I come back to these every now and then. I love them - they are serence, beautiful, and a joy to watch! I just adore you and Angel, and all that beautiful winter scenery. Not to mention the delicious things you always bake or cook. Thank you for these gifts!
Dale, 10 years later and im still watching you. Your videos are so comforting! May God bless you and your family with many more years to post such comforting videos!
Oh my! Watching this was like getting a warm hug! Charming, comforting, and unique. Nothing as wonderful as enjoying your own company! My family is from England, was raised on a cuppa tea, Good books, and quietude.
I am a senior citizen , I live high in the mountains on the canadian border in eastern washington , my cabin is 24x36. I live alone , every winter I am snowed in for 3 and 1/2 months. I can't get out. I am snow bound . I get 6 to 8 feet of snow over the course of winter. I have to stock up on supplies all summer and fall to last thru the winter while I am snowbound. Let me tell you what , you sure as hell don't want to get sick or injured , you could die. I get blizzards that last for days. There's no getting out of up here. Living in a cabin in the mountains is not for the faint of heart. You have to be tough as hell.
》Hi Dale , once snow season begins up here , there is NO More Rain , its all snow. It's always a white christmas. Temps go minus -25 f. Below zero. Make sure you have 6 to 8 cords of firewood. I do have power up here , I brought that in myself , but heavy snow on the tree branches cause them to break and hit the power lines , and out goes the lights. People think living in the mountains is fun and provides such a quaint atmosphere to be in. If they spent 1 month in the winter with me , they would want to move to Hawaii. They'd never be back. Theres Bears up here , Grizzlies , and Blacks , thankfully they go into hibernation when the snow gets deep. But you have Cougars and Canadian linx , Moose ,Wolves , Coyotes , and other assorted animals. I can't go outside unless I am heavily armed 12 months out of the year. People have No idea what it's like in the mountains. No neighbors for afew miles. Stay healthy , or you could die.
No Cougars or Bears here but we do have Lynx, Bobcats, Coyotes and Moose. None of which have ever harmed anyone in this area . There have been incidents with Coyotes in a neighbouring province and of course cars hitting moose on the highway.
Dale Calder 》 I had a moose charge me , and I had to drop and roll under my truck parked next to my cabin. That was in 3 feet of snow. I had to put Bars on my 5 windows to keep the bears out. They stand up and look in my windows. Mountain life is for people that can live like the old mountain men did in the 1800's. And not be afraid of the harsh elements. But , I love it up here.
I absolutely love these "winter cabin" videos. I watch them over and over. They are beautiful and calming:) Watching this one in hot temps of Aug 2020:) Thanks, Dale, for these beautiful winter cabin videos.
OneYardRevolution Thank you. I could use a thaw about now we are in for another major storm tonight and tomorrow and the weather office calls this one a weather bomb.
Oh Wow, a Man after my own heart! I lived on a 15 acre piece in lower northern Michigan until just about a year ago (lived there 26+ yrs) and converted what started out to be a deer hunting "shack", that sat just about in the middle of the wooded property, into a little camping cabin for my youngest Son and I about 9 or 10 yrs ago when he was about 8 yrs old. We had so much fun in that little cabin! There's nothing like being out in the woods during a winter storm! I just found your channel and don't know which of the video's to watch next as you seem to have all of the same interests as I do.....guess I need to just start at the beginning and go through them one by one! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
You are soo fortunate. I am surrounded by extroverts. Constantly yapping and texting on their cell phones. It is virtually impossible to have any peace and quiet. Even when they have no one to converse with they need to fill that void with loud music or TV. I have forgotten what silence is like.
dinnerandashow you should move to where you can get some silence we all need it I live in the highlands in Scotland with nothing much around us except for sheep and deers the winters are quite challenging as the winds can reach over a hundred miles per hour
Since it's hot as blazes down here in South Central Texas, I really enjoy watching your winter videos; especially the snow storms in the cabin. Thank you!
I stumbled across your channel today and I'm so glad I did. This was the most enjoyable and relaxing video I've ever seen. I plan to binge-watch all your videos. I live in Texas and we're suffering 100 degrees for the past 2 weeks and getting lost in your winter videos makes me feel much cooler. Thanks so much for sharing your cozy cabin with all of us.
