  • Can the Fronius Transpocket 180 do pulsed stick you ask? Why yes yes it can. Does it require updates to use? That I do not have the answer to.

    I like it mainly for the pulse using aluminum rods fastest way to weld aluminum

      I haven't tried it on aluminum yet. I've been wanting too just haven't had time to mess with it yet.

      Any rods from amazon you would recommend for aluminium? also can you weld 1mm Aluminium?

  • @engjds
    @engjds 25 днів тому

    Biggest nightmare in welding for me is thin materials, keep chasing holes, hopefully when I get used to the pulse setting that won't happen.
    Question is, say you have 1mm material, using 1/16" rods, what current and pulse settings work best?
    I just got a transpocket 150A, impressed by the arc stability, very smooth even with 6011.

      not sure the last time I tried running 1/16" rods was when the Hobart stickmate was my only option as far as welding machines go. never got em to work correctly. Do you ever run MIG or self shield flux core? usually stuff that is as thing as that you will want to tig weld or sometimes mig weld it. you can run tig with any stick welder. if you get a torch similar to the heavy hitters tig rig with a manual air valve on the torch. or the fronius machines have their own torch that should work with any trans steel unit and some of the trans pocket units have the tig option. if you don't have the tig package already installed on your trans pocket you would have to run a scratch start set up. but put the machine in tig mode and it becomes lift arc. if you run a scratch start set up on a fronius with the tig package you either have to be smarter than me or run in stick mode because the tig mode is always waiting for you to press the button and make it hot.

      @@scrapmanindustries Knew you would help, thanks my friend. Yeah, I am pretty new to welding, but have tried out Mig and got decent results and also flux core, they seem easy after stick tbh, I asked because if I get this welding repair thing going, it would be nice to do everything on the transpocket with it being so portable.
      I have the argon waiting for Tig, but I have been holding off until I feel I have fully mastered stick and mig first, my TP unit does not have the tig package, but I do have it on my transteel 2200mv along with the Fronius torch-one I wish to keep at home.

      @@scrapmanindustries Slightly off subject, but I want a silent compressor too, something that can be used for plasma cutting or arc gouging and maybe odd air tool usage, but I am unsure how large a tank I will need (25L, 50L, 100L?) or the minimum CFM, what do you use mate?

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  25 днів тому

      @@engjds my compressor has made in into some of my earlier video back in the scrap metal processing days. I would not recommend that one for gouging. or even plasma really. mine is too small for gouging and just barely big enough to handle intermittent plasma. I made it work for gouging once on a small dozer repair that I did. I think I filmed that set up. I could only gouge for a few minutes then wait a really long time for the compressor to build up air. I don't care about mine, it already survived a car fire when I torched my 98 Tacoma. the compressor owes me nothing and the tank is actually so old it's about to need replaced anyway. You can get by with one of them 15hp wheel barrow compressors but most guys will run a big 30 gallon 25 hp or more compressor unless they have a screw type compressor either on the truck or in the welder. I think you need like 22cfh or so to gouge pretty much non-stop. my compressor has about 4cfh. when you start needing air in that volume it will not be silent. the quietest ones as far as I know are the screw type packs that run off your trucks hydraulics but they also cost an arm and a leg. for the shop most guys will get at least an 80 gallon compressor of some sorts and put it either outside or in its own room. I'm not at that level yet. Usually when I do have to carbon arc gouge there's usually a bigger compressor than mine sitting near by. I'll just hook up to that. I have no clue what size it is but we had two blow guns zip tied open for about a month and it wasn't that noticeable of a difference. that was at a factory though.

    How much extension cord can you run off of these? Ive heard up to 300ft?

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  Рік тому

      It depends what gauge you got and how much power your drawing honestly. You can run a cord from NYC to La if it’s heavy enough. But yeah for some reason fronius likes to push 300 ft on their marketing team. Not sure how heavy you need it to be though. A 16 gauge cord ain’t gonna work for 300’ I can tell you that

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  Рік тому

      I have a 150’ 10/3 cord for the 220v side. And I’ve ran 3/32 with a 15’ 12 gauge cord for 110v. Usually when I’m running 110v there’s a plug very near by.

    Cual es la diferencia entre las diferentes versiones de la TransPocket 180 ? los accesorios o también cambia en algo la maquina ya que parece que hay mucha diferencia de precio entre unas y otras.

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  Рік тому

      The trans pocket 180 stick has stick mode and basic tig settings but you need a scratch start tig torch to run tig same as any old stick welder. The stick/tig package has more tig functions, a built in air line with solenoid for argon and the ability to use the fronius tig torch and adjust your settings from the torch.

    I have the same set up as you, a T2200 and a T 180. what size is you generator? when running 7014 1/8 I run 140 amps or more
    and the slag just falls off. 3/32 i run 100 amps . I run both at 3.5 hz pulse that way you get a nice ripple. I have found 7018 goes up nice 7014 goes down nice.. Currently I am running Esab 7100 ultra dual shield 035 in my t 2200 with 75/25 gas.Would be nice to see some more videos of you using both welders.

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  4 роки тому

      the generator is a rigid 8500/6800 watt. And thanks for the info. I'm currently trying to figure out the transsteel a bit better myself before making any videos of it. Its pretty new to me and coming from a Lincoln 180 right into a Lincoln 210 mp and this transsteel all at the same time the learning curve is a bit slow. currently I have run about 30 pounds of .035 e70-6 through the trans steel and about a pound or two of aluminum and some fabshield 21b. its really nice but does take some getting used to. I'll try the 3.5 hz on the transpocket and see what happens.

      yes. I've been looking into how to set up arc shots. I have a camcorder that would work perfect for it now. I just need to find the right lens filters for it.

    excellent machines but seriously you need to go back to school and man up that is bad welding to be put up here also when you do a video have what you need to do the demo

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries  3 роки тому +1

      sorry my welds do not meet your expectations. I never claimed they were perfect. It was more so for demonstrating that the machine had pulse mode to answer a viewer. Before this video was made I ran 7014 like a total of 3 times. The only reason I used that and not 7018 is I bought a crap ton of 7014 and had it lying around. I needed the 7018 I had for a job I was headed towards. so I chose to try and make the 7014 work. I also just got done learning how to tig weld on the same piece of metal about 2 minutes before the video was filmed. I don't know if you can see it in the video or not but I blew some really huge bubbles in the steel with the tig welder so the steel was extremely hot before I started filming.
      I do make better welds but A lot of my better welds you will never see on here because I ain't got time to video them. either that or they are done in an Amish weld shop were they really don't want me filming stuff.
