At the Cabin Baking Bread & Making Soup

- Today was our coldest day so far this fall -10C this morning so I decided it would be a good day to have a fire in the cabin and enjoy the day out there. I made a loaf of bread and baked it in the Coleman over and made a soup for lunch , I thought you might like to come along for a visit. I also show the GoPro set-up that I used to make the various clips.
Although the video is 5 yrs old, homemade bread and soup is timeless. Thanks for sharing Dale. Blessings

Baking, first thing in the morning is one of those things that restores your faith in the world, I find. Something about it adds order to the world around you and reassures you that everything will be fine. Great video Dale, I loved it.

Thank you . I don't like our cold winters but I know I wouldn't survive the heat in Bahrain although I assume it is a dry heat. Here when it gets hot it is the humidity that makes it so bad.

Nice video Dale. We have a lovely home with all mod cons and wood burners, yet there's something enjoyable about spending the afternoon in our cabin with the pot belly fired up. If you run out of fire-lighters try what we use: a couple of sheets of kitchen roll dipped in old cooking oil. Place on a bit of cardboard to stop it dripping into the ash pan.
Oh how I love soup and homemade bread when it's cold. The moment I heard that slight crunch of the bread, and saw that soup, I was ready to head to your house. MMMM I bet it was fantastic, and I so love visiting you in your cabin, it's actually feels comfortable watching you, and it's like I'm right there with you. Thank you for sharing with us, I enjoy it so much.

I've made bread all my life, and there's nothing like that made inside of a wood-burning stove.
I found that if I perch just the right size of grate on two fire-bricks, and allow the fire to go into a bed of coals, that grate is perfect for baking all kinds of bread...especially southern biscuits or English Muffins in an iron skillet.

My house is just a tad larger than your cabin and I just got an actual stove this fall. So I’ve been spending a fair amount of time baking and cooking. I used a small toaster oven and something similar to a single burner for over 4 years. So, I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be trying more of your recipes. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Interesting a,part looking alike and have siimilar age and interests I am still watching your bread and soup film and was suprised when you mentioned Hay on Wye ,Wales, my father was born there and I spent alot of time there. Booth came along in 70's bought Hay Castle and kicked off the book deal. Bay of Fundy, am I right in think Neil Young, Jonie etc hale from your area?

How cozy and fun. I used to make sourdough bread from my own starter and I was so good and maintaining the starter by feeding it for months and then I just let it go sadly. You have inspired me to start again!

I could hear you bite the bread. It looked just fine to me. I baked my own bread many years ago in my 20s. I made bread, kaiser rolls, bow shaped rolls. The flavor was amazing! I was going to make crackers but I couldn't find the rolling pin. Your voice is very soothing. I have to watch more of your videos.

That was a most enjoyable video Dale . The GoPro does marvelious wide angle clips and really showed how nice your cabin is. The Bread and Soup was just what you needed. It looked so tasty. Surprised you didn't add your herbs. I just put a gas stove in the glass house. Thats for the Gluhwein (mulled wine) for my neighbours on one of the nights soon. Cheers

Thank you i enjoyed this. I was pleased to see someones idea of stew ( soups ) is the same as my liking. I,ve found most stews are meat potatoe onions. I need turnips rutabagas and parsnips in addition to those three items. I also enjoy good mushrooms when i have them. I dont see much of that in others soups. I found this video quiet peaceful and relaxing , Well done.

I remember when I was a child lots of people here still did all of their cooking and baking in wood stoves.
If i had my way of cooking it be on a wood stove my mother cooked on a wood stove but then the township came in she couldn't cook on a wood stove because of Pollution of smoke but the fire Marshall Inspected it and said it was alright.
Looked like a tasty lunch and a nice place to hang out.

Now I feel warmer and well fed, the soup and bread looked very tasty. We had a visit from a Cooper's Hawk at the feeders the other day but he went away hungry I think he missed his target. He stayed sitting on my deck rail for a good two or three minutes but of course my camera was not handy. Thanks Dale.