One of the many things that I like about your videos is that you do not use "ahhh" in speaking. Clearly you are someone confident and comfortable with speaking. Most people are not. Well done!!
Love love this video. So cozy, homey and peaceful. Copied biscuit recipe. Also loved watching the meals you put together and the candlelight. SOOO comforting!!!!!
Good Old Day's I feel the same. Oh how I would love to be there sharing all that fun. God Bless. You make wonderfully interesting videos. And yes, your voice is a soothing, nice one 😃
Thankful you haven’t taken this (and other storm vids) down. Still enjoy revisiting them occasionally. You were a major inspiration to me to acquire my own cabin at my senior age which I enjoy immensely. Hope you and Angel are in good health and continue to enjoy life and each other. 🙏🐾
Patricia Sue Perkins Dudzik, The men who lived in the covered wagons on the cattle drives would make biscuits in a pot an bake them covered over an open fire!
When I was too young to work in the fields, my grandma watched me. When she made breakfast, lunch and supper, I helped her. I can make biscuits and cornbread. I can cut a fryer and make several types of gravy. My cornbread dressing is awesome. I always get requests for fried side pies. As I got older, I continued to help her because her eyesight was bad from diabetes and cataracts. That experience got me my first job at a bakery at age 14. I would work from 3am to 6am then go to school. I can do all sorts of bread, pastries, cakes and lunchroom yeast rolls. Thanks Grandma. 🙂
Isn't it amazing how food and shelter can be so absorbing. It clearly appeals to our inner instincts... one of your viewers comments on your voice. It is so mellow and contributes greatly to the ambience of your videos. Keep up your work, we so enjoy it..
I just found your channel Mr. Calder, and I must say I sincerely enjoyed watching "Winter Storm at the Cabin". I loved watching you make your square biscuits and oatmeal so much that I think I will make some homemade biscuits in the morning for my breakfast. Biscuits with plenty of melted butter and hot black coffee. Delish.. Very comfy in your little cabin.
I decided to spend another stormy night in the cabin. It certainly was a wild and stormy night but we didn't get as much snow as was forecast. I baked some buttermilk biscuits and had my dinner and breakfast in the cabin. Link to my blog: dalecaldersblog.blogspot.com The recipe for the biscuits: SACO Buttermilk Biscuits 4 Tbsp Buttermilk Powder 2 Cups all purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tsp sugar 1/3 cup shortening 2/3 cups of water Preheat oven to 450°F. Sift flour, Saco Cultured Buttermilk Blend, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture is the texture of coarse meal. Make a well in center of flour mixture and pour in water; mix lightly with a fork, just until dry ingredients are moistened and dough holds together. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly two or three times, then roll out with a floured rolling pin to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut in rounds with a floured biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes or until biscuits are puffed and golden brown. Remove from oven and brush tops of biscuits with melted butter.
Your video reminds me of my grandparents place in Soo MI. Grandpa had the same breakfast as you did almost every morning. They have since passed on. Thank you for bringing back some good memories! God Bless :-)
Looks like a lot of fun just to get away from it all for awhile. Those biscuits looked great. I really enjoy your videos Dale thank you very much. You take care.
I looooved this video. I know it was uploaded awhile back but we are at 100 and something today in Texas and I was just thinking how much I would love to be in your cabin right now.....HA!! HA!! It's soooo hot here!! Those biscuits look amazing and the coffee delish. Thanks so much for sharing your sweet cabin peace with us.........beautiful.....
l am Jasons mother, Kathleen l enjoy your shows and the biscuits look very nice. we watch all of your videos every day. thankyou for sharing your life with us. bring lots more. many thanks to you.
Thank you for sharing this video. I had country house one time and we always looked forward to a good storm, in fact our neighbors would all get together in one house if the storm was going to be real bad. Thanks for the memories. Tony
What a fun night, like camping close to home. Actually better then camping the way you have everything set up. Ready for spring here, having some flooding in the area.
