I think the reason why sometimes nothing spawns is because there may be another crew that spawned a meg on them in that same region.
blah blah blah
You might be right!
@@lentelsyour a blah blah blah
“Meg spawns are totally unpredictable”
Me who gets one EVERY TIME I am fighting another ship
“Ya totally unpredictable”
THAT'S ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE AT BEST
A note: You do not need to specifically sail out of the shores of gold at U1. Leaving the Shores of Gold will spawn you a Meg from whichever side you leave from.
Confirmed, I head straight to to Galleon's Grave every time and it still works
@@smirkstudios well that’s nice so you can sell anything you can get quickly
@@RipplyAnemone67 So true!
But it’s more common at the edge of the map past the shores of gold which is basically U1
@@fus1ond4rk27 For me I don't even have to do the tall tale, if you just hang out on the edge of the map by Galleon's in that area it spawns fairly frequently.
Back before they made the megalodon spawn pretty much everywhere in open waters (aka before current season) I made a lot of extensive testing regarding meg spawns (and posted my results on reddit) that boil down to:
1. Meg spawns roughly every 1 hour 20 minutes (ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, with most of them being very close to the 1 hour 20 minutes mark) regardless of what you are doing as long as your ship isn't anchored and sailed out of the calm waters at least once during your current session (I think it's a trigger for the start of the timer, but I can't be sure).
2. Only one meg can spawn at the same time per region, meaning if a crew spawned a meg on the other side of the region you are in, no megs will spawn for you until that meg is dead.
3. Abandoned megs don't despawn for around 3 hours, meaning if a crew abandoned their meg in the region you won't get any spawns for yourself for that amount of time.
4. Each crew has a separate meg spawn timer, meaning you can sail together with another crew to effectively increase your spawn rates (just don't forget to at the very least tag the megalodon so that the kill would count towards both crews).
5. Megs or any other emerging encounter can't spawn in calm waters produced by active wrecks. In case of megalodons, if you want to fish for wrekers while still getting meg spawns, it can be bypassed by parking right outside of those calm waters with your ship facing the wreck and fishing from the bow of the ship, since that way megs will have enough room to spawn behind your vessel.
6. Emerging skeleton ships and megalodons have separate but similar timers, following pretty much the same logic as megs, however you can't have both spawn at the same time in the same region, meaning that once again there's a problem of some other crew abandoning their emerging encounters, but with skeleships it's a bit simpler, since they despawn way faster, and since the timer will be going all this time, as soon as it does you'll get pretty much an instant meg spawn.
7. Getting sunk/participating in hourglass battle/server merging/server hopping via pirate's life portals resets your timers. Participating in hourglass battle was a big one at the time I was making my testing, since it was around the time they were introduced and that correlated heavily with players overall having much less encounters with megs and players who avoided hourglass getting way more consistent meg spawns.
8. While ships participating in hourglass can't spawn megs, if a third ship were to be in the area hourglass battle takes place in, it can still spawn megs.
9. Dropping anchor doesn't reset your timer, but it seems to pause it.
10. Before season 9 it used to be that megs spawned only in very specific spots on the map, not just in any open waters (those spots were well documented by the guys at merfolkslullaby), but with season 9 they pretty much now spawn anywhere in open waters except for skeleton fleet arena space and spaces dedicated for legends of the veil and pirate's life part 5 battles. I haven't kept statistics after season 9 launch, but I pretty much get consistent meg spawns almost every session as long as I don't do anything that resets my timer.
If we extrapolate from those findings, the common myth of "you have to spend some time at shores of gold to get those spawns" can be reduced to:
1. It correlates to the amount of time between meg spawns
2. Emerging encounters can't occur in the shroud, but since the timer is going during you being there, as soon as you leave it you will get instant encounter spawn.
3. Both Devil's roar and the Wilds regions are not as popular, meaning that not a lot of crews will be sailing there at the same time, both reducing the chance that another crew will have an emerging encounter when you are in that region and that they will be in a situation that leads them to abandoning it, meaning much more consistent spawns in those regions and that's exactly the regions you emerge from the shroud to.
