Scrooge 1951 - Alstair Sim

- This version is with Alstair Sim and is considered by many to be one of the first "good" depictions of the original classic A Christmas Story by Charles Dickens. This is intended for resident entertainment at Beatitudes Campus.
Alastair Sim is the greatest Scrooge of all time.
You got that right!!! Handsdown!
I agree ❤
I believe George C. Scott did in 1984
I totally agree. 👏👏
Well that’s your opinion and your privy to it. But with all due respect, I believe Reginald Owen in my humble opinion is the epitome of the character.
This is by far the best Christmas Carol of all time.
Totally agree with you!
Amen.
Time ten
Absolutely agree!
My sentiment exactly.
Tears rolling down my cheeks every time I watch this. I'm 70!
What a masterpiece, based on the wonderful work of Dickens.
The acting and music are pure magic.
If you aren't moved by it I suggest you're a Scrooge version one.
I try to view this every December. I cry every time. It has an emotional grip that other versions lack. To be fair, there are other good versions with stellar acting, but nobody comes close to the emotional power of this version.
It also brings tears to my eyes in a number of scenes.
I love the music too. So much that I've picked up a few bits and pieces that I use at my work at a dance school at this time of year. And one of the instructors was really delighted when I played the music to Tiny Tim's gazing at all the toys in the shop. :)
I don't know how anyone can't shed tears when Fran dies or when Bob Cratchit breaks down in tears. I cry every time.
A masterpiece that will never be bettered.
Yes!..I am guilty of tearing up watching this one.
Have watched this every year since I was a child. Am almost 80. It never disappoints. Alastair is the best Scrooge of all time! 👍🏻🎄
Out of all the film adaptations, this 1951 version, with the magnificent Alistair Sim, is the best... There's something about A Christmas Carol, that helps you remember, what it is be apart of the human race, in a good way... Merry Christmas 2023 & in the immortal words of Tim, " God Bless Us, Every One..🙂..❤🎅🎁🎄
I agree 100 💯 percent!! Be kind all and let us remember what Christmas is all about!! Happiness and blessings to all! 🙏☺️
🎄❤️🎄
❤ Yes.
Most DEFINITELY👍👏!!!
Thank you for Sharing It with Us...Merry Christmas 🎄 dude
No other Scrooge can compare to Alister Sim... He sorta broke the mold....I am 80 and have watched this as a family Christmas show for as long as I can remember. My kids and grandchildren now do the same.....We all look forward to this movie.
One of my favorite parts of this is how quickly Fred brings him in. It shows he truly meant his goodwill to Scrooge and never gave up on him. This is the version of A Christmas Carol for me and I always feel uplifted at the end.
That's my favorite too, that whole scene. Fred is so gracious, and his wife's focus is that Scrooge has "made Fred so happy". That shows true caring for one another. I also like the man who gets everyone up dancing.
Another favorite scene is when Cratchit arrives late to work the day after Christmas, and the expression of fear on his face that he may be about to get fired. Then, the look that follows when Scrooge tells him he is going to have to raise his salary.
Another favorite is near the beginning of the movie when the nephew visits Scrooge at the office and wishes him a "Merry Christmas!" Fred stops to ask Cratchit about his family, and after Fred leaves, Cratchit eyes follow him with a lingering look. It is as if he is so relieved and grateful to have a presence like Fred in the office in contrast to the atmosphere that Scrooge creates around him.
So many touching scenes. Just once, I wish that someone would make a movie like this and the many other movie treasures of the past.
I've watched this version of Scrooge since I was a child and I'm 70 now, and it has always remained my absolute favorite Christmas film. Sim is without comparison in his brilliant embodiment of Scrooge. This is the most faithful film rendition of Dickens' work and it really captures the feel of Victorian England, especially that nightmarish scene at the cave-like rag picker's shop with obviously ill child laborers. But my favorite scene is Scrooge's morning redemption and his dancing about "....as light as a feather and as giddy as a schoolboy!!"
Priceless.
My favorite version of Scrooge, I love it!!
No 1984 Goerge C scott was superior but this is 2nd then 2019 was 3rd
@@GidionApexI love George C Scott in everything he's done, But not as good as Sim as Scrooge!
@@GidionApex I can't watch him in anything since I learned that he used to beat up Ava Gardner............until Frank Sinatra put a stop to it.