Lois Laney Thanks Lois. Other people drive for hours to get to there cabin I just walk out to the back garden LOL. Flooding is about the only thing we don't get the Bay of Fundy doesn't flood. Big snowstorm again tonight and tomorrow the weather office is calling it a Weather Bomb.
Hi Dale, Just viewed this video of yours. All the snow reminded me of home! Originally from north Scotland, I miss all the snow! Somehow it has this "new smell" on the earth, makes all our allotments in England look all the same( even when they are not tidy) and to some extent protects the plants under the snow. There is just something about it, looks "magical" at times! However, it has it's downside also. Having finished my work for the evening, I travelled by my car home about 13 miles out into the countryside. (as I worked in the city) Didn't get but a couple of miles, but the snow came down relentlessly! I was stuck miles from nowhere, actually it was a minor road in the countryside .Thought I'd have to stay all night, when in the distance I saw lights coming toward me! It was a local farmer who had seen my lights and came to the rescue! His Snow Plough cleared a way all 11 miles! That experience never put me off, I still love the snow! Best Wishes.
Mr. Dale I just came across your videos and I can’t stop watching them. Thank you for sharing your love for cooking with the rest of us, your cabin, your space, your time. I've seen many many videos on small spaces little homes, but you take the Grand Prize, I had never seen a person in a little cabin baking AND enjoying life full of serenity and a passion for baking... Your videos transmit that....What beautiful moments your leaving behind for your family and generations to see. May God give you lots of good health and joy through the year so that you continue to enjoy what you do and we enjoy seeing them. Many blessing to you...Happy New Year 2015 and keep those videos coming....
Been watching your videos and adore your cabin. We all need a shot of the simple lifestyle. When you mentioned New Brunswick, I remember visiting there in 2001 and visiting the City Market.
68BarbP Thank you very much. The City Market in Saint John has been around a very long time. If you are ever back this way you should visit the Farmers Market in Fredericton on a Saturday morning. It is amazing everyone in Fredericton goes to the market and it is huge.
I have no idea how I ended up here. 🤔 I was watching videos on servicing my landscaping equipment and before I knew it, I'm watching someone camp on a stormy night in their cabin, make biscuits and oatmeal and coffee for breakfast. Man that's confusing! Not quite my speed, but nevertheless a cool little video. Might just check out another. 😉
Albert Ledesma just be careful, stay away from the "chick flicks" ..... "It's a trap!!" As they say :) My hubby and I have been planning and prepping for a few Guinea fowl this year to help with our wood tick problem. However, I stumbled on this channel the other day, and have been binge watching it ever since. Now suddenly we are getting a few Guinea Fowl and 6 chickens lol. So if you don't want to completely fall in love with the idea of chickens, stick with the cabins vids lol!!
This vlog showed up in my suggested videos tonight, so I watched it again! I really did enjoy the cooking and the ambience of the cabin! Just think, we are half way through the year and before you know it, it will be time to spend an evening in the cabin listening to the wind and watching those giant flakes fall! ❤️❤️❤️
That is so wonderful! I have wanted a cabin all my life. I bought 1 acre of land 40 minutes from Deer Valley, Utah 25 years ago, but it is not remote anymore. Most of the people are building log homes to life there full time. Also, I'm so tired of paying HOA fees and water fees every month. I don't even have a cabin on my lot and till have to pay. I want more remote than that! I want to get rid of it
+Dale Calder I love these videos. I came across your channel in January, and since then, I watch this channel at least trice a week. I added you as recommended channel on my own :)

Dale Calder Thanks for sharing wonderful cabin time. If you like you can mash up alittle garlic & make garlic butter. Helps you to not get colds..& has other healing propertys.
Thanks for sharing these with us! I watched this back a couple years, and am now spending my Christmas evening (I'm from the US) with your lovely voice, and sharp intellect (your voice is like Otis Jiry's)! This has always reminded me of my Grandfather, as he was born in 1903 (-1998). So many of these things remind me of how he lived, of books I've read, and of things I'd love to do myself. Those chickens are adorable, I have many cats, dogs, and a cockatiel. I live in a rural town in Missouri, we used to get each season to its fullest (snow in winter several times), but now we barely get it....nothing to mention in a couple years. This helps me remember the white Christmas time my youth, with fondness (I'm 35, and the weather is so different now)... Sorry for droning on, I hope your family, pets, and you all have a blessed Christmas!! Amanda Heath
Thank you Amanda. We had a white Christmas today. It snowed all day 10 to 12 inches or so. Has stopped now and the moon is out but it is getting a lot colder.
