Roughly 350kms East of Perth and about the same north of Albany you'll find Wave Rock. In this episode we take the big detour out there to take a look and see for ourselves if we think it's worth the drive out.
We also take a look at everything else the Hyden area has to offer, including Lake Magic which unfortunately we didn't think was that magic...

My maternal grandad grew up just east of Hyden.
My father used to go shooting out that way and they often camped in the hippos yawn, best shelter in the area back then.
That would have been an incredible place to go shooting. I could only imagine what the area would have been like before it became such a tourist destination. It would be amazing to camp out in Hippo's Yawn for a night.
Another awesome episode🫶🏻 Stunning drone footage of wave rock and we loved the Hippo smiling Rock. Bloopers are soooo goood 😊
The Hippo is pretty cool haha. As or the bloopers....there is *_always_* plenty of them to share 😝
The salt pool was the same when we were there at the end of March. I believe the colour change was due to some heavy rain they'd had just before we got there. So yes, it was a little disappointing, but it wasn't too cold for a swim at that point and there were nowhere near as many flies! We enjoyed our stay but agree, a couple of nights is enough.
As bad as it sounds, at least we aren't the only ones that got it looking brown and uninviting. We didn't say it in the video (because we forgot) but as soon as we got back to camp we went straight into the shower haha.
I know what you mean, sometimes you feel a bit ripped off when things aren't like they looked on Insta!
Good old social media has a lot to answer for 😂

Yeah it was a shame, but it just means we’ll have to go back another time as hopefully it’s all finished and better 👌

When I take photos or video I put it up as filmed, I don't edit the photo or use filters just so that I don't mislead people. It was good to see your reality.
We figure it's best to keep it as honest as possible with that type of stuff. We don't want to mislead people into thinking things aren't the way the really are
There's some nice hand paintings in the cave.
I think from memory there was around 450 of them! Pretty impressive ;)

The flys were intense hahaha. We have a couple fly nets somewhere in the caravan...Now we just have to find them...🤪

Yeah agree with ya there. Wave rock is a pretty cool formation. Lake magic unfortunately was a little less magic then we had hoped.
@Explore_oz yeah I can see that haha. Dod they say if there was a time of year for Lake magic to be in peak?
Apparently if it rains it can turn the water this colour, but we have had people tell us since being there that it can be like that for no reason sometimes... so don't really know haha
