Can I just verify, as a guy with a Master's in Physics, the interpretation of being able to go into the future as described is correct. :) :) Travelling quickly will make the 'speed of time' increase for everyone else but you, so if you're moving fast enough for 1h, way more than 1h will have passed for everyone else, and so you are effectively stepping into the far future having spent very little time getting there yourself.
@@RikkiTikkiTavi290 You don't have to be going the speed of light to experience this phenomenon. For instance the people up in the ISS are effectively all a couple years younger than they would be if they had spent the time they did in the ISS on Earth, because they have been constantly accelerating due to the force of Earths gravity which they use to orbit the planet.
@@duffelbach9039 Think about a race track. On the curved part, runners on the inner lane will "go faster" and go past the runners on the outer lane. A similar thing (abstractly speaking) happens with time.

SHK Potter A legitimate tv show actually made an experiment confirming these things. They set up two different watches(atomic watches), one at the foot of a mountain, and one on top of the mountain. They waited a day or so, and checked the watches. And yes, they of course synchronized the watches beforehand, but after the experiment they were a tiny tiny bit out of sync. It has to do with the difference in gravitational pull close to the earth, and the weaker pull at the top of the mountain.

In theory, you can travel forward, but in the real world, you can't get to speed of light. In theory, wormholes are real (search for wormholes, they are cool) and so you could travel backwards in time. The problem is if they exist (since theories don't always say that something really exists) they are not stable enough. And what i mean by this is if they get matter or any kind of energy inside them they collapse. But, if wormholes exist and are stable enough, i think we have a problem (own reflection): Orbital mechanics.Since Earth is moving around the sun, and the sun is moving threw our galaxy, and our galaxy is moving threw the universe, if you go back in time, technically you go to a place where was, for example, 1500 but the earth is not there anymore. I mean, quantum mechanics could play a roll here and scramble this idea up, but i have not enough knowledge of it to say anything, and since we don't have a theory relating quantum mechanics and relativity, there is a uncertainty in this conclusion ( :) )
Jack, Bongehs science is pretty accurate, time dilation increases with the speed you travel, thus the closer to the speed of light you travel time changes less for you and more for folk back in earth. In order to go back in time, by the equation for time dilation its possible. In order for time dilation to be negative (going back in time) the vaule of (c-v) needs to be negative. (c = speed of light, v = speed at which you travel relative to whatever you measuring the time dilation). So if you could travel at a speed higher than speed of light, (v>c) then (c-v) would be negative and you can go back in time. But since nothing can exceed the speed of light (that's a whole different proof altogether) you cant go back in time.
The conversation in the first half of this reminded me a lot of The Ricky Gervais Show. Where Jack is Ricky, and Bongeh is the voice of reason, that is, Karl Pilkington. This should be a series in itself.

To answer your dream of time travel Jack, almost instant time travel is theoretically possible if you accelerate a wormhole to a relativistic speed, so that the entrance hole has a different time from the exit. Only theoretically tho...

For the use of instant Time Travel it would be the need of the use of wormholes or quantum entanglement which in quantum entanglement you can teleport instantly from two entangled points in time. This can be an instant time travel solution.
Time for the GPS satellites is running at a different rate then us. Without calculating for that, your GPS on your phone would have missed by several km.
yes, speed of light would make you go to the future in someway. there is also something about being in space too which i don't want to explain. but yes time travel is a thing, and we are also traveling forward in time now technically
I think it was time dialation that the closer you are to light speed the more time gets slower. This is I think in relation to special relativity where gravity comes in. People who experience less gravity will have time pass slower for them. If you watched Interstellar it is a great illustration of this.
2:20 You can make a wormhole at the present then go to the future and make a wormhole and then bridge them together. You are technically traveling back in time. When you go through the wormhole.