@@GidionApex I've seen Scott's version multiple times. I guess it comes down to taste and to each his own. However, I really can't see how Scott's version comes even close to Sim's. Scott's "redemption" pales in comparison to Sim's. And several similar scenes of Scott's version just don't match the emotional power of Sim's. Moreover, the supporting cast doesn't match the story in Scott's version as with Sim's. Bob Cratchit is moody and rebellious in Scott's version whereas he's faithful and true in spite of Scrooge's meanness in Sim's. Although Scott tries to be mean in his version, the coldblooded harness comes through better with Sim. I don't see this as a close call at all.
@@billcollins2798Well you're wrong about everything you said..so there's that. Irrelevant kid 👎😂
I watch this every Xmas. Its the version I grew up on.
I just watched it today...again...in JUNE!!! I simply ADORE this version!!!!!
Keep that tradition up my friend!
I watch this one EVERY year. It brings back memories of watching this very one with my mom. ❤
Many fine actors have acted the role of Scrooge. However, Sim's portrayal is the definitive version for me. His joyful transformation is a wonder to behold!
This was my Dad's favorite I remember watching this with him when I was a little kid. Hes no longer with us but whenever I watch this I think of those days great memories back then. 🎄
I'm now 74 and this remains my preferred rendition of Dicken's tale. Alistair Sim gave a superlative performance! It is my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Thank you for presenting it on UA-cam.
it's become a Christmas tradition, turn down the lights, have a hot chocolate, wrap myself up in a warm blanket and watch this version. Merry Christmas!
I agree nobody could play Scrooge like Alistair Sim
And many of us who have watched this beloved movie for many decades during the Christmas season, know all the words by heart!
This is the greatest scrooge of all time! It’s not Christmas without this rendition of Scrooge!
The absolute best adaption by far.
I love when the ghost of Christmas present takes him to see Alice helping the “ surplus population” seeing they’re good people who are just sick and poor.
In my childhood this movie would be on TV but we didn't watch it, we were only interested in the typical cartoons or stop motion productions by Rankin Bass, now I'm 61 and never go a year without watching this, sometimes more than once a Christmas season, it strikes a chord in a personal way, it's a brilliant movie.
This is the definitive “A Christmas Carol” film. Alastair Sim was born to play Scrooge.
Its tradition in my family to watch this gem every Christmas Eve 🎄
Me too. Every Christmas this we popped the vhs tape in the vcr . Now I watch it on You tube . : ) just as good 👍 🎄
Best Scrooge film ever. ❤
when i was a child i got up on christmas morning to watch this film,we had no presents as we were poor, but this film filled me with happyness for sure, thanks for the upload.
❤
❤
❤
I myself had hard times during this period and can only say, bless you and yours because it is only by your statement that I realize I wasn't by my self.
I grew up watching the 2009 version, but wow, this version is amazing! Much more faithful to the novella, and it really warmed my heart unlike any other. Scrooge talking with Mrs. Dilber and onward is my favorite part of all conversions so far, especially with Bob and Scrooge, I really felt the same as Bob… Merry and Happy! Thank you for uploading!
In my opinion the best adaptation of all time, Thank you.
Of course, this is without a doubt the BEST Scrooge , Alister Sim is the best.
I agree Alastair Sim has the best facial expressions of all the scrooges. This is the best ever.
I’ve watched this movie for over 60 years. I absolutely love it and Alistair Sims portrayal of Scrooge. He was the best Scrooge of all time.
I have found that I am becoming more like my late mother during the holidays. Watching all of the movies she did. The older I get the more like her I become.
It must be a Teresa thing . My mother watched all these now I do . Have a Merry Christmas and the best New Year.
My deepest condolences. 💐 You will see her again. Keep going
The clarity of the print is amazing considering the film was made 72 years ago! And
Alistair Sim's performance and personality make it The Best of all the Scrooge films.
Thank you for posting this delightful film......
Unlike other versions, this one includes the backstory about old Jacob Marley.
I love all Christmas Stories especially Alstair Sim and George C Scott.
Alistair Sim feels like the most natural Scooge in my opinion. This is a great film!
Thank you so much for making this film available.
My favourite ever 😊
The very best Christmas story. Alistair sim was brilliant
My favourite version of the great classic. There is such a sense of urgency about Marley's Ghost.
Alistair Sim was fantastic. You really saw his Scrooge develop from a confused and neglected young man into a money hungry miser into a reformed good a man as the old city ever knew. And his chemistry with Mrs dilbur was dynamite
Best version ever with the best Scrooge ever...
Best of all the Christmas Carol movies ever made. Alastair Sims is phenomenal as Scrooge. Watch this movie every year and it never ever gets old.
