Beseria was good but Xillia 1 and 2 are always top tier in my list. Had the most fun with those games, skits were always funny and hilarious and the characters are so memorable.

My fave part of ToS: Dawn of the new world has to be Ratatosk and Emil's relationship. I know a lot of people hated Emil for being a wimp for 90% of the game, but that's kind of the point. Emil being so kind rubs off on the jaded Ratatosk. Ratatosk is absolutely rightfully angry and pissed. Humanity destroyed his tree and he wakes up and not only has he been replaced but everything's going to shit. I really like that both grow from each other. Emil gains his courage and Ratatosk learns compassion which makes the ending where he lets Emil live the rest of his human life so touching while the Centurions cover for him. Dawn of the New World has a ton of problems, but I do think Richter, Emil and hell, even Marta are great. Shame that they couldn't have lead their own game instead.

Played it pretty much blind after symphonia (and with japanese voices so didn't have to get used to any changes) and really enjoyed it. Played it on PS3 so I avoided all the motion controls also!

@@lolcat I have a soft spot for it. Cause im willing to sort of block out all the like actual Tales of Symphonia stuff and see it as the Emil and Marta story. I dont remember if this was fact or not but I remember hearing this was supposed to be its own game before it was forced to be a sequel to ToS. If true then I think we got the bad timeline but I do like what couldve been

I played Dawn of the New World on the ps3. I’d played the first game on GameCube back in the day but never got to beat it - wasn’t able to actually finish it till the PS3 release.
Anyway, by the time I was able to play Dawn of the New World, I’d heard plenty about how horribly it was received by the fan base, so I went in cautiously - but I can’t deny I was actually really excited because it looked good to me and I was excited to see what happened next for all the characters.
Honestly? I don’t really get what people were so bent out of shape about. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the first game was better overall, but there was plenty that I really enjoyed about the sequel - especially the story of the new characters, Emil and Ratatosk in particular.

Funny enough I did exactly what you said for Xillia 2. Basically had a family friend going through hard times staying at my grandmas place and I brought my PS3 to play the Xillias with his kid and get him into the series. He didnt have as much time due to school so I just grinded through all the side quests and we played the story bits together. He ended up loving the games.

One of the my favourite things about Vesperia is also its visuals. I remember back when it was released on the Xbox 360, I was so entranced by the bright colours and magic (which in my opinion, Vesperia has the best magic in the series by far) that I bought the platform specifically to play this game. Then for years and YEARS I held onto the hope that I’d get to play the full PS3 version. And when the definitive version was announced? I rejoiced.

Should have talked about the remakes on vita too, so far Tales of Hearts R has my favorite combat and progression system, the characters for combat offer different kind of playstyles to experiment and the progression system allows for more variety on how they can be built around

Also the Tales of Hearts R has the best artificial intelligence for party members EVER. In fact I don't think I've seen any other game with that level of customization.

    • @matth1641
      @matth1641 Місяць тому

@@Cao13The strategy options for Hearts R are definitely the best in the series for sure. However, the actual AI is not that great and has limitations that can't be fixed with the strategy options. If you ever do a deep, thorough analysis of Hearts R's AI you'll end up realizing that the strategy options can only cover up so much.

@@matth1641 Really? I guess my standards are just pretty low haha. I loved them and found them to be the best but maybe I was just judging on how they did the thing I set them to do and didn't pay much attention to the rest. Also when compared to the ones in symphonia dawn on the new world... Damn those sets and AI were awful, it was best just to assume you only had 2 characters and nothing else.

I don’t know why we can’t have every tales game on modern consuls. If I can play legally Final Fantasy one through six on a cell phone Why can’t they do that for Tales? But we get Tales of Symphonia in HD, as in they forgot Tales Of Symphonia chronicles was also HD and came with Symphonia 2 and Maybe Grace f. Outside of new players and maybe collectors Who actually bought tales of Symphonia HD and Why? It’s another port of the PlayStation 2 version where the GameCube is still definitive. Where is the sense in this ?

