A truly amazing band of incredibly talented musicians, and with the writings and vocals of Shane, took Irish music to the masses.
So sad to see the news of Shane's death. Thanks for the ride mate. RIP

Truly, truly, truly sad news. I didn't know Him till 2 weeks ago. But I listened to a Pogues' audiocassette of mine several years ago. Now I, Italian, watch and listen to Shane MacGowan every day. I am '75, forever fond of Him, glory of Ireland. ❤

Sounds amazing. The closest comparable memory i have like that is goin to family values tour right after cash died. It was a rough concert. A guy died. But before the first band came on the pa played walk the line and everyone in the arena stopped what they were doing and sang along. It was so organic and beautiful. I had tears in my eyes. My only truly amazing concert experiance

hardly a waste of talent. Shane did everything he wanted to do, he just did it in a remarkably short period of time. He's got a back catalogue to die for, some of the most beautiful songs ever written, they'll be sung and played for centuries to come.

They played this at Glasgow Barrowlands on St Patrick night around 1989
Spider took me back stage to meet the band
A memory I will keep forever and this cover takes me back to that night
I have Shane’s autograph on the back of his benson and hedges cig packet
    Thanks Spider

There is a recording from the album 'Just Look Them Straight In The Eye And Say... Pogue Mahone!' which is a performance of this at the Barrowlands with Kirsty McColl on backup, which means it was likely a part of the If I should Fall Tour. It may just be the very performance you were at :)

I saw Mojo Nixon... open for the Pogues... who were opening for the Violent Femmes. At an outdoor concert in the summer, back when they used to let you bring in coolers of beer, in a light rain that stirred up just enough mud to cover the dancing crowd. One of the best concerts/nights of my life.

No I’m afraid it was just his first encounter losing his virginity on a patch of grass the once with a overweight woman in her mid 30’s yes he was 16 or 17 he said he couldn’t remember he went on to say it was inspired by a true story but after reading it , there’s hardly anything related to the song , her name wasn’t Maggie may he took that name from a Liverpool folk song about a Liverpool prostitute called that name , that was it no relationship whatsoever just a short encounter he and his friends sneaked in to a jazz festival that’s where he had sex with her no more than that !! according to him during an interview in Q magazine 2007 so really there’s not much in the song that is actually true going off his own account, so no your wrong it’s certainly not all true read his own account

Actually, this is NOT a Faces song, it was written by Stewart and Martin Quittenton, and recorded for 'Every Picture Tells a Story'; as far as I know, the only members of the Faces to even take part in the recording, were Ronnie Wood and organist Ian McLagan.

***** when Rod appeared on TOTPs with this tune all the Faces were there, and he toured that year with the Faces, and they were playing this and You Wear It Well :) But you may be right on the original recording I don't know if Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones were on the recording :)