This was IMHO the best version filmed. Alastair Sim truly was Scrooge.
Ive loved Alastair sim since being a child.this version of scrooge is the very best.no one else can touch him ❤
What a beautiful version, and probably the best .
It had extra moral nuances ( his unscrupulous work ways & putting his old boss , who was very kind, out of business ) that the others don't, and it mentions the " child of Bethlehem " so we don't forget the reason for doing good.or it's origins.
The visuals and simple effects are more credible than later colour versions .
Scrooge is excellent.
Happy Christmas to each and all of us !🎈🎁😇🙏♥️😊
⛄️ 🎄⛄️🎄
Yes that is my favorite Christmas Carol of all time
I also love the 1935 version with Seymour Hicks! Fabulous to see how an 88 year old film holds out against modern ones. The sound is not great but so atmospheric!!
The best and I watch it every year. It is a great film, and the best version, it helps reset your moral compass. I always tear up when Bob comes home to tell the family where Tiny Tim will be buried.
Best Scrooge ever!!! I was this every year at Christmas… thank you for sharing this!
My favorite version. Thank you.
I just love this version, remember it being on tv while we had some quality street chocolates ( big tins back then) i didnt really take as much notice then but it means more now... i love the feel of this movie....it takes me back...good old days❤.
Used to play this movie over and over again every xmas eve on tv WPIX 11 when I was a kid growing up in the Bronx it's a classic and I'll be back on xmas eve to watch it again. Merry Xmas world.
Fred's housekeeper, who doesn't have a single line, who only gives a small smile and quick nod - is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. She seems to smile at all of us, and let us know everything's OK.
Her name was Teresa Derrington. I loved her in this movie too!
@@Silver_Owl thank you for that information. Not a single line, only a few of seconds of screen time, yet it's her smile when the lump in my throat forms and eyes well up. Just a beautiful woman in every way.
@@shouldhavedonebetter You're welcome, thanks. I agree, she's lovely!
Nice to know others noticed her as well. She says is all with a nod and a smile.
@@annethehorse6073 yes - 1:21:12 - just 2 seconds. But a powerful 2 seconds. Apparently Teresa Derrington made one other movie, 'The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men', but cannot be spotted. She got married a year after 'Scrooge' (in the US, it was titled a 'Christmas Carol') and had 5 children, (Ms. Derrington was also one of a triplet!). She got a degree in Art History, and taught into her 70's. Very sadly, she passed in Jan. 2021 at the age of 89.
Oh, this is my very favorite Scrooge and watch it every year. Best Scrooge actor ever.
Love love love this version!
Been waiting for this version 🤗. Nothing like the old Classic ? My favorite & black & white a must!💖
I've watched this every year for as long as I can remember Alistair Sims best Scrooge followed closely by Albert Finney 🎄
My family tradition as a kid (I’m 61 now) was to watch the Albert Finney version (which I actually saw in the theater the 1st time) every year. My favorite is Alstair Sim, and my second favorite is the George C Scott version, and I’ve fallen love with the Seymour Hicks version as well.
@@paranormalskeptic3893 🎄🎄⛄⛄
Not the Muppets second? 😂
@@tommo9757 yes I do like the Muppets Christmas carol too 😂😂
Ive loved this as a small child it scared me!!!!😂😂😂. But this is the best version of this wonderful movie❤
This is the best version of Scrooge by far. I hope that Scrooge buys Tiny Tim the laughing clown that Tim was looking at in the beginning of the movie.
One of the Best Movies ever created. Script, Cast, Set, Costume, Soundtrack. Also the Quality of this download is AMAZING!
This is the only Christmas movie i truly enjoy watching. Alistair Sim nails it. Thank you for posting it. Could never find it anywhere . Merry Christmas.
My favorite version. Thank you so very much! ❤
Classic. Love this♥️
No one has, or imho will, ever match Alistair Sims as Scrooge. Not only his delivery, but his expressive face adds to his personification of Scrooge. This is by far the best of them all.
This was a treat. It has been too many years. Being older than when I first saw it, it was more meaningful.
Now I want to read that version.
My favorite version of Scrooge . . . A true classic 👌
Most wonderful film, thank you so much,I really appreciate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This helps me revisit my childhood Christmas feelers every year without fail.... thank you!
Masterpiece ❤
Thank you
I'm 65 and I have watched this movie every year since I can remember it's the best Christmas movie and Alistair Sims is the best Scrooge thanks
No hiss or crackle ,what a treat
Unless you’ve goy tinnitus 👍😂
This is my all time favorite version of this movie!! I watch it everyday during the holidays!!
