    I literally follow you on every social media platform and you have become one of my favorite people to watch because of this. Because your concern is the animals health! And to touch on how they get abandoned i found their isn’t a law that protects from animal abuse either! I rescued my bearded dragon from literally the brink of death because someone didn’t want to deal with him anymore. So I appreciate what your doing and all your videos.

    I got one recently but the breeder outcrossed this line for many years & mine is extremely healthy and very beautiful. It’s sad how this line started but it’s nice to see certain breeders who have corrected this line by outcrossing these lines to make them very strong and healthy

    Dude, I love Beardos, just came across this video. As gorgeous as they are and regardless of cost, I know how genetics work and I had a bad feeling that their genetics would be potentially crippling or deadly. So thanks for highlighting that fact. Good luck with cleaning up the lines.

    Damn dude this sucks, I was really interested in looking for one of these beardies, those are beautiful colors they look more like actual dragons than the average colored beardies. All they’d need are wings.

    Just going to say yes these guys were heavily line bred, but so are the other variations on the market when they were first started out. Idk the genetic sample size that is in the US now from China, but this isn't shocking and if people were smart they would outcross those animals with deep reds or animals with dark bars then take the darkest of those to raise up and cross half siblings together (or go to a different line of dark halflings) to then breed back out to more new blood. Reptiles aren't like people their is a lot of play room genetic wise, but it does have its limits. This is why people with zeros breed het to het or visible recessive to het to help increase that gene pool. The ethics on this is knowing when to cross out and add new blood rather than going the easiest route and just breeding sibling to sibling. Already on the market I'm seeing it get saturated (as predicted) and already I'm seeing people trying to get a good price on animals that don't have those dark colors just because it's "half red monster"...that doesn't mean jack when those dark colors aren't there from a breeding standpoint especially.

    Much respect man. I couldn't have said it any better. Just like the spider ball python, that's one morph that shouldn't be bred or sold. So sad when people sees dollar signs and money over powers the love for the animal. Most breeders just don't care.

    That sucks. Many times when I see an absolutely gorgeous morph on a reptile, I have to take a step back and remember what it usually took to achieve that morph...usually years and yrs of inbreeding and a ton of health issues. 😕

      @williamwatson9781 Рік тому

      to be fair, if your doing line breeding right you should have a wild line that you mix in ever few generations to revitalize their gene pool. You loose a bit of progress but it helps in the long run to keep their instincts strong and in good health

    I adopted my beardie from Craigslist because I want to adopt an unwanted dragon rather than buy a designer one. I didn't think twice about his morph until I became friends with rescuers and learned about silf-backs, zeros, etc, that ended up so sickly that their owners dumped them. Now i worry if my beardie has any of the morphs that are prone to sickness. How can I tell what morph I have? Hes kinda a mix of greys with some orange, but no color is really strong. I just think he is a 'regular' beardie, but it would be good to know if i knew to look out for something specific healthwise.

Thank you for posting this, I was looking at this morph recently and thinking they were sooo beautiful, they are ofc, but thank you for informing me and others that they're inbred to hell, I now know if I ever do wanna get one of this morph, it will only be because they're a rescue.

    Exactly same with the zeros and such, we haven't had any new genes in the US since like the early 90s so any "cool morph" is terribly line-bred.

    I know this video is a year old but would a half or quarter red monster be less sickly and a safer buy? I know in your video mentions just a year or two of breeding them back into normal species.
    I’m asking because I’m about to buy a beardie in a few months and have seen a few half and quarter reds who still have the deep colors but am wary.

      As everything else goes the price will die down just like the zeros has. Until then it's just a train and it's normal for the demand and price to be high it won't last for long though as bearded dragons are easy to breed and the more people who has them the more that can be produced/ outcrossed.