So in conclusion, the best way to farm megalodons is to just park your boat unanchored in open waters in an unpopular region and wait. Maybe with a fishing rod in hand and plenty of bait to catch up on fishing achivements/milestones. If you want to be more productive, just do whatever it is you want to do, making sure to sail out into open waters every 1,5 hours or so and park there until you get a meg spawn and if you don't get one within 10-20 minutes, sail to some other region (it should spawn instantly unless the other region is spawnblocked too).
I'm pretty adamant in all of that info, since I have had a "pleasure" of working with around 200 megs sample size. Still didn't get a Shrouded tho.
Holy shit this is incredible work
Back in Season 7 when I was grinding my Reaper commendations, very frequently we'd be chasing a ship that was trying to red-sea themselves. At the point where we were about 1 block away from the red sea, often the running ship would get a meg spawning on them and almost as often we would get a second meg spawning on us. It seems to me that this contradicts your theory that there can only be one meg spawn per region. I'm curious if you might have an explanation for this? Perhaps getting close to the red sea means you are no longer inside a specific region?
@@j.r.773 perhaps so, especially when we are talking about big and empty southern part of the map. Technically, as far as I know it's still a part of the closest regions, indicated by the sea color and fish that spawn there, but it can be wrong. I've done almost all of my deliberate meg hunting either between or near islands and sometimes on the borders of different regions to reduce the time it took to sail to another region in case of apparent regionlock (which didn't happen too often, but did occasionally occur). Closest thing to what you describe that happened to me was a second meg spawning mere seconds after we killed the first one when I was approached by a random brig each one having the amount of health correlated to the shiptype, second one having more health. The only time I had multiple emerging events happen at the same time was when I was sailing from one region to another, having a skele ship spawn before entering another region and meg spawning right after while the skele ship was still up. Perhaps when that occured you were sailing between the regions on the western and/or northern borders of the map and they just spawned in different regions. Megs can cross region borders if there are no islands or large rocks in their way while chasing a ship, that one I've tested myself, making a meg chase me basically from the border of ancient isles through the whole western border of the map in ancient isles into the wilds region. I don't exactly know how that interacts in regards to the golden rule of one encounter per region, but I'd assume that the meg is so to speak tied to the region it spawned in.
I ain’t reading all that
I have a lot of questions :0 (also are you several turnover?)

I think I may have found a faster way Toxie. If you do the checkpoint at the last Pirates Life tall tale (Lords of the Sea: Final Chapter) where you have to match up against Davey Jones, you can cancel out of the quest to spawn an emergent event. It takes like 10 minutes to set up, sail to, and cancel out of the quest.
I'll give this a try soon! Thank you!
This didnt work for me
Does a kraken spawn too?
@@TankFromThe5560could happen yes
@@freakshow_freddy1314I don’t think kraken should because it’s tied to world events
no way, that is my reddit post, nice to see it on video!!
I wrote this in season 8, in season 9 they change the spawn to this:
"Emergent Megalodon encounters can now occur in a wider variety of locations across the seas, including those previously restricted due to the distance between islands."
I didn't test the method after season 9 because I was having megalodons spawns preatty frequently since this update (but now is kinda fuck up again haha).
thanks for testing it and show us if is really working, I link your video to the post!!
We speculated back then, that the reason the Meg did not spawn sometimes is the position. We had the same Idea as you, sailing to U1, as to not attract attention, but up there the spawn rate got fuzzy. When we first did the TT 5 times, we sailed to Galeons Grave every time and got a 100% spawn rate. U1 might be to high up for a good spawn rate. But that's just a guess we had.
This whole method lets you kill 2 birds with one stone by hunting for ancient skeletons due to shores of gold having more space for them to spawn
and get the gold curse if you haven’t already gotten the commedations
@@mr_wafflepants too bad gold curse needs all commendations done from EVERY tall tale in the game :(
@@vampire1256 yeah...
The Servers queue a random event every 30mins, entering the map would start that random event, so you just have to wait 30mins for each one but honestly the shrouded Ghost has a spawn rate of like 0.3 as it's 1 in 100 Megs and there are 3 events eg Kraken, Skelly or Meg, so it would take you weeks of doing that method.
The beauty of chance is that your presumption of 1 in 100 megs is only on average if you encounter a meg infinite times. This means you may play once and get the shrouded or you may have encountered 700 megs and never seen a shrouded. 🤷🏽
They do periodically release stats on Shrouded Ghost kills. Approx 0,2% of all killed megalodon are Shrouded Ghosts.
