Making Fluffy Bannock
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 бер 2018
- The bannock recipe we are using comes from Connie and Lonnie of Far North Bushcraft & Survival. We're making two recipe changes: Adding 1 tsp of sugar, and adding more water. It's super easy and tastes yummy. You can change it up by adding different spices like Italian seasoning or pepper. The bannock is also good with toasted pine nuts or sunflower seeds. Fresh blueberries are also incredibly wonderful in it.
Far North Bushcraft & Survival - bannock video (the recipe is in their video description): • Primitive Cooking Stuf...
WOO's BANNOCK RECIPE
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons powdered milk
1 teaspoon sugar
hot water
Directions: Mix the dry ingredients. Add hot water to make a dough of the consistency you want. For the fluffy bannock we add water until the consistency is like a very thick batter (as seen in the video). Fry in butter over medium to medium-high heat until it is golden brown. Flip and cook until the second side is also golden brown. For this fluffier bannock, be sure to heat it long enough for the dough on the inside to cook throughout.

Sure enough looked mighty good. Thanks for the shout out. Connie and I really appreciate it. Enjoyed the video.
Thank you so much, Lonnie and Connie! That means the world to us. We LOVE your videos. We eat the bannock often and think of you two when we do. Connie makes it look so easy and neat. When I make the kneadable-dough version, I get flour everywhere. I need more practice. Thanks again.
Thanks for posting this - I watch Lonnie and Connie and greatly enjoy them. And this video too. Black pepper and italian seasonings are a great idea!
Aww. Thank you kindly, Cathy!
I love the blueberry idea! I think I'll make that.
Awesomeness.
That was a great looking breakfast! We add blackberries on occasion and have not yet regretted it.
Blackberries sound yummy!
I love warm Bannock, thank you so much.
Aww. You're welcome.
I used your recipe over a campfire in the high desert of New Mexico and it was Excellent . My mule Samson also likes your bannock recipe very much... with honey . Love your video and love the music . All the best to you and yours . Lefty
Aww. How adorable is this. Thank you.
Looks great! I?ll maje some in the morning. Thanks
Awesome!
Cornbread in a cast iron skillet is my favorite campfire bread. I like to add a bit of sugar to my bread recipes too!
Yum. Love cornbread... sweet cornbread. :)
Nice hot butter dance! You forgot one of the main ingredients, cast iron! Bannock always tastes better out of a cast iron pan. All kidding aside, I like to add some extra old cheddar in my bannock. Happy trails folks.
Cast iron rocks for sure! Yummmm. Cheddarrrrr.
Blueberries, dried cherries, also add a pack of Quaker maple oatmeal makes it delicious!!
Sounds so yummy.
With a side of lingonberry jam as well!
I need to learn to make this, looks really delicious
Awesome. Hope you enjoy.
Looked good.
It's tasty... and filling. 😁
Instead of bannock bread, try skillet corn bread. Mix 1/2 cup corn meal with 1/4 cup "Instant Pancake" mix (2:1 ratio). Add 1 spoon sugar and a pinch of salt. The instant pancake mix is a binder for the corn meal and allows it to rise. Then add enough water to form a thick batter just like your bannock bread. Cook it the same way in the skillet.
Thanks, Mike.
Bannock is not a flatbread, it is a baking powder quick bread. I've been making bannock for years in almost every variation.
Hmm. Well, that is logically correct. Thank you for the correction.
Awesome 👏🏻
Thank you kindly.
I bake biscuits on a cast iron skillet over the fire, flipping them halfway through.
Sounds good. Do you put a cover on the skillet during the baking?
Good tunes
Thank you.
This recipe is screaming for blueberries wild hucklberries, brown sugar and cinnamon, with walnuts mixed in the dough.
Ooooo, yes! That sounds amazing! I definitely want to try your version! Wild huckleberries are the bomb! I've made the dough with less water and rolled it out and made cinnamon rolls with it before, and that worked quite nicely too.
Great music
Thank you.
I've added cinnamon, brown sugar, and raisins before
Ooo! Sounds wonderful. Something we've tried along that same line is to use less water and roll out the dough. Then mix cinnamon, sugar and butter together and spread it on the dough. Roll up the dough and form it into a closed spiral. Flatten it out a little and cook it in a frypan. It makes a nice large cinnamon roll.
That’s the way I like it also
Sounds delicious, can’t wait to try!
Wonderful!
I used let oil and I was able to do one of those packcake flips instead of using a spatula. I tossed cheese and meat on top!
