Such a beautiful song, the best of the album in my opinion. So many of you have said it has a 50-60’s flavour and indeed it has. This song has a special meaning for me as my father passed away last week, and we both had a difficult relationship since the begging of time. We were wounded in a crossfire of offenses and disappointments from both sides at different moments, but still beneath of all the grievances there was love. We both loose in the game of love. Love is not only for lovers.

A perfectly stylized song! First I thought it's a cover but it turns out that Adele is back with her versatility as an artist. Keep my fingers crossed. This song hits me like a harpoon in more ways than one. Lyrically orchestrally it's beautiful. It has an operatic quality that almost evokes someone like Nina Simone or Cass elliot. As a song it's a masterpiece.
The meaning cuts so much deeper. It reminds me of this guy who I met over a year ago who completely swept me off my feet. It was a long distance relationship. I told him I was going to come out to see him and I saw his interest waning. I did work away in his country so I could ensure that I would have a way to find my feet. I saw him pulling away. Becoming less and less interested. I just wanted him to be upfront with me. And he never was. Even while I was out in the country that he was in. Eventually he just messaged me one day when I was already feeling very disillusioned and told me that he took no responsibility for the fact that I was out there and everything that had gone wrong.
It broke me. Eventually I disconnected myself and flew back home to the US lick my wounds and slowly but surely began over. But when I hear this song I'm right back there that one day of Revelation when I realized all the passion all the concern all the ferver was simply on my side. It was never on his.
So the song is beautiful but all I can think of is the anguish that I was put through. Not by him but by me for believing in a fairy tale that was just that.