Now: These are only kills; not spawns. How many of the megs you spawn do you kill? Likely less than 10%, maybe less than 5%, even. And I'd also assume that almost all SGs that spawn are killed, which further inflates the 0,2% kill rate. Out of these assumption, I'd say it's reasonable to say that the spawn rate could be around 1/10,000 megs, possibly 1/20,000.
So, it's pure luck. There is no sense in trying to farm it whatsoever, as waiting an hour or half an hour, or whatever the event timer is, would mean that it'd take years to get a SG spawn.
I had a shrouded ghost in a random encounter. He attacked my boat and disappeared. I have no words for how angry i am

I think this works where ever to be honest, I've stayed at islands for a few hours fishing, and when leaving the island into open waters I would get like 2-3 enocunters, Kraken->Meg->Skelly ship. It was rough when I wasn't warmed up on cannons.

I swear megs used to spawn more often which was fun cause they’re easy loot weather your a solo or got crew mates
Man if this had worked, this would have gone down in history as the “shrouded ghost video” the same as what Erin sterling did with the “blunder bomb video”
oh, I'm not done with this yet ;)
this is exactly how I started after doing a few shores of gold runs and realising there was a meg every time we left, started looking into it, found same reddit post sailed in from bottom, went around the island and exited at U 1, I eventually gave up on that idea and found the map of meg encounter spots and we went spiralling in open waters for 2 hours, we still didn't find a single meg in the end though xD
I love the Ship name The "Going Merrick" W Reference.
I love hunting megs reminds me of the whale hunting missions from Black Flag.
SoT has what i call an "encounter timer" the longer you go without an emergent event the higher the chance to encounter one. I use it sometimes to trigger a skelly ship by sailing very slow from an island i was at for a while. As soon as you hear the music you go back to the island and the skelly ship can't get out of the water and you can fish battlegills
And sadly they implemented this timer to pvp as well. So if you avoid other ships in a far off part of the map they are like ok no other players have been near this guy for like 3 hours lets merge him to a new server. Cant ruin the PvP for the sake of some PvEr avoiding the rest of the world! Kinda lame. I miss the old trick of only merging when you anchor. Dont anchor and you never merge and eventually you would end up alone on a dying server no other players in sight.
The encounter timer isnt shared between megs and skeleton ships however since you can get both at once. If you camp at a ship wreck long enough you can get the battle music as well but the ship wont spawn till you leave because it needs clearance from the shipwreck safe zone (note the water near wrecks is always calm like an island) So you can fish up wreckers while waiting for battle music for battle gills. also barrels reset every 30 minutes (from server creation) so you can search the shipwreck every 30 minutes for more fish too. Its silly the way they did barrels. Its not On the half hour its literally 30 mins from server start. So if server started at 1:25 then spawns would be on the 25 and 55 of every hour.
That's absolutely fucking cap.
@@magus104 I had no idea the barrels on shipwrecks reset. You just changed the fishing game for me. Gonna go camp some ship wreck with a box of worms thank you o7
1. Emergent encounters chance increase the longer you've been at sea without anything "happening".
2. You need to be on deep open sea to spawn encounters.
Points 1 and 2 is why you see so many Megs after Shores of Gold.
3. Emergent encounters are somewhat limited on a server, if other ships are fighting some, your chance is lowered.
4. if the other ships on the server are mostly at islands and you're not, you are likelier to get the spawns.
5. The exception to point 3 is when the server detects "PvP" on the server, aka non-alliance ships sailing close to each other. The chance for both ships to spawn encounters is massively increased if they're on open sea. Alliance servers are abusing this by sailing in clusters to farm megs for commendations.
6. Server has some limitations in place to not spawn too many encounters, sometimes it's just on cooldown.
Well done on partnership 🎉 I think the merchant quest to track down lost shipment has a 1 in 3 chance to spawn a Meg as it can contain the key to the captain's cabin.