Go you.. Nice job on the pancake flip! The meat and cheese on top sounds yummy! We've used the bannock as a thick pizza crust and it has been pretty good like that too.
Bison burgers w/ bannock buns are the best
That sounds amazing!
I add a pinch of mustard powder and some grated cheese. Love my GSI Pinnacle frying pan.
Mmmm. Sounds yummy. Awesome. We're super pleased with ours too.
Here in Brazil, we also make this recipe.
That is so cool!
Im happy that i dont need to bye more bills thanks for showing.
You bet.
I subscribed;D
Thank you.
I am going to make some tomorrow with garlic powder.
Yum!
It would be really great if we knew how much of the different ingredients you used.
Since it's a recipe that we got from someone else, it seemed more repectful to link to the place where they posted it. The recipe is in the description of their video at this link ua-cam.com/video/mkU1SJ4dNV0/v-deo.html by Far North Buchcraft and Survival. That link is also in the description of our video.
If you put a lid on the pan would it cook faster or would it make any difference ???
Good question. It would probably cook faster with a lid on the pan. I do like a bit of crusty outside to the bread. If using a lid, the steam/condensation that forms on the inside of the lid and stays in the pan, may make the bread more soft than crunchy. That certainly isn't a bad thing - just different.
Thank You. Question? If I use all purpose flour do I still need to add baking powder and salt?
You're welcome. Yes, if you use all purpose flour you will need to add the baking powder and salt. All that's in the all-purpose flour is - flour. Happy bannock making.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors Thanks
Why don't you use any shortening in your mix? Most bannock recipes I've seen add it. Is it better without for some reason? Thx.
There's no purposeful reason for our not using shortening. The recipe we reference didn't include shortening, and we hadn't considered adding it... until now. 😁 Guess it's time to give that a go.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors Thx!
cute couple!
Awww. Thank you, Kat.
Looks lovely. could you add cheese to this? Thanks for sharing!
Sure. I bet some cheese would be good. Certainly worth a try. You're welcome and thanks for watching!
Oh that's great and thanks for your reply, Ill give it a go and let you know how it turned out. Thank again Trev over the pond in southern England!
"Trev across the pond": Looking forward to hearing how you like your cheesy bannock creation!
The only difference will be that I'm afraid we haven't got the beautiful back drop of mountains that you have ,,I'm so envious !
What do you use for the frying oil? Crisco? Butter? Lard?
I like to use butter. If mixing black pepper and Italian seasoning in the dough, I like to cook it in olive oil.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors sounds yummy! Thanks!
So it's kind of like a pancake?
The texture of it is more like a heavy bread. It doesn't have the more fine texture that a pancake does. It can definitely be mixed with less water. It seems many folks aren't liking the fact that I used so much water.
I add beer as well. Cut back on the water.
Sounds yummy and definitely will be giving it a go. 🍺
I am making this for Michaelmas
Nice.
Not to promote some other site but Ronny Dahl shows how to make what is called in Australia a "damper" or as he says "dampah". I want to try yours and his recipes.
Thanks for sharing, Robert. We like watching other channels too. We'll have to checkout Ronny's damper.
Nice video Cris, making me hungry here.
I too subscribe to Ronny's channel, and he sure does like to cook in his trail/trip videos.
He also has separate cooking videos too they make when on trips.
Thank you, Corey. Been checking out Ronny Dahl's channel. Like it! The damper (quick bread) does look good. We'll be giving it a go and trying it with different added bits too.
Try cutting the flour 50/50 with corn meal.
Yummmm. Then more like cornbread.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors Once I tried it with the cornmeal, I never went back.
That's the best kind of recommendation. Thank you.
1:35 where did he go?
😃 Too funny. Good question. Editing vanishing... At least he came back.
I use the same recipe, but without the toxic nonstick frypan that will stick eventually and needlessly fill the landfill.
🙄
basically its a pancake
Yep. A very fluffy one and even more filling (heavy).
Why would you make a cooking video and not show amount of each ingredient, not refer to someone else’s receipt
Th
We did both of those things. The recipe we used is in the video description, as is the link to the original recipe.
You need a cast iron pan for proper bannock I’ve found. Just sayin.
So true! Next time we cook bannock, it'll be in a cast iron skillet. Getting hungry already.
THAT ISNT "BANNOCK"
THAT'S MORE LIKE A PANCAKE TF
Not bannock
Looks blech