Dale Calder You're welcome, we just missed having one, it's snowing a couple hours north of us. I miss getting that much snow, well watching it on UA-cam is the next best thing! We've finally gotten cold weather here, especially today. Stay warm, -Amanda Heath
Just discovered you and your channel Dale and just subscribed. I really enjoy your videos. I am in Edmonton Alberta and my wife and I will soon be looking to buy a small piece of land to build a small (maybe 800 sq ft) cabin or cottage to retire to. I am getting so many great ideas from your videos and others like it. Cheers Sir :)
Martin Blair Thank you very much Martin. That will be a palace next to mine which is only 108 sqft. Glad you are enjoying the videos. Actually I spent the night out in the cabin last night in a bit of a winter storm and made a video that will be out in a week or so.
Just a year back I started liking tiny houses. I watch them a lot and they look soo cute and cozy. I've never seen snow my entire life so I don't know the experience there . It must be a very hard time in winters . You have a very calm voice I like that.... May God keep you strong and healthy always..
Spending time with you in the cabin makes me miss snuggling. I have a cabin in Minocqua and before my husband left me we used to sit and snuggle and watch the snow come down!I miss him and the snuggling buy so enjoy the quiet of the beautiful falling snow! Merry Christmas Dale.
I'd just like to thank you. A few years ago I used to have some real anxiety when trying to sleep, I've probably watched this video a few hundred times and it always helped me be able to fall asleep it's a very restive pace. Just wanted to thank you for it.
@@DaleCalderCampobello If you have the chance this winter I'd love another one :D - Also those issues are gone now, still thanks again keep making videos.
I really enjoyed you sharing your time in the cabin in the snowstorm. It was so nice. Almost like being there, so much that you could imagine the chill, haha. Please do this again when you get the next big snow fall. What a relaxing time. The log book is such a great idea.
it appears from videos like this that living in the woods is all about making food preparing food catching food eating food thinking about food organising food cooking food conserving food planning food killing food . it appears to be mainly about food lol :)
Thank You Dale. Your videos are very comforting. When I have a break from all my work over Thanksgiving I will try your biscuits. :) Love to see every day living like I was a kid. Never thought I would say that! Somehow it is comforting to remember how to do things without having an electrical gadget. The art of harvesting and cooking and preserving etc is lost for those of us that are still in the rat race of working outside the home. I am learning from your videos. I want to remember so I can get back to simpler ways.
Hi Dale...u know your South African stuff...:)....I live in Canada now for 18 years but was born in SA. Yes, potjie kos, is Afrikaans, and stews r 1 of the meals its used for, but u r very good with cooking cereal in it, I have never even thought of that...:)...I have always wanted to have a log cabin in northern Canada, well maybe one day....still a spring chicken at 55....:)....I lived on Cape Breton Island until 2 years ago and came to Ontario to be nearer my grandkids....but miss the ocean sooooo much...:)....awesome videas...:)
Thank you. I've done baked beans it it too and that was very good. Today was my first day of the season in the cabin I love it out there when it is cold enough to enjoy the wood stove. Glad you like the videos.
We have no snow yet, but I love the cold anyway...spent the day raking leaves and cleaning out all the beds, perfect weather for a day gardening...very interested in your apple tree....so it never gets new apples?
The late great author, naturalist and Transcendental writer/thinker Henry THOREAU who lived in his cabin on Walden Pond here in eastern Massachusetts! Also knew a thing or two about nature and living simply and alone! "Tis the gift to be simple, t'is the gift to be free"...old Shaker hymn from the 1800s, very true!
