"Learn every day" is key. In my experience, it is better to learn a language 10 min. a day every single day than just one hour a week. And 10 minutes is a lot easier to stick to, but most people don't feel like it is useful. I started doing this after reading the book "Atomic habits" and never looked back :D

I started this January 1st to try to ratchet up my rate of Italian acquisition....204 consecutive days of at least 30 minutes (sometimes up to 2 hours). While I have improved, I do not feel I have improved much.

Starting to put my technique in work (it's similar as BTM), try to learn a new things, for example how to cook certain food, but learn it in different language. And because you're learning it and trying to actually pick out useful knowledge, your grammar and skills in that language expands and you develop most important skill - understanding 100% each word. 2 shots with one bullet.

Excuse me for this harsh remark, stemming from my experience both as a langauge learner and teacher of 40/20 years: Translation sucks for most learners. They destroy an important, Id say indispensable step, described as "comprehensible input" by Krashen or, by others.

    • @LucaLampariello
      @LucaLampariello  5 місяців тому +1

Thanks for the comment! It all depends on how you do it. To me, translating is an essential tool to get a solid foundation of the language (it takes around 3 months). This facilities the acquisition of any language down the line. This approach is called "the Weak Interface Position" and it is an expansion of the Comprehensible input Hypothesis - look it up, It is quite interesting!

    Hello, Luca.
First of all, thank you for free content.
A question: as far as I understand you advocate for using your mother tounge in BTM. What do you think about using a foreign language instead? At the moment I'm learning Swedish and I find it more convenient to use English as the translation language. It's similar enough syntaxwise, but distinct enough to not be too much of a hint. Do you think it's a legit approach or am I missing on something?
After I reach ~B1 in Swedish I plan to take up Lithuanian. Do you think using Swedish as the translation language will help me consolidate my skill-knowledge, or, on the contrary, it will hinder my progress?
One benefit of using your mother tounge is preventing its deterioration. I don't mean only being unable to remember words from your L1 but also some syntactic distortions.
    Kind regards,
    Andrzej

      www.lucalampariello.com/services/

Hi Luca! I enjoy a lot your videos about learning new languages. I've been studing german and french for a while and I already reached my goals (more or less), but now I'm beginning with chinese and I'm struggling a little bit. Since you have told us your experience with other languages, would you mind to do the same with chinese and give us some of your superuseful tips? Thanks again for your videos!
