- In The Realm Of The Protists
Beneath the waters surface, in a realm beyond the human eye, live the Protists. Spectacular in beauty, scope and grandeur playing out their microscopic dramas in seemingly unremarkable pools of water. Set to a little piece of music I created for the film.
Location: Fagan Park, Galston Australia
Music: 'Beneath The Willows' by AUDIOTHRILLSEEKER
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio for final video and audio editing and colour grading.

You can see protosoas with out a microscope.
That's correct. The larger ones certainly and the smaller ones if there is a mass of them or a bloom but most cannot be seen with the naked eye individually.
As an analogy, seeing them as specks with the naked eye is the equivalent of seeing a bird far off in the distance as a speck, impossible to see any detail, features or beauty, just a speck.
2:47 is that just one organism? And does its inside seem like mixed because of eat a lot of things?
It's one organism that has gorged itself on something large. Typically these ciliates fill themselves on the remains of larger creatures like worms etc. Judging by the contents, I believe this one has eaten from a dead a worm as there are a number of fatty inclusions.
These are some great shots! What microscope did you use to record them?
Thanks, good to hear. I use an iPhone 8 to record. Microscopes used are Olympus BHB's and a BH-2
@@protistlabfilms Unreal images - do you have an NIC condenser or something else at play? Stunning images - well done and thank you! I would appreciate learning more about how you capture these images!
@@MojoFilter No I don't have Nomarski in my tool kit. Polarised oblique illumination gives good contrast and resolution. I started using a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K at the beginning of this year.
@@MojoFilter Do you like the music I made?
@@protistlabfilms Absolutely married to the visuals.. I have a few of my own videos with supporting music and commentary too.. Such a joyful and mysterious hobby to have!
