportions is the most difficult part when painting on the wall, so its really useful information for me.
Never a problem buddy I'm glad it was useful. Seems plenty of people struggle on this topic