Well Dale after watching this video which I just stumbled upon for the first time I can see why you have 15K plus subscribers!!!! Your voice as many have mentioned below might just be the most soothing and relaxing sound I have ever heard. Being in the cabin with you makes one feel so cozy , comfortable, and relaxed. And to top it all off homemade biscuits !! In this insane and crazy busy world we live in your videos a most welcome respite from all the insanity. As a doctor I would write a prescription to any of my patients who are stressed out to view this video. The bush reminds me a bit of here in southern Ontario...Cheers!!!
I come back to these every now and then. I love them - they are serence, beautiful, and a joy to watch! I just adore you and Angel, and all that beautiful winter scenery. Not to mention the delicious things you always bake or cook. Thank you for these gifts!

Definately!!
I'm in my mid-50s and your life is exactly what I envisioned my life to be when I hit 60. So lovely...Thank you

ThatGearHead I agree he has a lovely Soothing voice. I love his voice!
Where are you?
I love this video. There is something so comforting about the peace and security of a night in a cabin, while a snow storm rages.

As much as I'm sick of this Winter, I always enjoy watching these "snowed in" videos of yours. Love that cabin, Dale!!
Thanks Patrick these always seem to be popular videos.

Thank you it is a great fresh buttermilk substitute.
I decided to spend another stormy night in the cabin. It certainly was a wild and stormy night but we didn't get as much snow as was forecast. I baked some buttermilk biscuits and had my dinner and breakfast in the cabin.

The recipe for the biscuits:
SACO Buttermilk Biscuits
4 Tbsp Buttermilk Powder
2 Cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp sugar
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cups of water
Preheat oven to 450°F. Sift flour, Saco Cultured Buttermilk Blend, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture is the texture of coarse meal. Thank you very much Debbie I don't think I would survive the Texas Heat.
My wife and I were living in Dallas in the summer when I came across this the first time😊
80 degrees f today and going into the 60s tonight in Vermont. Needed a cool time video to go to bed by. Thanks

Thank you for sharing this video. I had country house one time and we always looked forward to a good storm, in fact our neighbors would all get together in one house if the storm was going to be real bad. Thanks for the memories. Tony
ToniMattTony Thank you Tony that sounds like great memories to have.
Just found this and just his comforting voice tells me I'm gonna be watching more. Thankyou ❤️
Thank you
Very nice video and cabin very relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing.
+Jerry G. Thank you Jerry.
Nora Hepburn That's a wonderful story Nora he was a very special person.
What a good and kind man!!!!
Just found your videos and they are so amazing! I love hearing you talk & tell your stories. So peaceful
Thank you Kim.
What a soothing, calming voice you have, sir!
Thank you Kami.
THANK YOU FOR LETTING US SHARE A GOOD SNOW STORM. ALWAYS ENJOY IT. BEEN MISSING THIS FOE SOME TIME.
Thank you Doreen
First video of yours I've ever seen. Won't be the last. New subscriber. Soothing voice. Good video. Love your cabin.
Thank you Tamara.
Snow storm?? how cozy. I bet you thoroughly enjoyed yourself - thanks for sharing Dale😊
Thank you .
Thank you Albert glad you enjoyed it.
So if you don't want to completely fall in love with the idea of chickens, stick with the cabins vids lol!!
isn't so funny how you find stuff like this ? i started by looking for flannel sheets ! lol.
Thomas Luczak lol.
Thomas Luczak LOL! You were meant to see this video:)
This vlog showed up in my suggested videos tonight, so I watched it again! I really did enjoy the cooking and the ambience of the cabin! Just think, we are half way through the year and before you know it, it will be time to spend an evening in the cabin listening to the wind and watching those giant flakes fall! ❤️❤️❤️
Time flies but lets not rush the snow storms Carol LOL
I am in New Zealand. Thank goodness for youtube.
Thank you Melody.
Dale their is nothing better than a good meal on a cold night !!!
Thank you Gary .
You have a very nice voice-i could watch all day😉. Very relaxing in this world of stress. Thank you Sir🌲🌹
Thank you Dian.
dian I do agree. This world is chaotic. This is so refreshing and peaceful. Thank u Dale. I am subbing today.