This version has always been, and will always be my favorite. Alistair Sims has the perfect emotional range and the most amazing transformation, most authentic to Mr Dickens' description.
Over the years , there were a few occasions when I could not find it, or simply missed it in the listings, and Christmas just wasn't the same.
Such a timeless movie. The best Scrooge movie ever produced. Thank you so much for this!
I have watched this adaptation, by far the best adaptation, since I was 10 years old every year at Christmas time..I am now 69
Love this version of Scrooge ❤️ watch it every year.😊
This great movie still speaks volumes❤
One of my favorite watch it anytime of the year.
One of the greatest movies of all time. Thank you for sharing.
This is a masterpiece. I can’t watch any other version.
Thank you so much, Mr. Andrews, for posting the movie. This is the definitive version for me. And a happy holiday to you and yours!
Made by a small British company, Renown, presumably to cash in on David Lean's Dickens adaptations. But Alec Guinness and nobody else could have surpassed Sim, moving from cold menace through terror to revelation, in the perfectly cast central part. And his bravura performance is surrounded by the rich and large resources of English character acting (above all, Harrison) which stretched back to Dickens's day and influenced his taste for melodrama and grotesquerie in fiction, with its catchphrases and tics.
The production design is handsomely detailed and the narrative crisp: Noel Langley, the scenarist, is able to decant most of the short novel's features into a film's runtime. Music by Dicky Addinsell and photography by Pennington Richards attest to how British movie craftsmanship had caught up with Hollywood's, making of a modest project a lastingly satisfying watch. It is the best version of a much-filmed property.
Absolute best version of all ! Thank you for posting this for all to enjoy.
Thank you so much for this production! The clarity of visual and fantastic sound is wonderful.
For me this is the best Scrooge ever made.
Love this version ! MRS DILBER is wonderful ! ❤ I watch this every Christmas eve before sleeping , give me that Christmas feeling 🤗
I love when she says "to keep me mouth shut" in response to his gift of money. LOL.
My favorite movie of all time. Not only xmas but FOREVER.. 😢😢😢😢it was magnificent 💓😅😅😅😮😮😅😅😅😅😅Alister sim and cast was fabulous
Poor Ms. Delba.... she really thought he lost his mind.... This classic version , With the late great Alstair Sim as Scrooge is the standard all others are measured. There are a few that get close and/or equal, but this version really captures so much about how the metamorphosis in Scrooge's heart takes place.
Ms. Delba, Fred's housekeeper, and his wife could see it immediately.. which gives the actresses great credit as well.
Thank you for posting this.Warmed my heart. It brought forth qualities we are so dearly lacking in todays world.
Yes, exactly!
Wow, this IS THE classic Christmas movie. Though I have seen it before, tonight, this time has more meaning to me as my Pop died June 2022 ( he was born in 1940), watching this again (filmed in 1951) I know my Pop saw this more than once gowning up. THANK YOU for sharing Robert Andrews, THANK YOU! Some how I feel as if he is watching it with me, tears of joy. Merry Christmas ❤❤🎅🎅
It's the 7th of November and this the best of all of them.😊😊😊
I cry every time I watch this!!! And I watching it JUNE 27th, 2024!!! Of all the versions of this story this one is by far the GREATEST!!! And Alistair Sim played the BEST Scrooge EVER!!!!!! And God bless us..everyONE!!!!.
My favorite version
This can never be matched! The great Alastair Sim. What a marvellous cast, they made this a forever favourite and an absolute must every Christmas. Thank you for sharing a true classic ❤
I so enjoyed watching this story again. It brings me tears to my eyes each year. May this happiness be true again in our world in every heart!
The best version.
The way they actually created a new movie out of the original story instead of just rote following the text really is wonderful. And it's totally believable - no fluff, just expansion of the world. The fear in Sim's eyes truly captures how a man blindly wrapped up in worldly business would react to seeing the ethereal.
This is the best out of all
It makes me cry when Scrooge is changed at the end. What a great story.
I watch this film throughout the year; I never tire of it… an absolute classic!🙏🏼
Thank you for posting this! Other posters have written what I would have. Regarding the intro music, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" is one of the loveliest versions I've ever heard. That's when the film becomes very magical.
One of the Greatest stories ever written.
I am 67 years old now, I love this movie. I'll watch it right in the middle of summer I call it my Christmas and July. I also like the one with Albert Finney, that one is entertaining but Alistair Simms version makes me think more about what life is about.