I have never had a Meg be part of those voyages and I've done like 50 of them
No way because making the captains key only obtainable via a meg would be stupid as its RNG based, and if the voyage forced a meg spawn it could be exploitable. If it did happen to you then I think chances are you happened to get a meg near some flotsam since the key on those voyages can be floating in debris sometimes from the special voyage flotsam spawns

@magus104 nah cus they had another new skull everytime? Like 3 at one point
getting those commendations for myself look’s tough
Finally, a secondary reason behind getting the gold curse.
i recently was on the gold curse grind, i noticed a lot of meg and skelly spawn omw to tribute peak, and leaving directly south of tribute peak. i feel like it has something do with the tall tale active/completed. but who truly knows
every time ive left gold shores theres been a meg i thought it was common
The shores of gold method is a well known method among hunters call. It was almost worthless though considering the time. Unless you are farming treacherous plunder.
In one session me and my friend killed 11 megs, in our next we killed none
I don’t need a farm every time I sail it comes or I get krakend
yo!
i love your vids!
Thank you!
Getting the gold curse, I think as long as you are leaving the area non specific you get megs, I just go direct to the outpost
I've killed it twice after the tale tale, but each time, we were near galleons grave. We'd also killed another megaladon or ship prior to starting the tale.
Ok, with the addition of safer seas, something needs to be tested. Watching the video I had a feeling there was a reason behind why it sometimes didn't work, and as I think many have guessed is that someone else already had an active meg. So, in theory if you go into safer seas, go to the shores of gold, and then leave, it should have a 100% spawnrate
So THATS where all the mega came from in season 9
My theory is more mundane. Encounters can not spawn in specific locations, close to islands, red sea, etc. But they do que up, which explains why you get attacked instantly after you leave the fort, sometimes. And after spending an hour in a location that can not spawn anything on you, the probability of an encounter is increased.
Yo if you do a fotd and seil to k13 on your way to reapers there's a 90% chance you will get a meg
"I found a way"
By noticing that a meg spawns when I leave the shores, so I used my head and saw it happen each time.
(You don't need the shanty)
many SKY OF ARCADIA music , really good game , remenber my old dreamcast.
i kept doing the sea fort near galleons ,sailing to the red sea 2 squares from the fort for it to reactivate and started getting skellies and megs at the same time pop on me after the 3rd fort every time it was crazy XD
I think it works like the game wants to spawn it but its not possible in shroud so it spawns it when u leave
my friend got it 800 hours in , the figurehead and trinket are amazing!
I've had a meg spawn more than chance seemingly when I've played that shanty.
I saw this happen to me once. While farming for the gold curse ever time i left i got attack by a meg
I know I am late but do you have to wait a real hour at the shores of gold or an ingame hour?
I just cant get myself to do the tall tales.
...sounds like what is happening is that the game picks you for an encounter, but can not activate it due to you being in the shroud. So this event sits on hold until you leave.
So it's not that you are creating the encounter, but you are simply STORING any encounter you would get until you leave the shroud.
Dawg I didn't knew the shrouded was that rare, I got it a week ago, ofc I know it's rare, but not that much
wow you're lucky!
Love the new pfp
I used to play console edition and for me megaladon spawns were insane every time i played i ran into 2 or more.
Yay john
we love Bardcore
They should add the flares from the shadow deep as something you can buy to summon a random Meg so farming megloadons won’t take an hour for one
i agree, even if they were to make them slighty expensive we'd at least have a decent meg farm
While fishing for junk at the shores, I often got a meg
This method is long known. Just stay at an area where no meg can spawn, wait 1h to 1,5h, sail into an area where it can spawn, and bam. Meg. SoG works at best for it. The only problem is that other ships on the server can cut into it, messing up the timer for it.
Nooo Its public knowledge now. I hope they are not gonna patch it out. We noticed this when Shores of Gold was released and we grinded for the Gold Curse. 4+years and noone made a video till now.
When they added the checkpoint system, this became OP. You just need a friend who quits at the right moment to cheese the last checkpoint.
Synn did, he's an Australian SOT content creator. It was published July 14th, 2020. He's the reason I have over 800+ meg kills, I've done the shores of gold tt so many times I've lost count. Ran through it yesterday as a matter of fact, lol.
This works with Dark Brethren too!
So, I found a completely solid black/dark grey meg yesterday, but had to flee due to other players before I could kill it... Is this a new shark, or maybe a glitched shadowmaw?