Soothing voice. Like your backyard cabin. It's fun to hunker down and to weather the weather.
Thank you Rosemarie.
Nice... I love your spirit and the cozy feeling you shared with us.
Thank you Francesca.
It is nice to know you stayed safe and warm! For me just watching is like a mini mental get away. Thanks so much for filming it!
Cheeky Saver Thank you glad you enjoyed the get away.
***** Thank you . I wanted a cabin for years so I finally broke down and built my own out back on my property.
I want to get rid of it
leslie taylor Thank you I've been told by a friend from Utah that water rights are a big issue in much of the state.

Helps you to not get colds..& has other healing propertys.
i really love yoiur cabin. So peaceful, small, far from anything.
thank You Dale, i should built a cabin too, to enjoy my life like You do here :)
andy tamba Thank you . I love my cabin and would recommend one to anyone a great place to relax.
Stay warm,
-Amanda Heath
Thanks for your reply. I am watching your videos again today :) Very inspirational.

Retire, take wife to woods, wolves get her, you are off to Vegas😂😂😂,
Just a year back I started liking tiny houses. I watch them a lot and they look soo cute and cozy. I've never seen snow my entire life so I don't know the experience there . It must be a very hard time in winters . You have a very calm voice I like that.... May God keep you strong and healthy always..
Thank you .
Slow T.V. Thanks Dale. Very relaxing.
LOL Thank you Jeff.
Thank you , sir. Very enjoyable spending some time with you in the cabin!
Thank you William.
love watching and listening to you keep it up
tony johnson Thank you .
Thank you Marcia Merry Christmas to you too.
Love your home away from home.
Lenny Brown Thank you .
I'd just like to thank you. A few years ago I used to have some real anxiety when trying to sleep, I've probably watched this video a few hundred times and it always helped me be able to fall asleep it's a very restive pace. Just wanted to thank you for it.
You are very welcome.
@@DaleCalderCampobello If you have the chance this winter I'd love another one :D - Also those issues are gone now, still thanks again keep making videos.
So glad you didn't lose power!
Catherine Dean Me too.

l enjoy watching you in the cabin. you are a nice man sir. please bring more shows.
Thank you there will be more cabin videos ads soon as the weather cools off a bit.
I really enjoyed you sharing your time in the cabin in the snowstorm. It was so nice. Almost like being there, so much that you could imagine the chill, haha. Please do this again when you get the next big snow fall. What a relaxing time. The log book is such a great idea.
Thank you it is a very popular video.
it appears from videos like this that living in the woods is all about making food preparing food catching food eating food thinking about food organising food cooking food conserving food planning food killing food . it appears to be mainly about food lol :)
+frustratednomad There's just something about cooking in the cabin.
Dale Calder , and that " something" is COMFORT! Ahhhh! ☺️
frustratednomad I like food lol 😂
food in survival in order to survive out there you have to be able to cook eat and stay warm
My goodness, your voice is so soothing. Your little cabin is lovely and you make great biscuits!
Thank you Rebecca
Wow thanks for sharing!!!!!
Thank you .
MsRegina333 Thank you I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.
Ron Grey By early spring all of the old rotten apples that have been on all winter have dropped and it blooms and starts all over again.
oh I see, I misunderstood...great food for the birds tho....:)
Good heavens they look yummie..your dinner looks great 👍
This is great
Thank you.
What is a nice cabin with Windows to look out and watch the weather. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Mary.
I'm sure this is was Thereaux meant when he said "live deliberately".
Thank you .
Thank you for sharing your life! I enjoy it very much, please keep posting!
Thank you .
sweet pleasant face and a voice to match !
Thank you .
wow, he's amazing at baking; he just knows completely what he's doing
Thank you.
Wish you were my neigbour l would always be around.
Thank you.
I think these video clips take us to a separate world that we all wish we could be part of. To escape the humdrum of every day life :)
Thank you Richard you might have something there these are always my most popular videos and lots of people are always asking for more.
Oh God... just drop me off ... I love the cold !!!!!!
Thank you very much Gord for the kind words.
Looks nice and cozy :-)
Deepeem Twentyeighteen Thank you .
