Just picked up an all black 88 Corvette yesterday. The outside and under body is great condition with no rust at all. 9,702 miles, cant wait to modify it and take it to the dream cruise next summer😍
I did not care for these cars when they first came out, but I have grown to appreciate them over the years! I’m trying to think of a new model year that advanced a car further than the move from C3 to C4 Corvette’s? What a perfect little weekend cruiser for a “car guy” who is still saddled with the financial responsibilities of kids, houses, spouses, etc……👍
Probably the C7 to C8
I had a blck ’88 with the 4+3 and the Z51. The OD could be engadged in 1st under full throttle. Man was that a blast. Still miss it 🥲
The best looking fuel injection system ever produced. Love these cars.
Beautiful
I see at the recent auctions that C4's are finally starting to go up in value.
Steve they are bargains but it's hard to find one that hasn't been all messed with I would love to have one for a decent price in that shape
I bought an 86 2 years ago. I love that car.
The later ones with the analogue gauges and a 6 speed were the best looking in and out. All of them look great with the hood up unlike most any other car. You can see everything.
Bought a 92 Corvette convertible last year. Always wanted a Corvette and as you said, the C4 was a great way to get in on the cheap(ish).
Really love the style of these year Vettes.
The bubble rear window came out in 1978.
I was scrolling the comments to see if someone else caught that, he said '76-80, untrue
My cousin have one of those! And my brother in law, my brother in law sold his and ended up buying a 2005 c6. Nice one!👌😎👍
The logo in the center of the dash is installed upside down.
This Vette will be worth more year after year if kept in clean running condition.
Electronic dash can be a problem but there are techs who repair them now instead of replacing them. Cheers 🇨🇦
The 6-speed manual came out in 1989. The high mounted brake light came out in 1986, along with anti-lock brakes.
This is a 1988 model, not a 1985. They've since corrected the title of the video.
I think the high mounted brake lights started in 86.
2:54 anyone else notice the upside down logo on the entertainment center panel? If that’s a factory goof that’s actually kind of cool.
The c4 logo over the indicator light panel is aftermarket. And, yes, the logo is upside down.
My uncle had a black 89 z52. He'd let me take it out every once and awhile for a cruise. I'd like to get my hands on one for a daily car in the summer.
This C4 is an '88, not an '85
It says 1988 in the title
@@Enderito Yeah it does now, cause they edited/fixed it!
Nice corvette!
Beautiful car but its not an 85. Might want to fix your title on the video.
This isn't a 1985 model as referenced in the title of the video, it's a 1988 model as Steve states correctly at the end. Even though someone hand wrote it on the window sticker (not the build sheet, that was a misquote by Steve), the VIN confirms it:
With the VIN, we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, YY for Corvette, 2 for two door hatchback, 1 for manual seat belts, 8 for 5.7L V8 with Tuned Port Injection, aka RPO code "L98", X is a check digit, J for the 1988 model year (F would be for 1985), 5 for Bowling Green, KY assembly and the rest is the production sequence. No, the third stop light became mandatory for the 1986 model year, but some 1985 GM products got it early (Cadillacs come to mind).
Also, by 1988, the "build sheet" although still present on many models, most parts people went by the SPID label which stood for Service Parts Identification. That gave the dealership parts personnel (and good aftermarket parts personnel) the listing of what options the car came with and what components it was built with. Yes, the Corvette convertible came back in 1986, after it hadn't been offered since the 1975 model year. This car is code 90 Gray Metallic paint. There were only 644 units painted that color in 1988 or about 2.83% of total production. There were 22,789 cars made for the 1988 model year. There were 15,382 coupes and the balance were convertibles.
Steve, I remember you working on that Vette you had and did articles on it. I even remember you blowing up the engine!😂😂😂😂
Not my cup of tea, but the C4 was a massive upgrade from the C3
Bummer, they put that eBay dash plate on upside down…. Nice car.
The 76 and 77 C3 corvettes had the flat back window
I think you're right 78 was 1st bubble windows
Yup. Steve got his facts wrong again.
@@speaknoevo years ago I restored a 77/Corvette and learned a lot about the C3 corvette with the help of the corvette forum
Okay...I gotta know about the Cadillac behind you and I'd love to see a walk-around of the white Ford GT even though it's not really the point of your channel.
Edit: Nevermind...I found the Caddy video
Wait…did he say the body colored top is a two piece? WTF. They were all one piece targa tops. I guess you only get one top with this car, there should be two (that’s how it was on my 85 when you went for that option). Time to revise the title as well to read 1988.
Steve. You can't not show us that caddy behind you now!
insurance on a corvette is more expensive than rent on my apartment !!
Not to bash someone just trying to sell a car, but, a lot of facts are wrong in this video. There were no two-piece tops on C4s. I don't know where he's coming up with that. There was no rear bubble glass in 1976-1977.
Wonder what price range it is.
Nice walk-around, Steve. What year did GM finally stop offering the Doug Nash 4+3 manual trans?
1989 was the first year for the ZF 6 speed.
Did Steve just refer to a '62 as a C3?
:20 I used to think Magnante was the walking book but lately he has been making several errors in these ADVERTISEMENTS. He says that C3 Corvettes went "all the way back to 62." Any one with basic Corvette knowledge knows C1's were to 1962, C2's from 63 to 67, and C4 in 84. He gets both C2 and C3 years all wrong and mixes up information from C3's and C4's. Wow, getting old is hell, even for Steve.
The c2 was introduced Sept 1962, so technically, the c2/c3 suspensiin he eas referencing does date back to '62.
The wheels on this 1985 presented are not correct for the year.
I think this car is a 1988 not a 1985 like the title says, so the wheels are correct.
@@TheMotorman80 It is tough to read but the fuel mileage section of the window sticker does say 1988. Plus, I don’t believe the 1985’s were required to have the third brake light yet.
@@TheMotorman80 Possible. Also possible, wheel swap upgrade from the 16" to 17" Not uncommon.
Yeah, I've got a '90 Integra RS I'm looking to trade in...........hello ?...........hello ?