This still makes it 0,20 change for spawning shrouded ghost
Wait your almost at 20k subs😳
Glad I've seen it have a special figure head for killing it too
When I finished playing the Shores of Gold Tall Tales and leaving the shroud, I keep getting megalodons each time I play the Shores of Gold Tall Tales, and I wasn’t sailing on U1.
the new pfp is cool!
So thats why I always got a meg
I got one on accident and found another one last week, but it eluded me, I think it’s just random.
Just killed one yesterday! FINALLY!
On my first day of SOT I did a gold vault at krakens fall after we finished not even 15 seconds from leaving krakens fall shrouded ghost spawned on me
Nice new profile picture :D
My first time I was leaving Shores of Gold with my crew, we met shrouded ghost :D We were going south to Morrows peak outpost. But weirdly for us it spawned in red water. All of us got commendations for that :D
the megladons are glitched right now the spawn rate after killing 1 megladon is bugged and you are very unlikely to get another
but this means u can still do this method but u must leave server
i just found this out when i yesterday got my goldcurse and stacked 10 goldhoarder skulls
Being a Year 1 player. I have came across it once. I even dropped ankor rite when I noticed and bam, glitches into a different Frickin' Meg. But the majority of times I've seen it spawn throughout livestreams, videos, & so on was when there are at least two ships duking it out. Typically, galleons.
I love that I have met n killed the Shrouded Ghost. I love the amount of pain I hear every time I join a game n they dont think I could have possibly encountered it.
this works with any instance when exiting.
Unrelated but I had a question from one of the shorts you posted a few days ago. On private servers are you able to control wind direction at all? I imagine not I'm just curious.
No controls on private server except who is allowed to join everything else is same as live server. That and the zero progression thing.
nope, no options to change world events or weather. just a regular server with no way of making gold
you could try out testing fof spawns i had 4 back to back and have the sails now, but what i did was cleared fof sold loot left servber then left gam,e to windows waited a couple of minutes while i made a coffee came back and joined another open crew brig and another fof was there. may just have been incredibly lucky but it was wierd that i did it 4 times.
The method is know since the anniversary update. right after it dropped people started hunting via this method for commendations nothing new
and yet there wasn't a video on yt about it :)
i play sea of thieves now 1400 hours and i take never a shrouded ghost but i hope the method is funktion for me when i try this
i like the video i would see more from this 👍
Personally I'd rather spend an hour Sailing around getting commendations and getting a random meg than sitting on shores of gold for an hour. also U1 has nothing to do with this strat. Can recall getting a meg or skelly ship everytime I've finished and left shores of gold in the past.
Is it necessary to kill the boss always or simply by entering and leaving the island is the Meg generated?
i always noticed a meg spawning every time i finish the shores of gold, i just though i was lucky
All you need to do is sit on an island for an hour and go into open waters where one can spawn and youll 100% get either a megalodon or ship. Any island anywhere just 1 hour
I killed the shrouded ghost
This is cool and all but I feel like with the wait time it might just be more efficient to just sail around doing normal stuff and waiting for one to spawn.
when I made thos video, meg spawns were so weird. I had done multiple test streams sailing around back and fourth for hours and not get a single one.
I think meg spawns have been tuned since but idk.. This was still fun to prove it works lmao
Rarest thing? What about the Box of Wondrous Secrets? Wonder which is more rare.
hmmmmm could this video be a week late? XD haha I feel like this was announced on a stream a while ago! :P thx tho, cant wait to find out the trick ^^
look, alright, listen now *starts sweating profusely*
What sails are you using?
The method doesn't work, me and my friend tried 3 times, everything exactly as described, we sail to U1 and nothing
THREE times nothing
and then we (sloop) got sunk by a galeon of athena sweats lol, we just had the GH skull
Havent watched vid yet but I guess it will have something with completwing shores of gold tall tale ( final one ) when you get out of shroud a meg spawns as it happened to me
Nearly every time i play solo and get to emissary 5, i get megged on the way to sell my loot. If its not a meg its a skelly sloop. No joke 90% of the time easily. Doesnt matter what outpost.
This happens to me all the time except it's always a Skelly Ship and hardly ever a Meg 😔