Tales of legendia Technically I know very little about the world because it all takes place on one ship. I love the second half of the game a lot more despite the fact it’s not voice acted. These PlayStation 2 Tales games can’t catch a break they always seem to run out of money for the voice acting

It's weird that in spite of the many flaws with Tales of Legendia: the world, the characters, the music, everything has kind of found its way in my heart playing the game again. I did play the game back in 2007, and it was the third Tales game I had played (first Symphonia, then the Phantasia GBA port), and it wasn't the game at the time I felt the strongest about (that was Symphonia). But I dunno, something about it stuck with me hard finally finishing Part 2 last year (I had only beaten the first part back in the day).
Graces f has a similar feeling to me, where it took me so long to finish it (I started it in 2015, finished it last year), that I had this annual attachment to playing a bit of it every summer (though I took a break from it for a long time). I think the battle system and the sheer amount of content made it so worthwhile to me.

Zesteria soundtrack is insane. I think because they wanted to increase overall production quality around this time and it really shows in the ost.

It really is sad that all the goodwill Berseria & Arise curried, Bandai Namco squandering it. Seriously, why are they so adamant in NOT giving anymore news or releases concerning the Tales series? And in an era were RPGs very far more prominent now. Like they're trying to lose fans here. Anyway, I agree with you in your few statements, if they could combine the best things from the last three Tales games, it'd be something truly amazing! But right now, Bamco has nothing but my ire.

They need to remake Tales of legendia like they did with Tales of Hearts-R.
Full 3d battles, HD graphics. Give Voice acting to the 2nd half of the game. Give the characters actual Mystic artes (one of the games which don't have them for some reason).

I think tales is really a series where each individual’s opinions and preferences are heavily influenced by when they got started.
Like many, I got started with the series with Tales of Symphonia - and I think it’s due to my coming in around there that my favorites in order are Graces, Abyss, Symphonia, and Vesperia. The games from that era just all had a similar feel in terms of story, characters, gameplay, world building, etc. so I always feel right at home with them.
Xillia was a rough one for me, but I went on to really enjoy Xillia 2. Zestiria ended up being a massive disappointment for me as I could not really connect with the story or the characters, and the gameplay just didn’t do it for me (I remember they made a lot of changes to equipment that made things really boring for me.) then Berseria came out and, for me, it was just as bad as Zestiria. At least the story seemed like it would be more interesting, but even with that, I couldn’t muscle through it because they made the decision to lean so much more into the skits for the story telling. Sure, there were still traditional cutscenes, but do you realize how much of that story is told through skits? And the skits are so looong!! Like minutes upon minutes of watching a visual novel - which, to me, just isn’t what I think of when I think, “tales series”
I really hoped Tales of Arise would rope me back in, but for me it wound up being my all time least favorite entry in the series. I just hope thought it was so freaking boring. Couldn’t connect with the characters, wasn’t at all interested in the world, the plot twist kinda fell flat for me, they again went the route of telling a large portion of the story through skits (although not as much as Berseria from what I could tell) and holy man did I dislike the battle system. It was just a big swing and a miss for me.
Now these are all my opinions, and like I said, I think for many it depends on where they entered into the series. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are many who came in with Zestiria and loved it, Berseria, and Arise to death. Who knows, they may hate the earlier games. And I’m sure there are plenty of people who just love all of them - shoot, I’m positive there are plenty of people who trash on Graces, and it’s my personal favorite.
To each their own, different strokes for different folks. I’ll hold out for more remasters of my favorites.

Honest here, tales of zestiria and berseria are the reasons I stoped buying tales games on launch day. I greatly dislike the combat system, feels cheap and too basic, the equipment system is incredibly stressful (got so feed of it that on berseria I went to the final boss with the starting equipment of every character I used since I never bothered in changing them).
Ironically, Arise was wonderful, loved the characters, the story, the world and so many other aspects but I just can't ring myself to finish it. I like it but it just doesn't hook me =(. Very good game, tho.

It appears that Tales is in a quiet/uncertain state right now but it’s always on my mind. Rest in peace Inomata.🫡 At least we got a new illustration. I’m patient for the next mainline entry but I want remakes/remasters of all the 2D Tales entries (Phantasia to Rebirth) similar to Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster with many quality of life enhancements and a beginner friendly mode but not quite on the level of Star Ocean 2 remake or the upcoming Dragon Quest III remake, just being realistic here. The current state of Tales is like back in 2022 where barely any 2D fighting games were announced. I was starving for 2D fighter announcements given I’m a huge fan of 2D fighting games, especially the ones that feature an anime art style to it.
